Buying your first mech is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make in MWO.

Spend your money wisely...

Or listen to the trolls and do whatever the F* you want!!!!! <3 <3 <3

Of course then again the worse the mech the better the pilot becomes, why learn in a mech that practically torso twists for you due to odd hit boxes (like stalkers) and only needs to boat one type of weapon with out even using weapons groups, instead of actually learning the basics because your mech requires you to do so and also have a varied weapon set-up that helps you find your play style and teaches you about weapon groups?
a bad/weak mech improves skill and makes you more self reliant, while a good mech/or even cheesy leaves you mostly unchanged or even reliant on its raw power to perform well, and when someone takes that away form you your powerless

skills also important, not just physical power
a tree with weak roots is easy to topple over, even more so when it has thick branches
also the slower growing a tree is and the less rushed its growth to greater heights, the stronger it will be when it achieves those heights
(part of that might have came from an episode of bleach....)

and also skills like a sword, if not properly maintained it will slowly lose its edge

I like the list. I don´t have a lot of 8s experience, but the list seems about fine. Keep it going. MWO for esports \:D/

Well, looks like Mav's topic has been superseded. http://mwomercs.com/...95#entry2425895

It basically boils down to the same thing, but being as "professional" as Mav claims to be, I think 80Bit did a far more professional job on his list, not only that, but he had the disclaimer up there from the beginning, something Mav only recently did, sort of, too little too late though. And would you look at that? It's in a decent forum section, too! Something that shouldn't confuse new player's, unlike Mav's style of 'hand-holding'.

Please like my suggestion! Help me help you get jumpjets useful for brawling!!

Also, I get a couple hundred views of the tier list on twitch.tv, but far fewer views of the video - it worth listening and watching for details, also this week's explanation on hit boxes is especially useful for new players to the game to understand how to roll damage and maximize your survivability.

And remember.. it's summer... go enjoy bikinis! (Or if you're a lady, enjoy a ripped V!! )

Good video, enjoyed it, thanks for the good infos. But can you please turn off the background music next time, it is at times louder than your voice. Also your ranting about league play, might want to move it to the end of the vid ;), cause people who don't play in that particular league might leave at that spot thinking that is the end of the informative bits ;) .

Once again all this is opinion... You may have one even if it is incorrect.

Some Mechs are harder to pilot than others but I have seen some amazing pilots out there. I have see Spiders just destroy Stalkers on the battle field and with each and every Mech comes a different feel. Each player will like certain Mechs and play them vastly differently with vastly different loadouts.

Yes some Mechs on the battle field do more damage than others but it is the Pilots that make the difference here and always will. The gaming meta is constantly changing with each patch and hotfix to ballance the game. With the JeagerMech introduction we had a perceived overpowering of LRM's which gave us 2 days of LRM battles. This was quickly stopped with a hotfix. With Highlander the new ensergence of PopTart Sniper's became all the rage. Well Jump Jet Shake stoppped that. I am a light pilot and before my time the Jenners were all the rage yet ECM stopped this and then with ECM the Raven 3L became unstoppable (at least in the eyes of slow mech pilots who could not aim) so with all the community up roar another change from a larger hit box caused them to fall from grace. The only constant here is once more the Pilots.

Also there is great joy and supprise when a possible "Joke" build actually does work on the battlefields. I have a Raven with flame throwers and MG's that gets kills due to the fact that it is ignored and the constant stream of SRM6's are missed under the "fake" damage. With the introduction of Canyon a friend of mine pulled out a 6mg JeagerMech that was shooting all of the LRM's out of the sky when the Artemis was broken and clustering the LRMs into a small target. Meta changes, suprizing the enemy can work but seriously it is all down to the pilot skill.

I have a 8 man lance I train with and drop with competitivly. We were given a "Competitive 8 man mechs list" to convert all our mechs to and I have not a single mech on that list. Dont get me wrong I have 52 mechs currently but I disagreed with each and every mech I was supposed to have. I found flaws in the majority of the light mechs and designs, yet I am being told they are competitive and that is that. I get high damage when required to fill that role in a 8 man comp, and fill many other roles when required because of the mechs and load outs I personally choose for my team to assist my team. No one mech or load out is better than another as each has their own strenghts and play styles. These can be taylored to the pilot and the roles he is required to perform in.

What is good for you may be horrible to someone else.

It is all indervidual preferance.

There are better lists out there, more comprehensive lists, lists that will help new players. This list is dying.

Amusing that anyone who doesn't agree with Mav's opinions is instantly a "noted spammer" or troll, it never occurred to him that they may be right?

Besides, shouldn't Mav be out chasing tail and not making 60 minute+ videos on his personal interpretation of the patch notes? Who was trolling again?

Yep, why don't you go back to Reddit for validation on your claims. I suppose you could just lump multiple MWO Founders into the same category and ignore their common opinion on your tier list and how it pertains to new players. Oh wait... you did that already.

Facts are facts. Numbers don't lie.

The mechs chosen in the tournaments are the top mechs listed here.

If you want to argue, then review the RHOD and LMS matches and prove me otherwise.

(OPEN CHALLENGE!)

It's impossible that all mechs are equal. Players want to know what other top players and top teams consider the better mechs.

All you guys posting and trolling are just madcuzubad.

:)

The lesson here boys and girls is that Pilot skill is actually what matters. Your mech choice can help you impact the match in one way or another. I've been piloting a COM-2D and I've managed to kill every other mech on that list. My personal favorite meal is PPC boating stalkers.

Yes luck is also a factor in this game, that noob PPC boating stalker could kill the best player out there with a lucky shot, but how likely is that to happen. I've seen a Spider 5-V the second worst light out there (Spider 5K is arguably the worst) wreck three assault mechs because he was far better skilled than them.

OP can have his opinion (a good chunk of it is wrong in other people's opinoins) however that's pretty much it. It's opinion based. I would personally put the Dragon 5N in tier 1 for heavies. That's because I've seen and played with/against some terrifying 5N players that destroyed entire lances single handed.

Find a mech that suits your style and perfect that, because you will never play better in another mech as you do in that one.

It's like saying Michael Schumacher has his opinion on a car... but it's not more valid than Joe Blow driving a Ford Pinto.

Listen to Joe Blow explain why his Pinto is better than a Mercedes. <3 <3 <3

:)

I'll take Michael Schumacher's opinion anytime...

Moar flame pls!

if i were just starting on this game i would avoid this list completely...the OP fails to understand that people have different play-styles...

this seems to do much more harm than good for a new player to find their own way....a lot of mechs listed here as tier3 or not listed at all seem to do very well for me...
