The Atlas RS used to be THE assault sniper (quad PPC + Gauss) until PGI introduced the Gauss explosion (it kills instantly 60 % of your weapons) and the Stalker, which is a lot more durable (given it's shape) and able to fire off an even bigger alpha (60 pts. vs. 55 pts.) if desired and thats all for 15 tons UNDER (which is getting important if you have to play with total tonnage restrictions rather than class restrictions).

I can see the issue it would have with tonnage restrictions. I am however surprised that at high skill levels, the ability for players to focus fire an RS's right torso is not mitigated by a players ability to guard that right torso, since they are using a high Alpha build anyway.

It is what it is I suppose. In standard play, my Atlas-RS out performs any other mech I own, since DPS is significantly higher than the Stalker.

What's wrong with the Jenner K? It's the same as the D, but trades one missile hardpoint for a module slot.

I'm a noob, but I thought module slots were really valuable.

Thank you for the guide, by the way.

I'll take another missile hardpoint over a module any day >.>

Modules are nice, but firepower is firepower no matter how you look at it.

Of the ECM mechs, which would be the most advantageous for solo queuing? Assuming fully upgraded, not stock.

If you're solo queuing it up, the D-DC and Raven 3L are gonna be your best bet.

With the Atlas, you can tank for your team and put a lot of fire down on the enemy and carry if you have to.

With the 3L you can eat up enemy lights quickly, and put lots of damage on the enemy team.

you posted this on new player help forum.
it means you're encouraging new players to minmax or to abandon all hope of buying a dragon or an awesome, and that's bogus.

Chillax, bro. I don't think any mechs are bad choices that a person would get really frustrated with, but I still wish I'd had a little direction when I was spending my Cadet Bonus cash.

I take it as he's just saying, "If you're new and aren't sure what to get, these are mechs you're unlikely to regret buying."

I have no argument with discussing the relative merits of various mechs, and I enjoy reading these tier lists.

However, I really feel this doesn't belong in the new players section. No mech is fundamentally "better" than another, and all these lists do for new players is make them think that they have to play the most popular mechs.

This post is reasonable but only within 8 man queues. Solo queueing, what mech you pilot has little impact on how you do.

Always pilot an Awesome? Yes, it's flat out worse than an Atlas, or Highlander, or most Stalkers, but in the long run you'll find equal success with it. Not because you're better - you're going to get better at roughly the same rate regardless - but because your foes are worse.

How to tell? Start a new account, pilot nothing but trials. Give it some time, and you'll end up with a reasonable w/l ratio. With trials. Of course, you'll be facing the Steering Wheel Underhive, but regardless you're w/l ratio will balance out over enough games.

So, that's why "Well, I pilot <X> and do fine!" is a completely worthless argument.

Given that, this post in the new player section is very misleading for those new players, who are going to think the "top tier" mechs are simply better for them, and that's not at all the case.

The YLW dominated the tournament in the centurion category you might want to modifiate your list.

Eh. I roll with three main chassis... my Atlas, a commando with ecm, and my trebuchet. Can't remember the chassis models right now, but i know my treb is my favorite right now, with the commando in second. I rock an ER PPC, 4 medium lasers and an srm 6 for jumping, twisting, running badass glory.

I die a lot. Meh.

I hate fighting the damn things. I end up targeting the legs the most on those since Cents take damage like a champ.

I am fairly certain that OP meant league competitive play and not whoever-plays-most-matches-wins kind of tournaments.

While I agree you need an insane amount of match to score top10, there is still a lot of skill involved its completly unfair to calli it unskill the first tourney definitely was now its a lot better.

Run hot or die (or something else) is for most player unknown or at best a phrase they have read somewhere on the forum. So if you say tournament they will think : "something versus the world".

Not a bad list. I do not agree 100%, but I believe you're pretty close.

Anyone that honestly believes that there are no tiers among the mechs needs to brush up on their Battletech lore. There has always been better and lesser battlemechs. Drop the idealist crap.

