I spent some of my founders money on the highlander. A assault with JJ is great and the 30% cbill boost will help with the grind. Before that i was using my founders atlas a ton and I love the jagermech, but all the variants for each of those will be purchased with c bills. The rest of my founders mc will go to mech bays if they ever have a sale. I may purchase some MC when the game ends up on steam and they have a sale. I tend to keep about $100 in my steam wallet to pick up games on the cheap. I am not using my founders premium time or purchasing any other premium time until CW launches and maybe not until the end of summer when I have a lot of mechs to grind XP with to unlock master on every chassis that I like. There should be enough mechs out by then that I will want one or two chassis of every weight class and CW should hopefully help with the grinding since there will be a larger overall goal.

Two problems with hero pricing.Heavier mechs are too expensive.Lighter mechs are too cheap. You get the same cbill bonus and a unique skin regardless of weight.

What actual advantage do hero mechs give you?
1st) Custom paint job (for 1/20th the price you can buy a better camo pattern than a hero and look unique)
2nd) Cbill bonus (repair and rearm is out of the game, cbills are meaningless now)
3rd) Additional hard points (for most of the heros, short of the Ilya/X5, the hard points don't mean much)

There is no benefit to running hero mechs. If Piranha wants to make Heroes useful then:
1st) Small MC generation per match. The idea being that it would be impossible for a person to actually generate the MC Cost from the mech's use. However some MC would be generated, with Cbills being useless this at least is a way to generate something of use
2nd) Add in an extra module slot and always have that slot populated with the base (non-mc) version of a module.
3rd) Add in hard points that actually make the mech the best of the series

Simply put, hero mechs offer a unique camo pattern that everyone else in the game has. Hero mechs were good when R&R were in, but now they are absolutely horrible.

Everything you just wrote is pretty much nonsense because it is nothing more than you advocating for pay 2 win.

A hero mech gives you:
1. A unique camo/paint job. (Subjective value)
2. 30% Bonus to C-Bills (Not really subjective but some people are swimming in c-bills so it doesn't hold the same value for all)
3. A unique hard point layout. (This is what it is and might be good for some people and not so great for others)
4. Another way to support the game and have the all of the above in a chassy that you like.

What you suggest to make them useful is out right pay 2 win and would destroy this game. You may not feel justified in spending the money on the hero mechs and that is fine, but don't pretend the only way they have any value is if you make them your own pay 2 win giant stompy robot.

30-35 dollars! I could buy whole games with that.

LOL

For me it came down to this: I want that perma-CBill bonus, but there are no other Hero mechs that I want (Either I don't like the way they look, handle, or both). So I bit the bullet and bought it. I'm not seeing anything on the horizon that I would want more, so right now I'm not regretting it.

I do seriously hate that pink paint job. I am g-ay in real life, and that mech makes me want to kick my own a-ss. If it were not for the fact that changing-hero-mech colors is so close, I would not have bought the mech for that reason alone. That is one obnoxious color.

Please, sir, tell me what game I can buy for $30 that doesn't suck and has more than 40 hours of replayability?

I said this once in another thread about hero mech prices, but i'll say it again here.
I preordered (mind: preordered= bought it like 10 hours before the official release) Bioshock Infinite (which doesn't suck) and payed 37€. So what did i get for those 37€?

1) Bioshock Infinite
2) XCOM: Enemy Unkown
3) Bioshock 1
4) One more game to chose from: Darkness 2, Civilization V, Mafia 2 , Spec Ops: The Line, Bioshock 2.

I bought Borderlands 2 for 34 € just 1 day after the relase.
Only distribution services often have ridiculously cheap sales, even for brand new games.

I will NEVER buy a hero mech at the current prices. Not because i can't afford 30-40 bucks. A night out easily costs alot more. But i won't buy those hero mechs because i feel like i can get so much more for the money.
I can get tons of brilliant games (a little bit older ones) for 40€ on steamsale. They will easily keep me busy for over 100 hours.

Nope. As I said, 37€ for Bioshock + 3 other games (one of them being XCOM, which is also a recent release). 37€ are something like 46$. For 4 games, with one brand new release and a recent one. If you watch out for good opportunities you will almost never pay 65$ for a new game.

At least the Heavy Metal can actually do something. Not like they are charging $30 for the cockpit items or camo spec. Also, you don't have to buy it people.

You have to buy it if you want to play a Highlander right now. That also factored into my decision...I did not want to wait for the "official" release of the Highlander.

People can choose however they want to spend there entertainment dollars. I myself find most of the hero mechs a terrible waste of money. Ilya probably the best bang for your buck because of its load out. Think PGI would make more money if they did lower the prices to around 10-15$. I have spent around 120$ on this game so far and will spend more if it keeps improving. But I dont get mad at people who want to have the hero prices lowered. I support all free market practices and weather its not buying anything or buying overpriced goods.

Yet another "mech X is too expensive" thread..... really?

If you don't want it, can't afford it, or think it's over-priced... just don't buy it. Save us all from your incessant whining.

If you don't like the prices any conversation about it is whining and treasonous. You should not address point of concerns or offer suggestions, you should not speak if you do not spend and most importantly you should not look before you flush.

WoT's model is even more expensive. Several of their tanks cost around $50 and they seem to have no problems so I'm definitely not going to claim the hero mechs cost too much. Maybe boost the c-bills they gain up to 50%. Other than that the cost seems fine. It's not like you lose out on much if you can't afford them.

and if you had bought the hero mech you could have supported the game you obviously care enough for to come comment on how these mechs are expensive and to be fair you got bioshock infinate all that other trash dont really counts as AAA games anymore maybe xcom

anw be happy there are supporters out there not afraid to drop 100 bucks once in a while to keep you all playing

cheers.

edit: you could have downloaded bioshock and bought heavy metal just sayin

Couple things here, first off you're talking in both Euros and Dollars.
In the states, the best price you can generally get for a brand new game (with pre-order discount) is about $54, via steam.
The hero heavy metal costs $27 if you use the best MC to $ conversion, or around $31 if you're buying the $30 packs (it's only $28 if you buy the $50 packs instead).
Or based on US prices (where I live) it's about half the cost of a AAA game's pre-order. I generally have to wait around 6months or more for a AAA game's price to fall that much on Steam, sometimes much longer.

Not familiar with Euro costs of new games via Steam myself, but I imagine they'd follow a similar pattern. It's been a while since I lived in Europe.

What I generally get with my game purchases: some sort of pre-order bonus like a TF2 hat or an in-game item.
The game in question generally is good for ~20 hours of playtime, more for sandbox/RPG games like Skyrim.

The free XCom with Bioshock is an exceptional value right now.

Same, 10 bucks is at the extreme end of what I'd consider paying in any F2P. These are supposed to be Micro-Transactions, there's nothing micro about paying over half what a new AAA game costs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Rich

I Am Rich is an iOS application which was formerly distributed using the App Store. When launched, the screen only contains a glowing red gem, and an icon that when pressed, displays the following mantra in large text:

I am rich
I deserv [sic] it
I am good,
healthy &
successful

The application is described as "a work of art with no hidden function at all", with its only purpose being to show other people that they were able to afford it, making it a Veblen good. I Am Rich was sold on the App Store for 999.99 United States dollars, 799.99 euros, and 599.99 pounds sterling, the highest price Apple allows for App Store content. The application was removed from the App Store by Apple without explanation the day following its release, on August 6, 2008.
