After it is set up and if they player base is there they will expand to take care of the players
If they dump a ton of cash into it and they don't get the correct return no investers will front the cash for any future needs
So one step at a time

WoT did the same thing
And trust me
Lag S**KED when it was just in Russia

YES please. I play WoT and still do and i play fine at 250ping but i would much prefer an oceanic server. I would be fine if they didnt have one at release of open beta but i would like to have an oceanic server implemented at some stage.

The only problem I can see is that Merc matches when fighting for control of a planet will likely require a fight with players spanning continents. So in the end your most important match might still be played on a US server. That aside, I vote for a match server in Singapore: fantastic IT infrastructure, English as primary language, good connections to the rest of Southeast Asia and Oceania... what's not to love about throwing a server in Singapore? ;-)

I support this mainly because I play from Malaysia.

I have found that ping times of US West vs. Australian servers to be about the same. (And fairly often, the ping to Australian servers is worse.)

if it doesnt happen at launch it may as well not happen at all.

no-ones going to want to spend all that time leveling a character then have to start again on a new server from zero.

WOT is losing soo many players from oceania they obvously don't need the money and/or don't care about the player base.

It was mentioned earlier, by Ross, that it is a matter of 'when' not 'if' servers open up, and also was mentioned that there would be a one time port for players. I dont remember exactly where I saw this on the forums, but it is there.

A lot of us Aussies and subsidiary minor nations (Hi kiwis), don't really get what a difference ping does make because we've talked ourselves into this idea that we can make up for it by leading our shots and all the rest of it. The difference really shows up when you play on a local server for a while and start realising that due to the amount of lead you have to give with a 300ms lag shot, you can't possible hope to shoot with any sort of real accuracy. Your shots not penetrating isn't /just/ because of the other tank's armour. The ability to actually put the crosshairs on the specific section of the target you want to hit and pull the trigger rather than estimate how far the target will have moved based on how much your connection is lagging and their theoretical trajectory should not be underestimated. This will be particularly telling if, as is rumoured, MWO goes with pinpoint accuracy on weapons instead of shot dispersion like WoT uses.

Thanks to all the QQers, they'll probably leave out 1 shot coring like they did in the previous MW games, but that just makes the ping advantage even greater, because the guy with the 12ms ping is going to be able to draw two shots directly onto your CT due to the simple expediency of point and click while your best guess is much more likely to spray one into LT or RT instead.

The Oceanic economy is doing very well and that's another good strategic reason to have servers there.
