Depends on how the game is setup. We seriously use to annihilate our competition. 2-3 ERLarge and some LRM 15's and 20's. Divide and conquer.
It all depends on the setting as well, city fighting you're just about out of half your weapons unless you like your own splash damage from the LRMs, and a more well balance team has a good chance at taking advantage of your lack of diversity. I don't think anyone worth their salt as a pilot would want to fight you on your terms if they could avoid it. ER tech wasn't really something the IS had at this time period, either.
Good use of jump jets might help, but the heat built up would be pretty bad in addition to heavy use of the lasers or the LRMS. Mixed units of light or medium with maybe one heavy for a deal closer and you might well end up as scrap without a targeting lock on the faster mechs.
Not hating on the Catapult, just don't see four pults being as viable a set up if what this game is trying to achieve comes to fruition.

A Crab would be awesome, I'd rate it as my favorite Medium, but they weren't really being used in the year the game is set to

The Uziel and Bushwacker are among my favorite choices. Hoping to see them both make an appearance in the MMO.

The Uziel won't be produced for next 17 ~ 18 years.
The Bushwacker prototype existed early in the Clan invasion, but won't see mass production till 3053.

Forward the Light Brigade! Was there a man dismayed? Not tho' the soldiers knew someone had blundered. Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why Theirs but to do & die, Into the valley of Death drove the six hundred.
Atlas to right of them, Atlas to the left of them, Atlas in front of them, Laser'd and rocketed, stormed at with light and rocket, Boldly they drove and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into Harmony Gold Rode the six hundred.
Flash'd all their guns bare, Flash'd as they fired in air, maiming the infantry there, Charging an army while All the 'verse wonder'd: Plunged in the battery-smoke, Right thro' the line they broke; Steiner & Davion Reel'd from the weapon fire, Shatter'd & sunder'd. Then they rode back, but not , Not the six hundred.
Atlas to right of them, Atlas to the left of them, Atlas in front of them, Laser'd and rocketed, stormed at with light and rocket, While 'mech and warrior fell They that had fought so well Came thro' the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them,Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wonder'd. Honour the charge they made! Honour the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred!
so...yeah, Lights for the win

Arg, my emotions.
Regardless, in response to the OP I suspect the lighter classes will see plenty of play. Especially if speed of travel and response time are important factors within the game. I haven't seen much in the way of mission or world design details, but I've never had any real fun in the larger mech classes. They're just too slow for my taste.
I find that cackling maniacally while kneecapping an atlas to death is much more satisfying than blowing something's face off with a single alpha strike. In fact, the greater the disparity in armaments and armor the better. I may be in the minority on that, but I know I'm not alone.

However, my favorite will always be the VND-1R. The 'badger of Tikonov!'
Doesn't matter what the mission is, doesn't matter what the opposition is, the Vindy will pull through. Why?
Because that's what it was designed to do.
More with less.
Oh, and after 3050 I'll switch to the VND-3L.
. . . the 3L Vindicator: "bring a sweater, 'cuz its cold in here!!"
