Clans as PVE environment

I really do not think this will happen but it would be great to see a mass online game make a strong PVP and PVE environment that can overlap on each other, in play and in story line.

I was talking about clan and prototype modules , ECM's and weapons That you can mount in your IS mechs. You would be able to use them in PVP just the Clan mech chassis would not be available for players.

-Fighting Mechs that can carry almost twice your damage per ton in weaponry and move as fast or faster than you with better targeting and armor might be considered "cheating"
-The battles could even be "judged" by Devs to determine who gets "captured" to become some of our first clan(freebirth) warriors even...While others could earn enough parts to either modify to clan tech or perhaps capture a depot or some such.

I agree. I don't want to see the Clans run by AI. I want them to be playable. I truly, sincerely want some of the most bad-*** players to be Clanners so that the sight of them on the battlefield makes your heart skip a beat.

The problem I have with this is skilled players that are already better then the masses will be the guys earning these when they first come out. Then you have a Superior player in a superior mech so 1 of them can take a heard of regular guys no problem. This will drastically unbalance the game. I guess they could make it you can only drive a clan mech if you have a 25 percent or worse win rate. Then you could use one to compete with skilled players even though you are horrible at the game.

Except for the skilled players still in the IS. I don't want the game to be "balanced". I want it to be MechWarrior.

Cry some more. Clan weaponry isn't insermountable, and I have heard people talk about "intelligent AI" in video games since the mid 90's, and it always turns out to be the same old stupid program that I figure out how to manipulate inside of 20 minutes.
Besides that, the last thing I'd ever want to see is people grinding missions with clans in order to "gear up" for fights with other players. Christ, If I wanted that I'd be lined up for guild wars or still playing warcraft.

If more skilled players decide they want to play Clans, hopefully there will be something to make it challenging for those players without allowing either side to steamroll the other - something like having Clanners normally be outnumbered in combat. The exact numbers would have to be considered carefully, of course, but it should be possible to get a rough estimate of what would make a fair fight...
Of course, I half expect the first few appearances of the Clans to not be a fair fight, just to match the existing canon. It would definitely help set up some in game hostility between the factions, as we've already seen with the people saying that Clan players just want the better tech to cover for their skill, but it could also discourage those of us who choose to stay with the IS, since it would be stacking the odds against us heavily at that point. It would still beat sticking to canon and losing worlds to the Clan by fiat, though. At least with stacked odds, there's still a chance, albeit a slim one.

I'm of the mind that 2 stars against a company is a pretty good match up as long as you get a good mix of mechs on both sides.
I think one of the things that posters are forgetting, is that the inner sphere's forces (though technologically inferior) have a better grasp of team work then the clans; Things like recon, indirect fire and other sorts of shenanigans are fairly unknown to them and could be used against them.
In essence: fight smarter not harder.

Furthermore, stop claiming things are unbalanced in a game you've never played. Clan mechs aren't even in the closed beta yet.

That might have something to do with the mewling and whining that goes on about how OP the clans are when the truth is that there tech isn't THAT much more powerful. To hear people talk about them You'd think it was the equivelant of an AC-130 being pitted against a roman legion.
If the Devs are indeed serious about maintaining a comparable timeline to that of the setting then the clan invasion is going to happen and they will most likely go on a rampage through the IS players until they figure out what there advantages are over the clans (and yes, the clans have weaknesses).

Problem is the Clan weakness was always solo fighting without good team tactics. There is nothing i can think of that will keep players with access to clan tech from using team speak or some other form of communication to maximize their strengths while mitigating their weakness.
So saying "Clans have a weakness" which in the cannon they do, but doesnt carry over to the game is pointless.

I'd be willing to bet my left nut that the clans currency system is going to be based heavily off of Zell, so players engaging in mob mentality may win lots of fights but will have serious problems getting the parts and equipment for their mechs (to say nothing of NEW mechs) in comparison to those who do.
Further, as a clan player, I'd be fine with the developers disabling certain options for clan players that are counter intuitive to Zellbrigen (like indirect fire), giving a numbers advantage to IS pilots...
