I didn't see any actual leaks, but I did see some... interesting? posts from folks.
Here's how I come down on this... I really want to get my hands on this game. But, at the same time, I understand that the devs really don't have time to hand-pick thousands of beta testers. So, they set up some rules, and then roll the dice.
But at the same time, I totally understand the annoyance of folks who are really, really, REALLY into this game... folks who have been waiting for a decade for it to come out... when some guy shows up and says, "HAY GUYZ, I JUST GOT IN THE BETA, WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH ALL THESE ROBOTS?"
It's not really faulting the devs at all. They need a random sampling at certain stages in the testing process. And frankly, they need to appeal to folks who aren't hard core battletech/mechwarrior fans. There really aren't enough of us crazy die hards to support the game as well as it deserves to be supported, I don't think. So pull in some of those folks who have never heard of battletech and mechwarrior, and get them into it.
Besides, at some point the devs are almost certainly going to be putting this thing in open beta, in order to test what happens when all of us pile into the servers (assuming they're not going the Blizzard route of just having 1 server up on launch day, and then saying "Server! Y U No Handle Load?!").
As a result, I'm thinking we'll all get a chance to play soon, probably in the next few weeks. Do I wish I could play, right now? Yes. But I'm not gonna scream at the devs and say that I somehow deserve to be in the beta.
What's funny to me, as a software developer, is how testing games has become this thing that we actually like to do... It's like Tom Sawyer... "Hey Paul! I'll let you have my best marbles if you let me paint your fence!" I know that I gotta PAY folks to test my software usually.
