So this months Champion mech is the custom Dragon 5N mech that was picked for the trail mech contest LMAO!! Really PGI? So you are going to have us do these community contests so the winning mech can then be called a Champion mech that only has a 5% XP boost and can only be bought with MC?

Um... LOL!!! Ill pass!! I can build the same mech with C-Bills and the 5% extra XP boost I can live without. Taking someone's custom mech build slapping a 5% XP boost on it and calling it a Champion mech is laughable!!

If this is your only way to come up with Champion mechs... I'm really worried lol.

(EDIT) I see now that its been confirmed that the XP boost has been uped to 10%.

While this makes it a bit better, and now doing the math... If you have Premium time activated... (keep in mind Premium time gives 50% C-bills and 50% XP)

Champion Mechs (are now) 10% XP boost (with Premium time = 60% XP and 50% C-bill boost

Founders Mechs (are at) 25% C-bill boost (with Premium time = 50% XP and 75% C-bill boost

Hero Mechs (are at) 30% C-bill boost (with Premium time = 50% XP and 80% C-bill boost

Now... i can see how a Champion mech used with Premium time and gaining that 60% XP would be nice... however, Isnt it known that a HERO is a tier up from a Champion? So with as much MC as we are dishing out for a HERO mech... shouldnt HERO mechs get at least a small 10% XP bonus to bring their XP boost (with Premium time) up to at least 60% to match the Champion?

Would buy for 50mc, that's about it.

I've not been playing long but the "sales" in this game are stupid - crap variants nobody wants. See last weekend assault mech sale.

PGI needs to take a page from planetside 2; daily half price sales on random items (or 2 if you are on premium time) and its half price mc AND c-bill.

If you buy the "champion mech" with real life money, you're a fool. It'll still cost you more MC to convert that whopping 5% extra xp locked on to one of the worst (least flexible) variants in the game. I can't believe anyone even buys regular mechs with Mc anyway, they don't even come with a free mech bay or custom paint...

The thing i think is funny is why not just come out and say "hey guys we have an idea on how to add in custom community created mechs that we want to call Champion mechs that will have a small XP boost." And come right out and explain how and why you want to add something like this. No... They go the trial mech rought... Have us vote on a winner and then use the new player base as a defining factor on if they like it or not to than say TADA! It's your Champion mech lol. Just skip the whole trial mech ploy and tell us what you're intending instead of sneaking it in like that lol.

And now even if new players liked it and wanted it because they got to use it as a trial mech, they can't use it anymore unless they buy it with real money? LMAO!!! Come on PGI... Stop it!

I suggested in that trial mech feedback to make it purchasable by c-bills for newbies.. it'll be expensive c-bills wise, but it would be a worthwhile mech to aim for when you're grinding for the first mech (or buy this exact build for MC).

They simply could have done better... but I wouldn't call this build suitable for a "Champion". It's like trying to build a 3L w/o 3 meds+2ssrm2s... why bother?

My understanding of how founders mechs work, is they use the same pilot tree, so the trees will likely be merged.

Secondly, my understanding is they had a great idea for a competition.
It went really well but PGI outright said "man guys, this took a LOT of time and effort on our part to compile results. This is cool, but it's not worth developer time."
So I suspect after they did all this, some guy said "hey, you know what might make this kind of thing worth our time in the future . . . ". So probably not an evil conspiracy.

Even if it was, so what? Would I have voted differently? Sure.
Am I hurt by it? No.

Back on the main point:

Would I buy it for MC for 5% exp boost when I prefer the 1C variant which can run similar weapons? Of course not.
Would I pay 2,000 MC for even a 1C variant with 5% more exp? No.
But will other people? I don't know.
If 2 of them sell, obviously, the rewards aren't worth it.
If 500 of them sell, PGI made a good money making decision.

Given how the coding works, I bet it took one guy very l ittle time to create Champion mechs (by create I mean add in code that says "if you play this mech, you get 5% more exp!", not the whole competition thing).
If they don't sell at all, they've delayed a feature I want by 1/2 a day at most, for nothing.
It won't hurt my game play at all. I can just not buy it.

IF they sell 10,000 of them, it won't hurt me at all, because I can buy an identical mech with C-Bills and just play 5% more games on mine.
But it will help me, because that's potentially $100,000 - the cost of a new chassis!

So why the *anger*?
It will be desirable, or it won't.
If it's not desirable, they'll increase the bonus or they will not introduce any more champion mechs.
Either way, it hurts no one.

And yeah, actually, when I started, I bought mechs with MC.
Why? Because I was willing to pay $30 bucks to support the game, And that got me 5 mechbays and 2 mechs.
So the day after I Finished my 25 games I had 3 different mechs I could play.
In contrast, I could have spent that money on one hero mech and nothing else.

IT could also depend on price point.
IF champion mechs are 1250 or lower, that's $8 to save myself 60 games.
That's 10 hours of my life.
Yeah, sometimes 10 hours of my life is worth $8.
(Why? Because maybe I have 10,000 exp on the trial mech and just want to play a dragon!)

In fact, here's a novel idea.
You said it is dumb to buy c-bill mechs with MC.
Let's say your right.
Let's say a mech costs 5 million cbills (2000 MC).
No one would pay MC if they're smart (according to you).
But let's say for 2000 MC I get the same mech AND a 5% exp bonus.
Now suddenly, it is looking a lot more tempting because the eXP bonus is a free perq for spending MC. In other words, suddenly there's at least a small reason to buy these variants with MC.

Best of all, it's not pay to win at all! Not even *potentially* P2W like hero mechs could be if they accidentally introduced one that was the best in chassis. The more money PGI makes on things like that, the better this game will be for all of us.

I'm just saying, why the hostility, man? Take a chill pill and relax!

So don't buy it.
I know I won't.

If it doesn't sell, they won't do it again. That simple.

The highlander thing is probably a type-o.
The 732C is a fan made variant and has hardpoints remarkably similar to the Heavy Metal.

The champion mech is them testing something new, I have no issues with that PGI testing new stuff.

I don't know why people complain about optional features that don't change anything about the game. Relax dude. Don't buy it.

For me, the idea of the community being allowed to participate in designing some content (even in a small way) Is awesome. So what if you're not interested in this particular content. The principal of the thing ROCKS. I will probably buy the mech just to encourage PGI to do more of the same.

oh man do I hope your right! If so... Whoever is in charge of proof reading this stuff before it goes out needs to double check for these small errors that end up big issues on the forums lol

See, I fear if they do not have an AC20 Highlander option... there will be holy hell here in 12+ hours from now.
