As someone that gets easily motion sick I can understand everyone's frustration.

My suggestion for JJ shake is to make the cockpit vibrate (slightly but violently)... right now it does an odd jumping around thing, which is one effect that can easilly cause me, for one, to get sick.

Something I have yet to understand is...

If you get motion sick easily.... Why are you playing a piloting/mecha game? Why? I think its utterly obvious that the meta jocks are a little sore about this, and are looking for excuses to make it change.

Seriously though, if you do suffer from motion sickness.... dont play Pilot Simulators. The goal of this game (to my understanding) was not ever to be a game like call of duty, or halo, or any of those. Your piloting a 3 story mass of anger, the slightest jerk or twist should be making you vomit if thats the case.

Further more, I pilot a CTF-3d. This change was needed, and hasnt hindered my ability or mobility. It has introduced real skill back into the game as well. Sorry for the rude awakening to those who thought they were tough stuff in their poptart snipers.

Edit: forgot to say "Cry some more!"

I now feel really nauseous whenever I use JJ's

I spent 60-80mill cbills mastering my jumpjet mechs and now I cant use JJ's because after 1 match I literally feel like throwing up

Get rid of it

Well, that's funny as i have motion sickness too when playing fast racing games or in a roller coaster.. I don't see any issues with myself when shaking in jump jets in a game.... Guess too many poptarters are trying to make their way out huh?

Count yourself lucky it doesn't affect you, because it really really really sucks. Calling people liars that are reporting it, as many people are, is classless. It's common enough in video games, and its not flashing lights or anything like that. Its the disconnect between the motion on screen and what your brain is processing.

Not all people tell the truth at all times; a number of people are upset at this change to their play-style. A play-style which, for many people, may have been the only one they ever utilized, or the only one they have experience with, rendering their attempts to play 'normally' an exercise in losing.

It is not unreasonable to suggest that some people are 'faking it' because of the gravitas that "this causes me physical discomfort" elicits from some people; it's like students telling the teacher they're sick - sometimes they are, but it's usually obvious they just want to skip class. Now, I'm sure, for some players, to some degree this issue may be real. I've had motion sickness; I know how it works. There are, however, many other HIGHLY disorienting actions in the game - the cockpit/screen shake from being blasted to pieces by machine-gunning AC/2's, for example. Some of the buffeting-around by weapons fire is EASILY as bad as anything jump jets now induce... and as the doctor says, "... if it hurts, don't do it". This is a flashy fast-motion game; many things can or may cause disorientation for some people, that's just games for you.

This is the internet, and this is a video game - people can and do lie to get what they want, sad to say. While I sympathize with any genuine sufferer, it would be naive to assume that every person saying "this is making me ill" is being honest, and given the 'power' of claiming that a game affects one physically, it's a potent tool for any to use who want a system reverted.

I haven't tried aiming under JJ as it currently works, but I have used them on my Catapult to get up on things. I saw a light pilot say you can't land on small objects because you can't see clearly enough. I'd say that is bunk, unless they are moving significantly faster with JJ than heavier mechs. My understanding was that JJ all have a max speed, some mechs just get there faster and travel farther.

I think they're fine to me, but I can see how PGI might consider turning down the shake ANIMATIONS. Not necessarily the missed shots. The ANIMATIONS seem to be what is causing people fits, and let's face it, the player base abused the hell out of JJ for most of this game in one way or another. PGI HAD to do a heavy handed fix to solve the disparity between JJ mechs and non JJ mechs.

For those of you who cite the highest level of play where you can no longer function as you were JJ dedicated, then maybe you should be playing a game like Tribes where perfect aim is always perfect aim. MWO is not a top tier major competition shooter. It is a clunky giant robot game. It is not an ELEGANT giant robot game.

Unless they totally rip out JJ and implement the MW3 system, which I am fine with, this is probably better than it was before, and certainly leaves room to tune DOWN. Of course the problems with MW3's system were quite exploitable.

Ok, simple way to settle the idea that the shake is making so many people sick - find a group of non affiliated people who genuinly have motion sickness and test the game with them. Do the same with a group of non affiliated people who DONT have motion sickness and see what the results are. Dont tell them what they are looking for and then ask for feedback on the game or if they felt there were any negative physical effects.

