Currently, this generally means LRMs, SSRMs (streaks), and PPCs.
SSRMs are popular because despite technically dealing less damage (per weapon equipped) than most SRMS, and all LRMs, they strike the CT with disproportionate favor, and as a result will mostly appear to simply core mechs, even from behind, without greatly damaging the other armor. They also fire whole seconds after losing a lock if you simply hold the fire key from when they are locked and recycling to the next shot before the reload finishes. In top of this, they are not restricted by tube directions, meaning they can be fired and hit from almost any angle, including behind the firer.
SSRMs are the easeist weapon to strike and get kills with in the game when used correctly, and are currently putting the squeeze on the lights and mediums game. Taking SRMs over them right now simply doesn't make any sense to a smart player, as SSRM2s will outperform even ASRM6s in damage and hit rates. (SSRM hit rate is 100% unless blocked by cover or range.)

Just like many of us predicted, BAP has completely negated ECM, so just fit up 6x SSRM-2, a BAP, and the Streak Cat is back in full force.
They are not as deadly as they once were, but now seem to have no counter themselves (beyond killing them, which is a hard-counter to everything

Not that you guys aren't right, SSRM are the most ridiculously extreme thing in the game in terms of Input:Output ratio. They're easier to use than PPC boats for crying out loud.

The shake got reduced, but the missile explosion visual that blacks out the cockpit view never got fixed.

I remember those days. I still use my BAPCAT today, it is effective....only when I have a new player ELO dropping me though. At my correct level dropping with my clan m8's....I usually get wrecked by ppc/gauss builds.

There are tons of mechs that directly counter streak cats. The only thing that streak cats really counter is lights.

Once PGI's tracking fix for SSRMs goes live (hopefully sooner rather than later) I expect SSRM usage to plummet until SSRM and SRM damage gets boosted again, and even then SSRMs will likely be relegated to a secondary/point defense weapon system rather than a main offensive power source.

What was there to forget? A large part of my hate for Cravens is how they stiff-arm you with Streaks (though a NARC tube, no less!) While they give you a high-deflection shot to blow, they get to vertical-launch the fool things, all in sync with the cycle time of medium-/ medium pulse-lasers …
Everyone talks about teh damage: No; It's about how much time Streaks buy for their users.

My Cataphract got killed by one last night because the constant ripple fire and cockpit shake made it impossible to fight back.
Is that a legitimate way for them to win...? I guess so. Still seems cheesy though.

Streaks are a good example of why you don't have homing attacks in PVP games. Just stop, devs from all corners of the earth.
Either they're completely useless, or completely broken.

Bingo. PGI's fix won't do much because streaks are still a free DPS boost with little to no tonnage/heat/aiming required.
