You must mean the 3PPC+Gauss Highlander. ;)

Yeah, something like that.

I just wish PGI would use limited hardpoints to "shape" many mechs into their desired roles and / or into the desired MechWarrior background.

We needed hardpoints with limits, like only one or two crits, so that people are not going all ppc "Needed"? That's right, because it's probably already too late for any change. Imagine the outcry.

We needed this when they made the game. But I guess they thought with a more liberal approach to hardpoints they could attract more people. And they were probably right. Problem is that, in my oppionion, this is getting farther and farther away from the MechWarrior we know from the books and from the singleplayer games we played and loved.

Not to blame them as they are a company and have to work on profit but by tweaking here and there that much to attract numerous players we will end up with the solely unique element being "It has Mechs.". I am not that of a core player but we are going exactly there where MechWarrior 4: Mercs´s fun has found it's end. Its just pop-tarting at its best with the new highlander and the chees-alpha-strike builds. Same as MW 4: Mercs was. I am not exactly sure if I should be angry or not. PGI needs players and the core-group is not able to provide the numbers necessary to keep it alive. I most certainly know that what we encounter in these forums is just the tip of the iceberg and a huge number - at least I hope there is - of players is enjoying this game very well.

But that development more and more makes me assume that we are dealing with a rather short-living project here. Well... "short-lived" obviously still could be 3 years or so after its release but with the obvious decline in playerbase after not even half of the time.

Theoretically this game and its background universe have highly complex mechanics but that is maybe not the thing that attracts a huge playerbase. I know this is getting old but I see World of Tanks as one of its biggest competitors but I cannot quite get the feeling of similar stories of success. Mechs are cool for most but not necessarily cooler then tanks. And there is not that much of that cheesebuild-trouble in WoT as a WWII-tank only has one gun barrel.

poptarts are nothing special, just the latest in a line of min/max builds, and no matter what you do min/max builds will always be the way this game is played, unless the developers change the game mechanics. Increase heat across the board? small laser boats, Guass cats etc will all come back. most of the suggestions dont resolve the issue.

The easiest thing to do is to simply introduce a 2nd que, for people who want to play under a specific ruleset. That solves the problem of min/maxing for those who do not want to keep up with the arms race.

And didn't we all laugh about the thought of a 90t poptard? Who would want that? And how could this even work, a big target like that?

Well...I just had a few couple games after the patch and I gotta say I'm almost at the point of throwing this game off the pc.

Boats, for the most part. Large lasers and ppcs everywhere. And the former joke, the Highlander with 2 ERPPC and 1 Gauss as a poptard among them.

This game has now officially become a parody of the name "MechWarrior". My personal thanks goes to all those who actively worked to ruin this game for the old fans, those who liked the books and the older games. You are the best!
.

I've played TT since the 80's and am reading the entire series from scratch right now. I'm the definition of an old fan. And I think your tears are completely over done.

Adapt or die (which in this case would be die out from the game.....). If it's truly that bad for you, find a new game that will offend your delicate sensibilities less and result in less snarky posts. But you don't speak for the "old guard" any more than I do. Some of us think MWO is coming along quite nicely.

They aren't done fixing missiles yet, fixing any number of things and yet you frame your complaints as if this is PGI's envisioning of the final version of the game. You're several months too early for that. But given your impatience and lack of understanding of what the game is trying to get to, yes, you should undoubtedly move on.

More people will be playing in the future, especially once the game goes live. Every MMO gains and loses players, this is no different. And one less myopic naysayer is probably better for the community. Constructive criticism is one thing, hyperbolic tears are another. The latter aren't conducive to community, unless you mean "toxic community."

Spoken like a poptard who doesn't want to lose his easymode.
Sorry, but the statement is valid. What good IS a community game if it has no community? Being that this is an open beta, I can not see hundreds of thousands of people flocking to this game once it leaves open beta and "officially Launches", especially when they can try it now.

His statement was vastly more constructive than your bashing of fellow community members.

Just saying

Snipers are the rock to LRM's scissors. Not the other way around.

Shooting without LOS>shooting with LOS

You ran with the wrong kind of LRM boats.

Many manly tears were shed by many a poptard after the LRM rain came over them. Now they do not even laugh about the rain, they do not even notice it, at all.

Play light mechs, nom poptards.

Just so ya know, light mechs are basically free kills right now, if you have anything approaching good aim.

Lights cannot stand up to repeated shots from mechs with a 40+ alpha strike.

Make Jumpjets more "realistic". They're too smooth going up and you float going down. A 90ton mech with JJs should be shaking like a mexican space shuttle. Boom. no more precision poptarts.
