didnt read all the 11 pages but...i just LOVE It...

finally a mech where i can realize (and quite often fail) all my crazy ac-dreams ! double ac2 with _enough_ ammo, 2xlbx+5meds (1st fitting, 5 kills), double ac20 (instadeath lol) and all those things....first i was wondering how the heat could work with only ac and lasers but it does surprisingly well when you use the laser modules only when its getting tough. it´s not OP, it´s not the best mech ever but its finally one where i could really get the stuff working that i had planned (in the lab a lot of plans seem great....and in the end they aren´t in my case)

and - what surprises me most - i´ve not seen ONE other FB in a match since its release....does no one buy it or am i the only one who´s the only FB all the time ?

thumbs up for a hero mech (finally....if someone wants to buy my IM....oh you cant....damn :))

cheers,

durutti

well, I am one of the Luddite who won't buy it because of it's regalia. I reckon I will be castigated by it, particularly by the youth and Atheist Europe, but I actually am one of the people who just can't rock the ***** paint.

I would have totally bought it otherwise. *Shrugs*

I am going to go back and read peoples comments, but I just wanted to say what i thought about this mech.

I removed the 2 medium pulse lasers, added 2 more tons of ammo for the Ac2s, added another heatsink and a little bit more armor and I've been rocking this thing. I love it.

you mean the "from hell" or the flames ? o_0 or this funny "could-be-a-round-swastika-like-thingy-but-lacks-one-arm"-symbol ? that one that could also be a japanese clan flag (which it actually is btw) ?

and what has that got to do with "the atheist europe" ? i´m no atheist (agnostic, i just done give a f*ck if god exists, no need to argue about it) and the last thing i care about in a game are the colors or symbols of a futuristic battlemech in a computergame (i´d also prefer mine to have a less metal-headbanger-look)... if you prefer the classic slimy-greenish : good for you, its free !

oh god, i wont get me the pretty baby as it _could_ be making fun of barbie...or because it got no cross/crescent/allmighty duck on it ...i´d really love to have your problems o_o

For those that don't appreciate the paintjob (no judging) you DO have the option of disguising it.

I played with the paintjob in the mechlab to be sure, but all the word and image references to anything demonic are on the same paint scheme.

So, if you wanted, you can make them the same color as the background. The third paint scheme is JUST the flames that are on it, and the 666 at the top, which, frankly, I think looks like a celtic triskel anyway.

which is fine, if you want to. On the other hand, you can actually still see it. The dude above me can mock as he want, as I said I expect i from my educated Euro betters, but it is enough that I won't buy it. What others choose to do is up to them.

I find it odd that the Firebrand didnt LOOSE anything in the transition.

Normally a hero mech loose something for that +30% cash bonus - this one only got a DIFFERENT hardpoint location.

Compare to other hero mechs who loose 1-2 hardpoints to facilitate the cash bonus - or in the case of the X5, lost it AMS.

Not always... Ilya is the only CTF to be able to mount 3x UAC5s, Heavy Metal has the most JJ's of all HGNs, etc.

Some hero mechs are definitely better than others but I feel they're balanced against the general population of c-bill mechs. Just because a hero mech isn't crappy doesn't make it p2w.

Both the Flame and the Fang have the same number of hard points as all the other dragons. The Ilya has more than some, less than others.

The Firebrand has 10 degrees less torso twist than either the DD or the S.

Honestly, to mount LARGE ballistics AND take advantage of all 6 lasers, its going to run with a XL 235 or smaller engine, less than 4 tons of ammo, and be hot as hell(pun intended). It simply doesn't have enough slots to support the heat of that many mediums/small lasers AND big ballistics, much less enough tonnage to make it effective.

Pare it down to more reasonable ballistics or fewer lasers, and you have a JM-S with less torso twist, and possibly slightly faster.

That's not unreasonable for a hero 'Mech.

All good points that i overlooked, i guess i compare a lot to the YLW who loose x3 missile slots for the ac/20 space.

au contraire ! i used it with 2xlbx + 6m lasers sometimes today and it has no heat problem at all. the lbx dont need a lot of ammo (5 tons are enough imho) and with the lasers put into 2 packs set to chain fire you can devastate the point you aim at quite effective without producing too much heat. sure, you cant fire all the time like crazy, that wont work with any mech :)

btw : can anyone explain to me why "those educated atheistic europeans" suddenly seem to be satans worshippers and - i´m quite sure - eat (christian american) children ? did i miss something ? did we legalize torture, imprison people without any legal basis and wage war against UN-laws ? i know there was something like that.... :)

I hate to be "that" guy, but a "Luddite" is someone who hates progress and technology, not religion.

The fact it gives you all those possibilities in one mech, with added higher hardpoint count than any other heavy makes it blatantly p2w.

Also it makes the k2 completely useless, unlike previous jagers where arguments could be made either way.

Every Jagermech has 8 hard points so far.
JM6-A: 2 Energy, 2 Ballistic, 4 Missile => 8
JM6-DD: 6 Ballistic, 2 Energy => 8
JM6-S: 4 Energy, 4 Ballistic => 8

The K2 has been pretty much made superflous with the introduction of the first Jagermech. All the Catapults have 6 weapon hard points, but only the K2 has no jump jets. It's hard points are in turn not that unique.

The Firebrand however appears to be the first Jagermech that does not have 3 hard points in the arms. I'd consider that a drawback.

---

Build-Wise... I wonder if I shouldn't try a 6 Medium Laser boat... ANd then see what else you can fit inside...

Oh, wait. The next MC sale is not expected before Christmas. We'll see where the meta carries us till then. We probably laugh at stinky IS mechs by then and run around with Clan mechs.

Ah, but what size engine are you using? Granted, I prefer my firebrand to run a bit faster. If I downgraded my engine, I'm sure I could trade out my AC5's for LBX-10's.

I gues I was thinking more of Gauss/AC20 when I considered the 'big ballistics.'

Naw, but your post points out a huge fallacy/issue in most arguments on this site.... they look solely at tonnage and hardpoints, and usually the peripheral attributes get overlooked.

But then, every single Hero SINCE YLW has been called P2W initially (and a few cryhards still try), "OMG!!! No other Centurion can mount that big an engine, OR an AC/20! P2W!!!!" (Doubly funny, since when it was introduced, everyone was saying AC20 was crap and the Gauss far better anyhow... until I plunked an AC/20 and 2 Medium Pulse in their faces).

This one will be no different.
