Yeah, something like that.
I just wish PGI would use limited hardpoints to "shape" many mechs into their desired roles and / or into the desired MechWarrior background.
We needed hardpoints with limits, like only one or two crits, so that people are not going all ppc "Needed"? That's right, because it's probably already too late for any change. Imagine the outcry.
We needed this when they made the game. But I guess they thought with a more liberal approach to hardpoints they could attract more people. And they were probably right. Problem is that, in my oppionion, this is getting farther and farther away from the MechWarrior we know from the books and from the singleplayer games we played and loved.
Not to blame them as they are a company and have to work on profit but by tweaking here and there that much to attract numerous players we will end up with the solely unique element being "It has Mechs.". I am not that of a core player but we are going exactly there where MechWarrior 4: Mercs´s fun has found it's end. Its just pop-tarting at its best with the new highlander and the chees-alpha-strike builds. Same as MW 4: Mercs was. I am not exactly sure if I should be angry or not. PGI needs players and the core-group is not able to provide the numbers necessary to keep it alive. I most certainly know that what we encounter in these forums is just the tip of the iceberg and a huge number - at least I hope there is - of players is enjoying this game very well.
But that development more and more makes me assume that we are dealing with a rather short-living project here. Well... "short-lived" obviously still could be 3 years or so after its release but with the obvious decline in playerbase after not even half of the time.
Theoretically this game and its background universe have highly complex mechanics but that is maybe not the thing that attracts a huge playerbase. I know this is getting old but I see World of Tanks as one of its biggest competitors but I cannot quite get the feeling of similar stories of success. Mechs are cool for most but not necessarily cooler then tanks. And there is not that much of that cheesebuild-trouble in WoT as a WWII-tank only has one gun barrel.
