This is directed primarily towards the newbies, and people joining us that have no idea what BattleTech is: It's outright criminal there's no Encyclopedia or the like built into the UI. With UI 2.0 around the corner, I can't stress how good an idea it would be to put something like this into the game.

People who join have no idea who the factions are or why they should care; they just see robots dropping on planets over and over. They don't even know what the Inner Sphere is, or that they're in it.

So yeah. For UI 2.0, please consider at the least hiring a flash guy to round up some approved BattleTech fluff, lore, etc. (a timeline would be nice!) and get that into the game somehow.

Long before I had any idea what BattleTech was, I got drawn in to the universe by all of this stuff included with an old RPG, Cresent Hawks Inception. They included fluff about all of the factions and timeline with it and it made me really interested to know more; and the more people know about the source material, the longer they're likely to give MW:O a shot.

Lots of old games had cool stuff like this too (X-Wing and even MW2 spring to mind) and it really needs to be a corrected oversight going forwards into Community Warfare, especially.

I totally agree with this...but I think they need to get the game itself polished before they worry about the fluff. And there is still a bit of work to do on that front.

Great idea, this is something that should be included.

This arguement shouldn't be used every single time someone suggests a nice addition.
Including a big button and an encyclopedia is a week work at max for one competent flash developer, especially since most of the material can be copy pasted.

even mech commander2 had such a feature. infact, that was the game that made me realize that MW2/-mercs/MW3/MW4/MC and MC2 were in fact connected in the "battle tech" thing. before that i always wondered why each game was so drastically different, with such different mechs, factions stories and such.

MC2 opened my eyes. and a built in lore section (or even an expanded section here on the site) would draw more people in.

(i should also note that i was too young to read or care about anything in MW2 when i played it. just shoot the lasers!)

Not saying it wouldn't be awesome to have something like this, but online games almost never do. Besides that, there is always Google.

I'm concerned about an overall lack of immersion in the BT universe.

I'm really hoping CW will take care of this.

Yes. This is what MechWarrior has that other games do not. It what keeps it interesting longer. Hell, it's given a basic sandbox 9 solid months of playability. I agree, it's not urgent, but I'd really like to see this in time for launch.

The biggest difference is that most online games aren't a property that's held a loyal following since 1984 (Going on 29 years!)

Yeah, hopefully Community Warfare will bring some more fluff to the game.

At this moment the factions are just minimal described on the website, and some minor background about the universe is listed. New players will not get pulled into universe, but will just see stompy shooting robots.

Hopefully they will expand the descriptions and backgrounds with videos / pictures / interactive maps (website and ingame)

Then maybe putting this idea (which I like) in the SUGGESTIONS forum would be a good place to start?

Yes! I love all the back stories and important characters in the Battetech universe. Would like to see it more expanded somewhere on here or in game.

Indeed, Victor could you send a request to a mod to move this thread to the Suggestions forum? The Devs read that more often than GD.
