You all realize his post is being sarcy at the players who actually do think that way?!

How many of you consider that 500 or 1000 forum posts is actually a negative thing?

I'm a web developer, very little time, but involved in making games-hq.com right now. Just a side project but I get away with spending more gaming time and time on game forums.

I know that professionals do not have time to do 500 posts. So if the devs gave out 1000 or 2000 beta keys and only gave them to players with big forum participation. They may not be including a lot of professionals in the mix, that would be very bad indeed.

I code, I create software, I could do them justice. But I would not be surprised one bit if they didn't include me in beta simply because I look like I don't have a job due to how much time I've spent on a forum. (not having job does not mean someone is not professional but in software or web, there is always work)

Also not saying they do think that way, I'm saying I would if I was in their shoes. Lucky for me, all my beta testers are professionals as the software I sell is for developers so I don't need to worry about kids getting hold of it and just using it for fun rather than being a useful beta tester. Which wastes a beta access.

:P Tons you say?

Maybe not tons, but still enough to get the good idea of the map(a new map will be included soon, or maybe it already has been included), what mechs and weapons have been implemented, how the current gameplay mechanics are working, what's included in (beta)patches and so on. And no, I'm not breaking NDA, since I haven't signed it obviously.

Okay...

Time for me to fess up. I'm sitting at work waiting for a scene to render and I've got waaaaaaay to much time on my hands in the interim.

:P

Thanks all for accepting my tom foolery and for pandering to my goofy side...

That said... the devs need to know that I know where Canada is... I've got Google, a vehicle that could theoretically make that trip and a passport... I'm like only 825 miles, 100 rest stops and a case of Monster away from you guys... I like camping.

Ha... I like camping... win

I think you can chalk this up to two things:
  • The maturity level of our average member.
  • MW:O must kick some serious butt not to have someone go off half-cocked and spew vitriol because the game-play is garbage.
:P

One of the many reasons I am looking forward to this game, so much. (the irony of #1 on this post ;P)

Irony cuts both ways... Is it more ironic that in a silly post I acknowledge the maturity level of the average community member or is it more ironic that in a thread I clearly stated I was cutting up... some members are potentially taking me serious?

Hmmmmm............. :P

Yeah, but they are mostly nonsensical quips so I can effectively rapid fire them out... :P

There was a time when "quality" meant more than "quantity".

Do you think players actually set out to do this and are treating the posts counter as a score?!

I have no doubt that a small'ish percentage of members entered into this under the preconceived notion that post count, number of likes and dev pandering would give them a foot in...

While it's pretty assumptive... it's a natural one, taking into consideration many of these members may never been this close to the dev cycle of a game. :P

I'm actually amazed at how well disciplined the closed beta players are - 2000+ players and no leaks on youtube or other video sites that I can find.

This must be a first for such a game, other popular closed betas have vids up within the day.

No leaks you say? You should have seen one of the posts last night.

They won't read the full post.

Trolls seek argument and they have no care or respect for what people have to say. This post on the STO forum would already be on fire, a team of elite moderators would be flying into the office wearing combats and military style laptops to get things under control.

lol he will get about 1000 likes on his post by end of week from all the entitled players not reading the post properly.

There is still time for this thread to spontaneously com-bust as a result of someone jumping to the end and adding their own genuine entitlement rant.

Personally, I was on the closed beta test for Lineage2 a p2p game. I loved it so I had 9 accounts for 6 years @ $15 for each. Then when WoT came out I joined that closed beta. I have been playing ever since buying gold to keep up with the other top players. Do deserve a beta key? The answer is no. I would like one sure. Like everyone else who has not got one. Either way when open beta comes be sure to see me on the field playing. What I hope to be the MMO of the year MWO.
