No they haven't. If all mechs now were omnis you could slap ANY weapon from ANY type into ANY slot.

That doesn't sound very omni at all. That sounds bi or tri.

Heck, I wouldn't care if Clan weaponry was available to all mechs in order to keep balance and keep IS mechs useful. If Clan equipment is available to all, that takes a lot of the balance challenge out of the way.
Either way, just being able to own and level and customize and pilot the Clan mechs would be enough fun all its own.

If I drop with my omnimech and get river city then I can use my close range Varient A, where as if I drop on Alpine I can grab my long range Varient B.
[sarcasm]Thats not borderline overpowered in the slightest[/sarcasm] but it would certainly be in character for omnitech.

Have "Pod space" instead of hardpoints, where specific critical slots are the only ones you can fill with weapons, but have no type limitations (space limitations rather than type and numeric limitations),
Have hardpoints of blank type, permitting the use of all three families of weapon within those slots.
have loadouts that functionally work the same way, but allow "saved" loadouts from owned components to be hotswapped before a match.
Have no limitations whatsoever, as in MW2 and MW3.
In any case, unless the function of Omni is actually pretty advantageous they probably won't include the downside of omni either- nonswappable engines and static armor values.

omni mechs are kind of dumb. and ruin the uniqueness of any mech. since other mechs of similar weight can mount the same things.
i definately would not mind if MWO found some way to keep them distinct by somehow limiting how omni it is.

I never knew that Hawken had the Clans and IS.

so you want this game to be generic robot fps like hawkin? i think you miss the point. only omnimechs can switch weapons at will. non omnimechs have to go through great expense/time/ and maybe trip to a mech factory to switch weapons from their default. that is why there are variants of every mech to begin with, because you cant just switch weapons at will on them.

It doesn't (only requires you to have the other weapon pod at hand), but omni comes with its own restrictions (can't change engines for example).

yes i know, my point was that non omnimechs cant just change weapons at will because its supposed to take a refit kit, time, lot of money, and depending on weapon swap a mech factory to change weapons.

Um... what?
There's kinda a major disconnect between wanting everything to be equally viable, and creating a generic robot fps. He doesn't even specifically say clan 'mechs need less power, just that there still be a reason to field IS tech. IS getting a numerical advantage is one option. IS getting a greater reward is another.
You're getting too caught up in the specifics here- just because the function of Omni battlemechs will be different in this title doesn't make it a lesser game. Hell, every mechwarrior title thus far has included this much if not more customization on every type of battlemech.
While I applaud the idea of seeking to capture the flavor of the clans, keeping their machines distinct, extraordinary levels of customization compared to other titles has always been a big draw of the mechwarrior brand. Even back when hawken's machines were at their most customizable, they still had nothing in comparison to the currently available mechlab. Insisting that current designs should be limited into obsolescence "because the canon says so" might make the game more in line with the established canon, but it would also be a blow that would both make the game itself less enjoyable, and make the game less distinctly mechwarrior, as well. This is a BT based game, not a BT translation.

other than the mech names this game is really nothing like mechwarrior. maybe some of us would like a real mechwarrior game at some point. i am gettin sick of these generic robot shooters with the mechwarrior name slapped on them.
