I think the cultural aspects behind the Clans are what make them so interesting, but I think many people don't know much about them beyond having some vague concepts of honor and "they have cooler stuff". Not that I blame them. I was a BT nut back in the day. :)

I tried to make it so there is no "wrong answer". I thought it would be neat to see where people stand.

(NOTE): I *tried* to delete the old version of this post in the Suggestions forum. I thought it would be more appropriate here.

Enlightenment is my gift...

Seriously, we only wanted to save you from the evil houses and their constant Succession Wars.
I don't get why we always get such a bad rep, each Successor State has killed more people on average then all Clans combined.
People can mention Turtle Bay, but that was fireworks compared to the first Succession War.

Join the Clans, we minimize casualties through honorable warfare away from civilian targets.

No, the non-nuclear type of enlightenment.

I would be the first to jump into a Clan Character and bring the fight to the Inner Sphere. It is time for Kerensky's children to return and liberate that which we lost from those who have dragged it down into Barbarity and death Quiaff?

The Clans. "Kerensky's Children." "Kerensky's Chosen." "Saviors of the Inner Sphere." What a joke. I hear Clanners speak about honor, what honor? What honor is there in enslaving your beaten foes? What honor exists in treating your most seasoned warriors like the dregs of society because they are "old"? Wat kind of honor do you have when you believe that you are somehow better than those who keep your 'Mechs working and your stomachs filled? If Kerensky wanted to make a difference, he should've done it from the start. Instead he ran with tail tucked. You Clanners can keep your 'honor', your 'salvation', and the autocannon slugs I'm going to embed in your foreheads.

We do not enslave our isorla, in many cases the populations of the planets kept the same jobs, in occasional cases they would be tested to a job that may better utilize their abilities. Someone who is a skilled wielder but is unaware would be wasteful for them to continue to work in a warehouse, quiaff? The changes we did make had as long as the poor worked they were taken care of, fed, given shelter, clothed. As long as you provide for the Clan we will provide for you. The ones who would have problems are ones who were born in to a high ranked status as they now found themselves possibly in a different position, unless of course their skills warranted their position. The millitaries are disbanded and those who showed their warriors spirit, depending on the Clan can attain warrior status once more through dedication. Otherwise they serve as their bondsmaster's technician often enough.

You talk about lack of honor, but it is the Inner Sphere that has for centuries attacked civilian targets, bombed their infrastructure into oblivion. Please do not bother trying to point out Edo on Turtle Bay, as that was a isolated incident and the Star Colonel abore the Sabre Tooth (iirc) was repremanded. It was a unneeded waste of resource and personnel. I will point out Kentares where the Draconis Combine slaughtered the whole planets population. Which do you think is worse?

You fail to understand the exsistance the Clans had in the Kerensky Cluster and the Pentagon worlds. When we first established ourselves we had a very limited population, and an even more limited warrior caste. The implemention of our Old being brought back to train out sibkos was using our core philosophy of waste not. If we waste the lives of our skilled, who is there to train the next generation of warriors? We also do not force Warriors to become Solhama, they are given various options of how to proceed, often being assigned to another caste where the remainder of their skills can be used. Of course being warriors their desire to serve their Clan often has them continue service in the warrior caste in hopes of ending their service with honor.

Most of the Clans do not think the way you seem to think they do. We realize that the lower caste are vital for making the well oiled machine that is the Clans possible, We the warrior caste are there to protect and uphold the lower caste. Do not make a mistake, the civilian castes honor us and understand that with out us, outside forces could destroy them, much like your inner sphere houses keep doing to each others innocent populations.

Five, Nicholas proclaimed, was the foundation
Upon which our true society was to be built.
Laborers to till the land, to do the tasks:
They shall have our undying gratitude,
For they are the muscle behind us all.
Merchants to buy and sell with fairness:
They shall have our commerce and respect,
For they are the bones upon which we are built.
Technicians to build and fix the machines:
They shall have our admiration,
For they are the fingers with which we grasp life.
Scientists to create and discover:
They shall have our awe and our attention,
For they are the mind of our society.
And above all, the Warriors who protect.
They shall have our cooperation and worship,
For they are the blood and soul of us all.

What kind of honor do you have when you avoid civilian casualties by hold battles away from population centers? What kind of honor do you have when you fight to avoid destroying life-giving infrastructure? What kind of honor do you have when you grant a clearly defeated opponent the right to escape with the rest of his force unharmed?

A better question: what kind of honor have you forfeited in subverting any of the above?

My answer: the honor of surviving until tomorow. I will see the piles of junk you call BattleMechs smeared across the barren wastes of war.

So if this is going to be merc like, we're not playing for chivalry or to take back our jobs or holy land or put the Jade Falcon under cloven hoof, its all about the c bills and like glare said, Surving untill tomorrow, cuz our paychecks get passed out on friday =]

I choose the crusader line, but i wish i could choose point 1 & point 2!

The "great Houses" have to be overthrown! We have enough of their corruption, warmongering and barbaric behavior!
The Star League must be re-established under the leadership of the invading clans. That's the only way to peace!
Down with the great houses... :)

The clans are the aspect of BT that makes the series so compelling. While the various houses make for a great baseline, the clan mindset and approach to warfare gives the series it's anti-heroes!

Clans of the fiction are cool of course, like the way they stick to honor no matter what.
Other aspects of their culture are not so funny.
The invasion and their technology is one of the cooler elements in the BT lore.
Crusader or warden line, I will fight them, if need be.

Hope the honor thing lasts online, when all the FPS kids come to play :)

Oh you poor misguided fool, read what coffinail has already posted, my brother in arms is a very very well versed man when it comes to the way of the clans. I do wish you mind was open enough to understand that we are here for the betterment for the people of the Star League, not their detriment.