Science. :)

I actually haven't touched a JJ mech in a while. I'm grinding out Jaeger efficiencies, and own and HBK-4sp. Decided to find what all the hub-bub was with JJ's. I tried the trial spider-5D and yea, it's gross. It feels like spinning around for too long in an office chair and I only used the JJ's 3 times.

FOR SCIENCE! Or just use common sense and tell people that (for all realism purposes and balance of a PILOT/MECH sim) the game is beginning to work as initially intended.... just a thought.

I thought it was already clear from all the people who flocked to the poptart meta...

I would have preferred arm/torso locked into position when your jumpjetting ( so that you don't fall sideways out of the sky) instead of shake.

*edit*

ok after trying it wtf people? screen shake is barely noticeable, its a LOT less than being hit with an AC/2 while walking. Infact its not much worse than walking down a bumpy slope.

I read some of the hubbub here about JJs and decided to try it out myself with my 2xLRM15 etc. TBT-7M and after a few matches began to feel queasy and stopped before it got worse. On the other hand, LRMs feel just about right now :)

See, to me this sounds like excuse making. Obviously your not a motion sick person. A simple computer game making you motion sick over something IRL? Really?

Again, that is why I posted my play list, to silence the people calling it QQing. Here it is again:

It's obvious I am not a poptart by the mechs I ride. I obviously am not QQing because I need it back.

What I am reporting, which is the entire point of patch feedback in the first place, is that this is making me sick. Obviously tons of other people are too... many of whom state they agree with nerfing poptarting.

And you, are the poster child.

In a few posts, you came across as reasonable and seemed to understand that some of us are having a legit and major problem as a result of this patch.

The rest of the time you basically sound like a childish [Richard].

Barely affects poptarts. Seriously hurts lights. Plus, adding random spread is simply a mechanic that should be in the game for all movement, but you've decided to make everything always hit the same location, because not having to think about where weapons are on your mech, and how your movement will afect convergence, takes much more skill.

We wanted jumpjet shake, and you managed to implement it in close to the worst way possible, in true PGI fashion.

Either:
Remove screen shake, and reduce reticle shake on lighter mechs, or;

Remove screen shake, remove reticle shake, and implement a proper convergence system that accounts for all movement, including jumpjets.

Yeah... video games never make people sick. :)

For the record, I dont get motionsickness in reallife either. Its only certain effects in video games that cause it for me. Or I suppose spinning rides at amusement parks... Certain games though ( as mentioned, Dead Island, Space Marine, original Doom and now MWO ) do cause me ( and thousands others ) to get motion sickness.

My feed back from the close thread.

Take a look at the terrain your traversing while playing the game and then look at your mech / HUD, Notice any shake? There is none. There is tons of undulation in the terrain and if you are not shaking on the ground while moving you should not be shaking in the air while moving.

I feel there should be minor mech / HUD shake from any movement. In the air there should be minor vibrations through out the mech at most.

A better solution for poptarts would be more damage done when landing without jump jets to cushion it. And an automatic fall when landing while shut down.

Really though, poptarts and missile boaters, are only a problem for players who are slow and always caught out in the open.

i'm amazed at how some people like poking fun at this or call ppl liars.
i do not own any cataphracts or highlanders, the only mech i'm running with jumpjets is a spider.
after just 4 matches i started feeling ill.
now more than 2 hours later i still havent fully recovered.
i don't feel like puking anymore but i have a terrible headache that only seems to be getting worse.
if i spectate another player ingame and he is jumpjetting even just for a second its getting worse.
out of ~10 ppl i have talked to about this (teamspeak), every single one of them reported feeling sick, or at least worse than before after just 3-5 matches.

i myself did not want to believe this the first time i took out my spider.
but its true and let me tell you its no fun.

i'm not prone to motion sickness in any way.

so far there have been lots of complaints about it, but some people just simply refuse to believe it.
less than a handful reported no problems at all, they clearly seem to be the minority here.

i have never experienced anything like this in any other game, and i have been a gamer for about 2 decades.

i was not a big fan of 8 highlander poptarts in a team. that doesnt mean its ok to enjoy other ppl getting sick for using jumpjets, or telling them not to use JJs if its making them sick.
they are part of the game, they should have their place, and if the effect is harming someone you cannot simply avoid it by not using them because at some point you will get to see it while spectating.

what a day.
