I find that the Raven is an excellent light. Fast enough to get in and out, and with the right weapons, capable of killing another mech and escaping. I honestly didn't think I'd ever be a light pilot, but that thing is just great fun.

Well, with all you peeps running your medium and light mechs, I'll be forced to run an Assault. :)

I always felt better in a Med or heavy Mechs. Yah I'll use and Assault once awhile but not in every mission possible! Plus in tactical situations your undermining the employment of your forces with slow and easy targets. I hate being that one Mech that have five different Mechs shooting all at you because your the only Assault!

Would love to snag a Cougar/Assassin/Catapult. An Ares for an assault mech but that wouldn't be much fun being a gun boat.

Medium for sure. Balance is usually the name of the game for me.

That's right, folks, anyone who pilots something more than 70 tons is a sissy.

Actually, if game balance works well, I'm hoping people will hate Assault 'Mechs because they'll get shot in the weak rear armor too easily.

They don't have weak armor - we fixed it.

For me, lights and heavies. The Raven and the Cataphract are the only ones I need until we hit way later in the future. :)
For clan, it will be medium/heavy as the Stormcrow and Cauldron-Born are just sexy. Style points are everything.

Liao/Smoke Jaguar/Comstar for life! Only factions I ever loved.

Man, I can't believe it's been almost eleven months since I made that post.

I want to penetrate you in the Rear Center Torso with my not-so-little friend. He likes it when that happens, and when he likes what happens, I feel good.

Please let me feel good.

Yeah, I prefer some speed, and would often times pilot a heavy, or medium mech.

It's a shame the Atlas has a reputation for rookie pilots to jump into, false sense of security is all that gives......it takes a lot of skill to pilot a fatty well, not saying i can but i try! more love for the atlas is needed :)

Previous incarnations of this game had maps that were in essence large arenas with cover points. here there is actual terrain and the obstacles that come with it. Lights are not going to get up to full speed often and the jumpers will have to do it more then is wise. Assaults will have to waddle for cover and half stick out of it due to height. The name of the game is get off the first volley, move briskly to cover with enough armor to take return fire then get your second volley off, hide and cool off, rinse, repeat....lights and assualts will fare poorly at this while mediums and certain heavies will excell.

Without having played the game, and sticking with what's already implemented in-game... there's a certain body shape that attracts me to use them, regardless of weight class. This "bird of prey" look, a cockpit with back-bent legs, THAT'S what Battletech needs more of. Sure the Timber Wolf on the cover of Mechwarrior 2 was what attracted me to Battletech in the first place, but I always imagined it looking better without those arms. I just want to avoid a bunch of the humanoid 'mechs, which dominates the medium class right now. The Commando looks OK, I'll admit, but I really want more like this:

<HHHH .
<HHHH .
. . G## . .
. . / . . / . .
. . ) . . ) .
=+ . .=+

Something like that; just a pointed dome with a pair of legs and some weapons. That includes the Catapult, the Stalker, and I've got my eye on the Raven as well...