To the OP:
Dude, each mech type has it's own advantages and disadvantages, and no matter what type of mech you pick. If each and every person piloted a "Tier 1" mech from each category, more then likely, they will get steamrolled by the "specialty mechs". I noticed that each mech that has a firm grasp of it's responsibility has been regulated to Tier 3. Also from your solo tier list able to influence a match, my Awesome 9M has blown several minds when I use my accurate fire and take down mechs. As long as this list is YOUR personal preference, then Carry on. But the primary things can be broken down in to a few mitigating factors.

1) The pilot. If the pilot has the skill, he can use those "terrible" mechs and wreck your day with his skill. I have gotten beaten by Blackjacks, (Yes I admit it), because they used superior tactical skills and were Darn good pilots.

2) The mech. Each mech put into the game has a chance of being great. (Even the Flea when it comes out). They will not always be immense game changers like oh OMG, he found a way to put 8 ER PPCS on an Hunchback, (Hypothetical and insane yes), but they contribute to the variety for the players and for the diversity of the game. This game gets dull with just "Founders" mechs. Yea, I said it, and I'm a founder. With the new models and insane loadouts that I have seen in this game, I am incredibly happy to have "Tier 2 and Tier 3 mechs" cause with just "Gamechangers" it's gonna get dull.

3) Da game. Every week the devs are working to fix and plug Bugs and issues, missiles at this point as getting better and thus, the Streak Cat has returned. I used to hate Yen-lo wang, until they fixed the ballistics. Now, I have a 4+ K/D with it. Just stick it for the long haul dude, things can only get better.

curious as to why the 2D is best commando, really just looks like he said ecm above all things like better weapon placement, more effective weaponry, flexibility.....

and why the hell is the a1 cat "average" and the k2 is best while c1-c4 is worst????? seems to me like this is just a waste of time to read

5/21 patch should balance some things. hopefully brawling will make a comeback.

are you really hopping for a patch to be able to brawl?? if your good you can brawl now, if you arent able to brawl effectively now go learn how to play, im fine with out many people brawling these days because it makes being a brawler that much more useful, what would you rather have on your team flanking the enemy, a sniper or a brawler??

I would like to see the metrics you used. If you culled this from tournament results or if this is completely subjective with a dash of groupthink. The gauge seems accurate but if it -is- then PGI should use the same data to adjust things. The poster who commented 'Mechs are simply wrappers' hit the nail on the head.

So. Data?

KaoS is the best tournament team out there.

Data that.

You are 1) wrong 2) hallucinating and / or 3) never participated in a 8-man competitive tournament.

This isn't a hold-your-hand through every question.. figure it out... This is adult-learning, folks.

No, you're wrong. See you in the next tournament.

Next comment! :)

It's really hard to be exact... but it's a start and pretty reflective of the 8-man tournament scene.

The top tier 1 picks are chosen uniformly over and over again by different teams week after week.. So it's easy to point those mechs out. Ironically, the hardest placements are the tier 2 and *ESPECIALLY* tier 3...

When three mechs are just bad, bad and bad.. which one is the worst of the three bads?

Ugh.... :)

It's funny to see people comment when they don't even know of competitive 8-man tournaments. :)

I was screwing around in a trebuchet this weekend, even blowing myself up to see how the random damage was working and I still was top 10 - 15 in a medium... imagine if KaoS pilots cared about these BS one man tournament weekend things.

Stop spamming my thread with your useless contributions.

Stop being lazy and go watch the videos for your answers.

Stop posting on things you have no experience - go join an 8 man team and play in a tournament.

kk thanks... bai!

well considering you mentioned "the real question in pug land" why the hell are you drawing on experience in 8mans?????? wrong "advise" for the wrong situation, those in 8mans would already know this stuff, and those in pugs have no need for this information

You're right that those in 8 man land already know this stuff. But some of us in PUG land appreciate concentrated information, and have plenty of use for it. Why rage at someone for posting useful information?

The 2D is the best commando because 3xSSRM2 + ECM = own face. If one of the 35 ton lights could run triple SSRM2 it would instantly become king of the lights. Only the low weight/armor/ keeps the 2D from total domination.
