for the balancing act of clan tech when it arrives. It seems to me that they are having a tough time trying to balance game play at the moment. It will be interesting to see how PGI plans to balance clan tech when it eventually gets here. I think it will be even more difficult.

like I said in another post, they better delay clan tech until IS tech is fixed and balanced.... and they need to go back to the drawing board for some features for that (ECM, Convergence, etc)

Also, I have no idea how they're gonna implement Omnipods if our current mechlab kind of does the same thing.

Clans are going to be either underpowered or overpowered judging by our current balancing quality. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I don't care how it's gonna play, it'll all be sorted out, I just want to pilot my Timber Wolf and see it stomping on the battlefield.

Honestly, at this point I feel like PGI should give everyone in the Beta test a free Timber Wolf when clans come out (as it is the poster mech of Mechwarrior) after all the **** we've been through. It would help us test initial balance too.

Just as long as they don't give it the Catapult hitbox treatment...

Uh, it will I fear. Depending on the physical size, it might even be worse from what I recall from the cockpit size of the thing in the torso.

Not to mention the ears, depending on what PGI plans to do with those (part of side torsos or separate hitbox).

Obvious Arms, Legs - the LRM pods are the Side Torso segments leaving the CT and Head.

Oh god, do I fear for that head...

Honestly, I bet they are going to bring back unseen for the IS to ballance things out a tiny bit; but they will be extremely expensive and rare.

IS may also get defensive spawns on maps by default, like river city. It's hard to penetrate that platform if the team works together to defend it.

I believe they also said they will bring defensive type map modes with turrets etc. So imagine a game where your fighting an assault on your base, with lrm and cannon fodding turrets to assist. To add depth, you may need to guard the command posts from attacks by the enemy seaking to disable the defense systems.

If the IS has these features, it will add a lot of value to the Inner Sphere and many players will opt to remain in a House rather than Join the Clans. It sounds fun and fool proof if you ask me.

Alternatively, since the clans favour small lances that hit fast and hard, we may start seeing games like 6 vs 8 or something.

I can assure you that SPL, MGs, and Flamers would still be UP, despite clan tech advantages.

There was/is actually a bug or glitch that occasionally causes the paper doll readout to show rectangular shoulder pods and replaces all text with "WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW."

Might provide us with some insight on what PGI is planning or at the very least what they have considered.

Pods being a part of the side torsos was alright in TT because there were no such things as hitboxes or convergence. In MWO, the Mad Cat would be DOA if it had the ears as part of the LT and RT...and that's even without considering the very likely oversized head hitbox.

So, we mount it in the Side Torso but it'll register in a shoulder hitbox? Blast the shoulder but the arm remains? That'll be odd.

One thing they could do is make it so that each side torso has fewer crits and those crits are just moved up to the pods (i.e. 2-3 crits per pod and 9-10 crits per side torso). Anyways, I don't personally find it weird because the square pods are just stuck on top of the shoulders (the pods are not the shoulders themselves).

Hopefully they will have taken in some top-tier competitive players to their balance team, or taken a more serious interest in consulting the competitive community.

Easy to balance clans, just have them drop 8 man vs 12 IS, still might not be perfect but should get you in the ballpark.

Of course if they insist on having 12 IS vs 12 clan then maybe make clan stock only? otherwise IS doesn't have a chance in hell.

In MW4, they had an interesting idea, where the "ears" of mechs, like the Madcat and MKII would have independent armor, but you had little/no control over (I forget the exact details). One of the annoying issues that occurred was the weapon destruction transfer model that when the ear was destroyed (whether or not it had a missile) would destroy weapons in that ear's torso side.. .which was odd at best.

Of course, we have no idea how this will all shape out, but it's a relevant thought to how those ears would be designed.

Clans use 5 man stars and if mwo would go through the effort of making a lopsided match it would consider that fact in all likelihood.

If Clans were stock only then our min-maxed IS builds would r@pe their faces off. Most Clan stocks have the same "many different weapons for every range bracket" philosophy that IS stock mechs do. Also, many of them come stock with way too few DHS and make use of weapons that would be underpowered even with Clan advantages applied to them (MG, Flamer, etc.).
