IDK. i mean, i really HATE those feet and legs...so if FD could redesign the entire thing (while still making it recognisable as a Marauder) in MWO Fashion, then i would definetly check it out...

my first "real" exposure to the marauder was when i was readin "decision at thunder rift", ever since then ive really enjoyed lookin at the pics of the standard 75 ton and the massive 100 ton marauder II, the design is just so interesting to me, as it looks like it shouldnt even be able to stand with soo much forward weight....

If they redesign it just go back to the oringnal 3025 and give it the design flaws mention in the fluff and I would be happy. The autocannon linkage issue and the exposed waist linkage and then redesign away!! :)

personally I never understood the facination with the marauder. Most of my BRT friends loved it. I was always partial to the Archer. To me the Warhammer is the iconic mech. I just love the archer look, it is like I'm gonna pelt you from afar and then I'm gonna smack you with my poppeye arms.

The Marauder has always been a favorite of mine. both the heavy and later clan assault models. A favorite variant of mine has always been to lose the ac/5 in favor of more lasers and heatsinks and jj's if possible.

Honestly, while I like the unseen mechs, having loved robotech/macross it always seemed strange to see them in BT. The first time I saw them in the board game boxed set it was 'what the hell, those are valkyries/veritechs, destroids, and a zentraedi officer pod.' I do think the artwork on them are good though, but I actually like alot of the reseen designs. Considering what the staff on MWO have done so far, I would love to see their own unique take on those designs so we could get them in game without having to deal with the Harmony Gold gestapo.

And on that topic, while the Wasp, Stinger, Phoenix Hawk, Crusader, Archer, Warhammer, Rifleman, Longbow, and Marauder were designs taken from Macross, how did the Locust, Griffin, Shadow Hawk, Wolverine, Scorpion, Goliath, and Battlemaster get on that list. None of that second group were in macross or the other two segments of Harmony Gold's Robotech, they were from a different anime entirely, so how did they get the axe in the HG gestapo legal ninjitsu?

I'm pretty certain that the latter ones are part of the so called Reseen crop.

And yes, Harmony gold is nothing but a bunch of vultures.

Well I'm almost sure that 95% people loves the marauder because of the twin-PPC configuration, which allowed them to finally kill their first heavy mech when playing TableTop... (Honestly, with twin-PPCs even a monkey can roll dices and get a kill).

Since this is the mech they got their very first 'serious' kill, it enarned a special niche in people's heart. Pretty much like losing the virginity, everyone remembers their first time.

This also exactly applies to the Warhammer. (Half of the veterans got their first serious kill on a marauder and the other half on a Warhammer).

This also explains why, for example, nobody has special hype for the 'Crusader', also one of the contemporaneous unseen classic battlemechs. With a weapon's payload based on a mix of random-location hitting missiles, it was practically impossible to get a killing shot on an enemy mech. At most, the crusader usually chipped away the enemy's armor, just enough for the Warhammer/Marauder to step in and get their first kill-shot, thus, warming the heart of another new battletech player.

It's several factors, to me.

First, having seen it MOVING in Macross cartoons gives the Marauder an edge over almost all other designs (it's the same reason for Warhammer is as much popular, I think).
Second: it's design is ALIEN! It looks like nothing ever seen and it is frightening! Its miniature was HUGE (I had the metal Zentraedi Officer pod miniature and it was heavier than an Atlas') and the overall look was menacing.
Third: the mech itself had a several flaws (too much heat for a mech with ammunitions, minimum range problems with all main guns, questionable weapon choice: an AC/5 whe you have already 2 PCCs?) but also some winning points (amazing CT armor and overall max armor, hard hitting at long range, a decent heat rotation firing sequence [2 ppcs -> 1 ppc and AC/5])

All in all, I can say that easthetics make 90% of it (but they are personal tastes. I hate 90% of all clan mechs, Madcat included)

The aesthetics of the Marauder are appealing to me more so than the "humanoid" mechs. There's a raptor-like vibe that seems more primal and vicious than an upright-walking "robot-man."

I'm a huge fan of the Locust as well and would love to see this older mech in the game.

This mech's sleek and predatory appeal make it one of my favorites:

I think the direction MW4 had in the mektek version as a good one, if not quite there.
I suppose we can expect it to have slightly smaller legs, probably bulkier in the top section, and a torso looking slightly beefier, with he dorsal gun closer to said torso.

When looking at the common images of the classic MAD, I just find it ugly in any conceivable way; Like the Annihilator, honestly, which looks like a rubber godzilla. Yeah, sue me.

The performance of this mech is probably decent, by the time of the invasion we can expect the 5S, which has a pretty heavy long range pay load. The L will take a decade to arrive.

The warhammer, archer, and rifleman were Robotech also if i remember right. As well as a few more iconic mechs.

Of all the classic mechs, the MAD was not my most favorite look. Pride of place goes to the medium trifecta: Shadow Hawk, Griffon, Wolverine. Given a choice, I'd run those over everything except possibly the Thunderbolt. As far as punch goes? I'd take a Warhammer. Marauders just didn't look like part of the design aesthetic of the other bulky humanoid walkers. I always like running them as a lone wolf mech, or as a hated commander unit rather than something that was part of my own forces.

I think everyone loves it because it's a robotech battlemech. I wonder if Piranha even has the rights to all the original co-oped robotech designs. probably not. so i wouldn't worry about the Marauder ever showing up in MWO

Yes, because humanoid mechs don't have goofy-looking legs or anything...

Posted Image

It basically comes down to whether or not you like your mechs to look more animal-like or more human-like. Either way there will be aspects of both styles that will not appeal to people; Neither are better or worse. It's a preference. I prefer mechs that look less human like because I don't like humanoid robots.
