Depending on the weight of the mech of your choosing, is the size of the jump jet that is appropriate.
Tell me, would you take the brakes off a semi-trailer and put them on your prius because you want to stop better?

a bigger jump jet is going to lift more, putting it on a small mech would give it much greater distance and height. If something can lift 100 tons 28 meters, it gonna lift 30 tons a hell of a lot higher. comparing brakes to jump jets is apples to oranges, the weight of the break system and pneumatic system would weigh more then the car. jump jest are not nearly so massive on a small mech.
The point really is why restrict jump jets and not other large items. A pair of ac/20's would rip apart a small mech firing it

Yes I would. Though trailers use air brakes.

At least the resulting loss of control might make a good Youtube video.

(I believe they are already indirectly breaking lore here, since in lore, the max jump distance is also limited by your engine size. I believe you cannot jump further than your walk speed would allow effectively. So if yo'd equip a lower-rated engine on your mech, your limit would be lower, and if you equip a higher-rated engine, your limit would be higher.)

While I can't answer the latter question, the thing is that light mechs can have more of their lighter jump jets (usually). For example there's one spider that can load up 12 of those small jump jets. That's how they get around not needing the much bigger jump jets, they just get more of the smaller ones. Except the Jenner, it has a max of 5 which just doesn't seem right should be more like 7.

It is just some stupid system that sounded like a good idea in the 80's when they dreamed all this up. Just add it to the list of other stupid ideas Btech should have outgrown, but CBT fanboyism keeps sticking in our faces.

Its not a matter of weight its that jump jets are slotted into the frame. So a class V would not fit into the port for a Class I. II, III, or IV and vice versa.

They are the same size 1 crit. Why would it not fit again? besides "reasons".

It just the way the game is. That's how they explain it. They also explain that jets are rated by tonnage vs lift so the jets from a Jenner would not lift a Highlander unless you put a ridiculous amount of them on the mech. They again explain that larger size jump jump jets even though they have the same slot count cannot be put on smaller mechs because physically based on their shape they are no compatible with the lower systems. It would require a complete redesign of the mechs internal structure. This is why the CTF-1X and 4X are different from the 3D and not just a simple swapping of weapon load outs.

so "reasons" got it.

Because PGI freaking hates you. Is that better troll?
don't get mad. I didn't make up the system, that uses completely arbitrary and absurd explanations why 1 crit JJs aren't mountable by all mechs capable of using JJs.
