A Total Lack Of Battletech Fluff In-Game.

People who join have no idea who the factions are or why they should care; they just see robots dropping on planets over and over. They don't even know what the Inner Sphere is, or that they're in it.
So yeah. For UI 2.0, please consider at the least hiring a flash guy to round up some approved BattleTech fluff, lore, etc. (a timeline would be nice!) and get that into the game somehow.
Long before I had any idea what BattleTech was, I got drawn in to the universe by all of this stuff included with an old RPG, Cresent Hawks Inception. They included fluff about all of the factions and timeline with it and it made me really interested to know more; and the more people know about the source material, the longer they're likely to give MW:O a shot.
Lots of old games had cool stuff like this too (X-Wing and even MW2 spring to mind) and it really needs to be a corrected oversight going forwards into Community Warfare, especially.

I totally agree with this...but I think they need to get the game itself polished before they worry about the fluff. And there is still a bit of work to do on that front.

This arguement shouldn't be used every single time someone suggests a nice addition.
Including a big button and an encyclopedia is a week work at max for one competent flash developer, especially since most of the material can be copy pasted.

MC2 opened my eyes. and a built in lore section (or even an expanded section here on the site) would draw more people in.
(i should also note that i was too young to read or care about anything in MW2 when i played it. just shoot the lasers!)

I'm really hoping CW will take care of this.

The biggest difference is that most online games aren't a property that's held a loyal following since 1984 (Going on 29 years!)

At this moment the factions are just minimal described on the website, and some minor background about the universe is listed. New players will not get pulled into universe, but will just see stompy shooting robots.
Hopefully they will expand the descriptions and backgrounds with videos / pictures / interactive maps (website and ingame)

Then maybe putting this idea (which I like) in the SUGGESTIONS forum would be a good place to start?

Indeed, Victor could you send a request to a mod to move this thread to the Suggestions forum? The Devs read that more often than GD.
