Well it's both picture and text. I fitted Medium Laser and Single Heat Sink portraits into single slots, but I think to make them actually work, they'd just have to increase the width of the slots a bit, and maybe have them cross the "boundaries" of the slots a bit. If they're slanted like they're already portrayed, having them cross boundaries would fit in well, I think. But yeah, I'm definitely with you on the color coding.

I've made a mock up of my own to illustrate something that i've been thinking about for a while now.
The boxes require some meat to them, and some kind of visual to separate one from the other. You are relying way too much on text for this area, and sums up to look very busy and the text blends together... and it's abundance is kind of over whelming. =\
Picture inside:
- It would help with some readability to include icons in the boxes (see the modules, equipment, and consumable boxes in the above image). It helps define the edges of the boxes. I'm a visual person. I think that way and learn that way, and those images in the corner of the boxes are literally cues for me to see what is grouped together. It brings the contents together, if you will.
- The graphic addition for the woodland camo lets people see woodland, instead of read woodland. It's a big thing for me to see the camo, and it's great when I can do as little reading as possible, but just so I'm clear, I'm not meaning to get rid of the word, just would like a graphical addition. I took a quick screen shot off my hunchback and overlayed it in that particular image. I doubt this is possible - but it would be one step up if it also shows the correct colours too.
Thanks for listening! I hope it spurs some more inspiration or motivation or encouragement to use more graphical cues around your UI where it could help. Maybe some images for the arms, torsos, legs, etc? Mech specific as well? Who knows! You guys are great and thanks again for listening.
[Edit] Please also see Suprentus' post regarding weapon visuals. Just seeing the weapons in their spots really adds A LOT for me. With your guys' touch it would look really really awesome.

I'd go so far as to say that just being able to see their mech is actually "worthless" from a more organised drop perspective.
Mouse over to see weapons and top speed?
Its possible they could maybe add a mouse over ?
So say you mouse over one of the players mechs in the dropship UI thing and hold down a modifier. Say ALT.
It then shows up their weapons loadout and positions on a simple little paperdoll looking mech thing if you get me ?
Or maybe a tickbox or option at the bottom of the dropship UI that lets you switch the view from seeing a picture of their mechs, to seeing their loadouts instead.
It would be a neat feature for sure, and yeah, needed for seeing people loadouts. Although for comp matches you would expect everyone already knows what to bring / what their role is before actually grouping and hitting launch. (private TS / vent etc)
It would still be great for pug groups however and the less formal groups, and just something neat to have.

I doubt they would let players save configs locally since that invites more opportunites to hack the game. They could let you saver configs on your server profile. It would have the same function but be alot less hackable.

Then, when you get home, you log into the game and the config is waiting for you when you go to edit your mech. All you need to do make sure you got the c-bills for it and then apply it. Boom, and away you go into the testing grounds.
Heck, make it super awesome and add a share function even. Where you can send your load out to a friend or fellow forumer. Looking for a Hunchbac-4SP loadout? You get sent 10 different configs that you can apply, test, keep, save, delete, remove, change, or edit. Have a toggle that allows you to allow or decline config sharing to your account. Cripes, the only thing that needs to be worked out is interface and infrastructure. Or not, since they're looking to bringing the game to Steam they could just instead use Steam Workshop as the server to host various mech configs.

Basically, a new button called “SCHEMATICS” will display the orthographic projection of the selected BattleMech. This is complete fluff, but should be added as Alex did such a phenomenal job! It's the little things that make it great.

I know it's a UI 2.0 Feedback, not about the mechanics of the game but...
PLZZZZZZZ make tonnage limit for each person, which makes the game more interesting plus light and medium mechs return to the game.
About the UI... there would be a tonnage counter (e.g. 185T / 200T) under the dropship's icon

Will the mechs in the mechbay portray their customised colours in UI 2.0? I have not looked through all the posts to see if this question was asked previously.

I would like it more if the View of the current Mech selected.,, could be rotated. (and not be in camo mode where you are selecting your paint job). I just want to be able to rotate my mech to look them over!
Also, I think you could add an option to allow the player to choose how this is layed out..perhaps we don't care about the sales data.. or we have a small monitor and only want the most importnat parts we like.
As for the sexy front end.
I'd still like to feel...... like I just walked into a Mech bay, could be in a dropship or installation..don't matter..
but the still shot of the bay that only show 1 mech in it.... no matter how many you OWN.. well cheesy and cheap.. Iknow this is beta..ahh sort of.. but you got to do stuff that keep the player drawn it.. make them feel it..
I know this can be made simple and very nice and other game s that open with a cool liitle movie.
A nice video or animation of a guy or girl Mech Warrior in gear ( picked by the players when they start thier account)
that walks into thier Mech bay and looks up at thier mechs... then selects one and it shows them walking over to the Mech and climbing in... maybe waving to some repair people and them giving the warrior the thumbs up or salute.
something that make me feel more warrior like..please
also, I think you could add sound controls for people with surround sound and change the voice of the computer to male or female when it warns you about damage and other system issues.

It may have been in an earlier UI 2.0 post. There will be a filter you can use to choose the sequence of how your mechs are listed and which mechs to show.
