How many of you consider that 500 or 1000 forum posts is actually a negative thing?
I'm a web developer, very little time, but involved in making games-hq.com right now. Just a side project but I get away with spending more gaming time and time on game forums.
I know that professionals do not have time to do 500 posts. So if the devs gave out 1000 or 2000 beta keys and only gave them to players with big forum participation. They may not be including a lot of professionals in the mix, that would be very bad indeed.
I code, I create software, I could do them justice. But I would not be surprised one bit if they didn't include me in beta simply because I look like I don't have a job due to how much time I've spent on a forum. (not having job does not mean someone is not professional but in software or web, there is always work)
Also not saying they do think that way, I'm saying I would if I was in their shoes. Lucky for me, all my beta testers are professionals as the software I sell is for developers so I don't need to worry about kids getting hold of it and just using it for fun rather than being a useful beta tester. Which wastes a beta access.
