I really used to dig on a Thor/Summoner with 2 LBX AC20, Medium lasers and SSRM 6. Great infighter until everybody got into the long range popup shooting. I used to hang around the heavies on my side and help keep them out of trouble or sneak around behind my opponents and blast away then run away!

Argus with a single LBX20, large laser, medium laser and SRM6 worked good as well.

I'll be using the Uziel and Mad Cat (the heavy, not MKII) plenty. I love both of those mechs, they're probably my favorite overall to pilot. I must suck at assault class, because every time I use one, I get decimated.

Gotta love it when people pick mechs that don't exist prior to 3050 or 3060 for that matter...

No Assault 'mechs for me, I've always been a fan of the Heavy class. Timer Wolf has been my number 1 favourite since I first played MW2 back in the day, but I'll take a Mad Dog as well. As for IS 'mechs, the Thunderbolt has always appealed to me, especially that TDR-9NAIS loadout.

If you were talking about me, I know nothing about the canon. I only know the mechs I piloted in previous games. If they don't exist (although I just researched that the Thor has been around since 2860 or there abouts), then I'm sure I can find something similar fight with.

I also like the marauder. I'm sure I'll start another firestorm cuz I like the reseen marauder...

I haven't read this entire thread (epic long thread is epic long) but... you people do realize we're early Succession Wars from what I can tell...right?

No Raven, no Bushwhacker, no Clan mechs whatsoever... think Level 1 tech from the board game, and basically throw out anything from any of the video games I can think of

That said. Jenner. I don't know if it's era, but Dasher, as well :)

I was a Bushwhacker jock online with an LBX20 in that nasty slugger arm (and little else but engines!) during the heydays of MW4Mercs. Assault mechs really were just obnoxious unless there were two of them. I predict this will go something like the Hellcat (or were they the Wildcats, I think Wildcats are actually correct)/Zero fights of WW2: One Hellcat can't take one Zero (or for that matter one Zero couldn't effectively kill one Hellcat lol) but two or three 'Cats became a quadratic function of killing efficiency. Ie two Cats could eat five-six Zero, three Cats on ten early Zero etc

My combat instincts are to be a little on the subtle, "shoot & scoot" sort of warfare, so yeah, I'm interested in learning more about this.
Someone else can stand there and take it on the chin while I work on the knees. :)

You and a dozen others,

Anyway, the "Thor" known by the Clans as Summoner won't appear in the Innersphere till late 3049 or early 3050. You can't get this mech if you are in a Inner Sphere faction (atleast not without salvaging one).

Mechs like the Argus or Uziel won't be invented for 12 to 15 years.

I should probably make a thread with all the available mechs of 3050

While i really like medium mechs, the assault mechs just are to big and heavy for me. If they really play up the physics, and get real on how slow something that heavy would move, people wouldnt be so quick to play them. You shouldnt beable to rotate a 100 ton mech as fas as something that only weighs 25 tons.

that said..

I love lights, cougers and the puma have always had a soft spot in my heart.. Nothing i love more than a couger with an LRM on one side, and SRM on the other, with a couple of medium lazers and jump jets!

but hey, cant go wrong with a bushwacker and a AC-10, and PPC, with some streaks.

I really hope they play up the mobilty aspecs of mechs and make tracking in a assault much more difficult, as it should be. There is no way a turret on a Tank, turns as fast as a manned turret on top a humvee, So why should a assault mech twist and turn just as fast?

I agree 100%, the Assault class carries a ridiculous amount of firepower and if, keyword IF, they draw a bead on you you can kiss you @$$ goodbye. If they make them relatively slow and ponderous as they should be though it'll give the little guys a fighting chance.

Well, I've been researching Sarna.net over the last 20 minutes and I'm starting to get a good idea. I came into Mechwarrior through the video games. I've never played the board games or read more than one book (Kerensky's Children, or some such). I always thought the argus was an older mech because it never had the technology level of other inner sphere mechs in the same game.

I've seen the thunderbolt and several others that would make good infighters.

The tank turret turns faster.

But letting the bad comparison aside, i agree to make speed a major advantage on par with firepower and armor.

I believe it is too early to decide for usable mech. I agree.that light/medium mech gives much more fun in single combat, but assault lance will evaporate light/med lance with direct hit weapons on approach or will overhelm heavies in long firefight.
For myself i will wait for real game to check mechanics. For now i am thinking of having both light/med and assault mechs in my hangar.

I have missed my Wolfhound so very much... I'm positively giddy with the very thought of it. :)

60-75 is a good range for me, I can play the 35-55 range too but I tend to get blowed up more. Wolfhound, Warhammer, and Bushwacker and all different but all great mechs to play with.

Since we don't really know what mechs will be available, or what the role system is going to be like exactly, it is difficult for me to really say which mech I would really want to play.

I will probably run something along the lines of a Centurion CN9-A or a Trebuchet TBT-5N.

My vote is for anything between 45 and 75 tons (Phoenix Hawk to Orion).

Though it would be interesting to use a scout hunter like a Valkyrie or a light brawler like a Javelin (30t)... It must have a good damage potential anyway.

Give me a Cougar/Scat with a couple of heavy lasers and high speed... We'll see just how long your assault mech stand up against superior maneuverability and piloting skills (plus, good luck managing all dat heat from a heavy/assault mech... I'll just jump in some water).
