Also, in fairness, when have you known PGI to react swiftly to anything aside from LRMs being decent?

Having been inside of and seen them do this exact thing I think you and a lot of people have an inappropriately low amount of cynicism. It's an old moniker but "charity is a business" is far from untrue. I just wanted people to give genuinely and directly to a charity, rather than ask to be manipulated for free press. I can't truly know PGIs intentions, but I know that charity "sales" are typically treated by the decision making bodies involved as a tax break or investment in image. At least in my experience any benefit they give to the charity involved is tangential and minimized as much as possible. That's the simple reality of modern business, philanthropy is a profit generator. I hope PGI does their best to make the process as transparent as possible, but if they truly wanted what was best there would have been a donation button in the launcher while the wounds were fresh and people were feeling most charitable.
You stressed that PGI didn't have to do this in a previous post, and I agree. If they don't have to do this and they aren't doing it in a timely and appropriate way maybe you should ask yourself why they are doing this at all. They are making a man hour investment, much more of one than a dev diary, a few banners, and a spot in their front page slider would have been. If they have good intentions I laud them and criticize only their methods, either way in my opinion they are going about this very wrong and for a plethora of reasons.
I am perhaps not as 'worldly-wise' as you are as I am only 27 and my only experience working for a big company has been as a Supervisor for the major electricity retailer in my area. I don't know how their decision making department decided which charities and causes to support and whether it was done, as you say, as an investment in image but I do know that their budget was in excess of $1,000,000 a year all going to charities and sponsoring local sports teams etc. The rest of the company and the public loved being involved and I know that the monies did go where they said it did. Specifically because of our companies involvement in charities, we were one of the most popular companies in any sector in our city.
I guess I see it as a win-win situation and don't really care what the motivations behind it are, as long as the money really is going to the right place. Chances are it is a tax write off for PGI too but I guess I don't see a problem with that either, it encourages big donations since the company can claim that as a write-off down the road. Being motivated by a tax break instead of altruism, to me, makes no difference because the money is still going to charity and in this case the end does justify the means. PGI are going to get publicity out of this after the fact, but so is Cancer Research and so is Sarah's story and in the end that's what it's really all about.

I'd like to remember everyone, that we have a Code of Conduct you have to abide by.

You mean you're going to clean up my posts in this thread?
It's okay, I'm a big boy, I can handle being told off by The Man.
Apologies and I will try to contain myself next time.

Ego, Thanks for keeping an eye on things.
Koningswulf, thank you for so eloquently putting everything back into perspective.
Now, maybe PGI is being completely transparent, and maybe they aren't. I don't know, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here, because I need to be able to do that. I need to be able to believe that, when we are dealing with a family grieving over the loss of a daughter taken far too soon, they will do everything in their power to make it better, somehow.
My concern is that something is done in memory of Sarah, and that money that would have otherwise gone elsewhere goes to cancer research. That is what I personally hope for.
I know that everyone here is worried about this being something about greed or profiteering, and I share your concerns. Just remember, if any money from this goes to cancer research, it's money that wouldn't have gone there before.
I laud people who donate to charities, and I do so whenever I'm able to. I'm glad people take their own money and put it towards the well being of others.
If this mech/bauble/anything puts money towards cancer research, I'm certain they will buy it, and then continue to donate.
However, this will also get people who may not donate to put money towards the cause. Yes, some people don't donate to charity, for a number of reasons. They should, but they don't. However, they might buy this mech. People, for the whole time this game exist, might buy this mech. Every time they do, that is more money towards the cure.
Also, I know I don't know Sarah, but if I was 5, and someone turned on a video game, and said, "See that robot? That one was made just for you!", I'd think it was pretty awesome.

I will take this moment to apologize again for my previous posts. I let my anger get the better of me and I should have just let it slide because this thread is too precious for petty forum fighting.
Now that's said - I know you said in your original post that it's not about you and that we should forget you because it's a community thing but I have to say that you have done an admirable job.
Everywhere I look I see your signature. Every second person is talking about this and so I think that you, yourself deserve a huge pat on the back and a congratulations. It might have been a community effort, but you have constantly been at the forefront, leading the charge and putting your money where your mouth is to get this done. Good on you mate.

" Zraven 7" no worries, most of us need some different perspectives when in the middle of a turbulent discussion, including myself. I am glad to see my post did manage things to quiet down and get back on topic. Regardless of our own personal fellings when it comes to what have been said, one shall never forget the true reason why this post is made and that is for the honorable memory of mechwarrior Sarah, may she rest in peace and I do hope she will have a small smile on her face because of the making of her mech. I also hope her family will find some comfort in the making and see that they are not alone in sharing love for Sarah! Life can be more than cruel for those that are left behind, it is up to all of us to make life as good as it can be for all those that are hit by tragedy.

Man, this old forum troll is getting really too old for the trolling business.
But still, think at how good of an occasion this is to exercize the most brutal and disgusting cynicism. Think at how hard it is for a troll to resist such an emotionnally-filled occasion.
I'll do it, for the little girl.
But I won't spend a penny on a mech made for that occasion. I mean seriously, come on. It would just make things even worse if there were like flowers painted in shades of grey on it, and if it played some violin music for each kill a la Heavy Metal.

1) memorials to "1 child in countless thousands" are made all the time ,deal with it.
2) She played this game too so I think she would like a Mech in Her honor running around blasting away in Her memory.

So what else? Empty shell - just for your hangar - without guns - i think that would have the same effect like funding some cockpit items.
While in ATD39 it is listed that there will be a MEch no Cockpit Item - i question myself what should it be?
Best use would be a negative C-Bill Boost AntiCancer Mech....instead of getting 30% more you earn 30% less.... those difference in C-Bills is converted into MC - that is the ammount of money that will be donated.
However you have still to buy that Mech - but donating only while playing. And you don't get any advantage.

Well its all about the players:
if you buy that Hero for example for 100 MC per ton its 3500 MC. With a 30% Credit donate mode every player have to play at least 150 games or even more in that thing to create enough C-Bills to have the ecuvalent for those MC... and i think some player will play more - most will play less.
So under the hood it may be that from the 3500 -> 3000MC will be donated. Of course they could make it more obviously - or reduce the rate towards 10% what means players have to play 450 or more games
