Only the clans openly discouraged aiming for the cockpit, iirc

It's not my favorite tactic but if it's for all the marbles and it comes down to him or me and his mech is in better shape than mine and I get a chance, you better believe I'll take the shot and I expect others to do the same if the situation was reversed.

In Zellbrigen (I believe my spelling is correct) physical combat while piloting a 'mech is dishonorable, as it is directly trying to kill the pilot of the 'mech, not end the threat. Now, that being said in Clansman character, I will move on: who cares? scalp the enemies, that it may strike fear in to the rest of 'em.

Is this still considered "bad form?" I know it was frowned upon in the past because it's basically trying to kill the pilot as apposed to the mech and was seen as a "cheap shot" for many.

IMO, no!, it is not bad form. Same w/ legging, stripping a mech where it is a useless limping POS on the field, and DFA.

Well, the general consensus is that legging/cockpit shots are fair play. But what about self destructing your mech to take out an enemy team (Probably won't be in the game, but I can dream).

OH yeah I will headshot and I will do it more when the clan tech comes out. That or I will do my old tactic of shooting off all your meaningful weapons and leave you standing there.

I can see how aiming for the head would be a cheap shot in a game where you respawn alot but in a game where you have only one life and mission objectives it would behoove everyone to kill as effectively as you can. The second you try to follow rules while trying kill someone is second you die.

The only complaining I think we will see concerning head-shots will go along the lines of;

"we woulda won if all you noobs weren't aiming at their heads and missing all the time."

"***, one shot and my mech is already dead" (Except that is was one shot each from the entire other side)

"How did I get killed, I'm hiding behind this hill?" (That wasn't hiding his head)

I think the debs have covered this one in announcements, but according to what I've read, you can't kill the pilot, at least not the player. Also, since there is no salvage points or equipment, unlike earlier MW titles, there is no advantage to salvaging as much of the mech as possible. It earns you nothing special, so why do it? That's actually a pretty clever way to eliminate the "cheap shots". Just sayin'!

There's no salvage? So what's in it for us Mercs? Salvage was always on of the best rewards. A good leg shot would reap more $ than the contract or even a better mech if you took it down skillfully enough.

The phrase; "kill the meat save the metal". Was said by the trainer in one of the first missions in MW Mercenaries. Great game for it's day. I am sure this game MWO will put all the previous productions to shame.

I recall playing on the old Activision server and teams would enter the battles with an abundance of MG. The idea was to lag the opponent so much they would freeze and allowing other team mates to get easy kills. Another tactic I have seen was to leg opponents. Head shots are near impossible.

I have never been in a MMO where some people look for exploits and cheats to gain advantage over other players. I hope the devs and the community continues to frown on and discourage such things. Fair play for all is what I ask for. Happy hunting to all in MWO!

mw4 did it right. Leave cockpits like mw4 and everything will be fine. Same with legs.

The only player who had a problem with legging as a tactic, are those who didnt put armor on thier legs and died very quickly.

Yo homeboi ...... Never thought i'd meet a fellow Merc who didn't appreciate that a quick kill is its own reward :P
Some seem to be forgetting that in MWO you must repair your mech after each battle ........ think about it .....
I believe the obvious combat benefits of using sound tactics and actually choosing weak spots and vulnerabilities
to take aimed shots at will become abundantly clear once we've all been playing for a month or so.

In short quick low risk kills equals low damage to your own mech and subsequently ....... lower repair costs.
Its not rocket science.

i don't think it will be that easy to become a major concern. The cockpit isn't really that big compared to the rest of the mech and if someone manages to hit that spot on a moving target while he's moving himself than he derserves that quick kill. Or he was lucky which is just as good.

"the reason I shot him in the back is because I couldn't catch him asleep". I will be aiming for what I will consider the easiest way to kill a mech. Legs, cockpit, rear, or whatever.

Killing targets is not my concern. As a scout; ill go in, run behind the enemy, take a few shots at their heels, and get out so my Heavy/Assault buddies can clean up.
Sure I would rejoin the fight to get in a little more damage, but im a scout, not a tank or dpser.

Well if youre up for the challenge go for it... Both your mech and theirs are wobbling and there is a tiny target to hit. If you could make headshots reliably and down enemies quick, you would be hated by the enemy but your team would love you.
