Yeah it should be a good thing if people will stop naming their Unit with a Clan Prefix/Suffix,

but alas, probably everone can go name their merc corp just the way they like it, because PGI also allows to use canon character names as accountnames.

A lot of the online gamers are used to the word Clan, so they will keep using it, and also in the end it is not a real big deal, because the name of the units will not change the gameplay or whatsoever.

It is only annoying to us Battletech lore fans..

They won't. Because dem kids think it's cool to have a name associated with something hype. That's why WoW, and other online games get a myriad of guilds with names like Gods of War, or Assassin's Creed, or other bad Engrish names like Templars of Dark, because kids think it's cool. And that's why bronies made a mockery of one of SLDF's most distinguished units.

I have no doubts that there will be merc corps like that, but those will be merc corps, not BT Clans. Posting in the "Factions Clans" section implies that unit is associated with one of BT Clans though.

And for those units whos threads were moved to the Clan sub forums with no consultation by forum staff...your going to stomp your feet in their threads?

Maybe...if I am sufficiently bored to do so. ;)

I do not feel this should be allowed. I do not know of any instance in this era were a Clan hired a Merc unit.

It's not a matter of being allowed, it's a matter of Clan-Backed Mercenary Units being part of Canon.

As long as you remove the plural from that statement.

I think he means "Clan-backed" as in "actual merc unit hired by a Clan", as opposed to "actual Clan unit, masquerading as a merc unit".

Only cannonical pilot names to... I can't have my immersion ruined, LARP WITH ME... THIS IS BATTLETECH!!... nerds...

We mostly named it that way cuz we didnt want to be the 3rd clan wolf... Depending on what CW contains we will either register as our OWN BLASPHAMEY! clan or attach to a cannon clan as a unit...

Unit, Clan, Merc corp... I'll still be the guy standing over your smoldering mech....woo I rp'd a bit there myself... THIS IS FUN...

PGI stated that they reserve canon clan names for PGI controlled use.

If PGI interprets that as the word "clan" is for PGI controlled use, they can force anyone they want to rename themselves.

I'm not advocating for or against usage of the "clan" moniker, I'm just highlighting that this is PGI's playground, not ours.

Hey, you want to be a unit within one of the existing clan, such as one of the PGCs- go ahead. But this is still a Battletech game, and in Battletech, the word "clan" refers to one of Kerensky's clans.

And the major battles ate set in stone - Tukayyid, Coventry, hell - even Sommerset if you're willing to go there. But there are many small battles to be fought, for whateber gains.

But walkimg in and going "hey, look, we're a clan" - sorry mate - you're not.

And if there's any doubt, wait until CW rolls along - we'll see if there's an option to join Clan Ice Dragon, or not.

This, uh... Yeah... I'm too not fond of people pulling new clans out of their arses.

Can't really say why. Just doesn't sit right.

In the Lore? Two. Unless you mean the wannabees, who call their game unit "Clan Wolf", rather than choosing a specific unit within the clan structure.

I'm assuming you mean player-made. I don't really know, as I'm not in any of them. I'm not sure how that relates though, seeing as how they're based on an existing clan.

You guys are seriously offended because a few guys want to name their group of imaginary robot driving dudes a "clan" and it doesn't jive with the 'approved' list of group of imaginary robot driving dudes?

Get a life.

Are we not allowed to support and follow the lore of something we all enjoy to it's fullest outside of our day jobs?

A lot of us have waited a long time to all be a part of the Clans again and immerse ourselves in the BT world. Forgive us for not being so arbitrary and actually trying to get some genuine enjoyment out of all this.
