OP, isn't this at least the second thread about that same issue that you've posted in the last week?

I PUG only and have to say I pretty much am having the most fun I've had since closed beta. Sure sometimes we scatter across the map and get ROFL stomped and sometimes we run into the obvious premades and get ROFL stomped.

I have noticed, however, that my fun is based largely on my timezone. I play usually later in the evening 8-10 Alaskan time, and usually on week nights. So I assume a lot of players have gone to bed by the time I log on. Also, my ELO is probably pretty low.

And how do you know the other group isn't a premade? I've had loads of fun trying to direct them in battle. They aren't going to listen to PUG'gers.

When you are pugging, it's your job to save the noobs from their own mistakes.

When you lose, it's your fault for not being good enough to carry them.

It's one of the things I like about pugging. It gives you a chance to be a hero for strangers.

this is so true, think like that and your game will become easier.

Ah my bad, I misremembered someone who had almost the same thread. My apologies.

I understand the frustration, but 3 bad games is hardly a fantastic sample size. I've been in plenty of games where PuG's are eager to listen to instructions. Certainly you should play the game in whatever fashion that preserves the fun factor, but bear in mind that there will be streaks where things don't go as planned.

Exclusively pugging you will get good and bad games fairly evenly, as your ELO is based on playing solo. Pugging when you primarily play as a group, you will still be in the same ELO bracket, but you will be seriously handicapped by lack of communication, knowing how your team plays etc... So I suspect you will on average have a far far harder time. And yes this is a failing of how the ELO works. Having a group drop automatically consider your ELO higher for placement in a match (maybe 2% for 2 man, 5% for 3 man, 10% for 4 man {would need testing to balance this}) might resolve many of these problems.

Alternatively having voice chat in game for your team would also probably remedy this, and if done properly I think would be the better solution.

Another thing that could help is having a quick description page you can bring up letting people give info on how they play.

(Ningyo: Cicada 3-M, "140kph, 2 ERLL, ECM, harass main brawl from behind try to get 2-3 chasing me or core them")
(Ningyo: Atlas DDC, "2PPC, 2UAC5, streak, ECM, Snipe/Brawl, stick with pack")
(Ningyo: Highlander, "70 LRM, testing these try to stay close to pack but very slow")

Something like that that your team could view in only 2-3 secs per person at beginning of match while walking away from base. Would have to be able to set it for each mech separately for obvious reasons. I think this would be good and have no downsides and should not be difficult to implement, and it could add a lot while pugging, and even in a group to see the rest of your team.

Whine, whine, whine. I had a bad run, so I'm quitting PUGs.

Last night at 2:30am, I decided it was time for my customary one-last-good-round. I proceeded to go 0/10 over the next hour. It was excruciating. I got eight terrible teams, one good set of opponents, and then I was useless once. It was horribly frustrating, particularly when I really just wanted a single win.

But that's not going to make me ragequit like a little kid. **** happens and people are dumb; roll with the punches and stop whining.

Since they switched up the trial mechs, a lot of PUGs tend to go like this:

Billyjobob joins his first match in (you guessed it) a trial Atlas mech. He either shoots a teammate or charges to his doom. If he charges to his doom, you must follow his lead otherwise its just one waste of an assault mech.

During the leaderboard tournament recently, I played 55 games and won 40, all solo pugging. Other top players have proven you can do similar things, pulling win/loss ratios up to 3 or so even when playing alone, no voice coms. I get dropped with awful teams all the time, but I don't complain, it happens to everyone. You can carry in this game even alone. Not 100% of the time, but most of the time. Don't quit the game because of getting matched with a bad team, just do your best to carry.

Couple basic Pug rules.

Follow another Mech when not a Scout. If all players do this, the group stays together by sheer osmosis.

If your a Scout Mech, wait 30 seconds to determine where the unhive-mind is going, then Scout out ahead of that group. Running off by yourself, then yelling "they are over here" may have a few slow Mechs with no recourse. Getting to you may take 5 minutes...

Once the enemy is located, return to the unhive-mind as see what they are doing, then carry on scouting ahead of the group. Perhaps they are flanking around the left... :)

Translated: Grab some popcorn and watch them perform some slap-stick comedy while being bent over and assaulted.

Sometimes people in PuG's communicate great, and it's AWESOME!

When they don't, or completely ignore info I change up my tactics, and pick a buddy that I decide to play 'support mech' to. Try to help focus-fire in a small manner and hope my team doesn't get itself killed too quickly. Not much else you can do. You can't MAKE peope listen.

i like when i pick a "buddy" atlas and he turns out to be an LRM atlas. smfh

i wonder if it will be possible to carry a team in 12v12.

It will of course become that much harder to carry in 12v12 because your play as an individual becomes a smaller percentage of the t total play. Top players will still maintain solo pug w/l ratios of 2+ for sure.

PUGing has its ups and downs. Granted, there are a lot more downs then ups. But, sometimes you get surprised and the team is actually pretty good (or the competition is just that bad). Here is the greatest thing about pugging: every so often, you get to team up with or fight against a fellow board warrior. Friendly names, even if they're not friendly, is always a good thing and a welcome sight. Everything else is just gravy.

yes that's exactly what im doing .. whining ... thank you for your wonderful insight regardless of how full of crap it is. I think its time you head back into the PuG world and cause others to tear their hair out disregarding any info passed your way by other team-mates

When you drop in groups, your elo inflates because of your ability to communicate and work with your teammates.

When you solo drop, you can't, so you naturally do worse.

Sums up the broken nature of Elo pretty good.
