I havent yet received my beta key and i cant wait to get it so i dont know if there is such feature(i think there is not) but here it goes

It would be awsome to have some button in shop to go to a training map where u could test your mech build when u customize it how u want in battle lab and go test its field capability before u buy the build

like if i get catapult but i dont want it with missles, instead i want it with lasers and cannons to be able to test how that works before i buy everything for it and then be dissapointed with that build

hope there will be such feature in Mechwarrior and hope i'll get my CB key soon to test the game till then all the best to Devs and everybody and those already in, have fun and enjoy

Many of us are hoping for something like this; otherwise there will be a LOT of "Buyer's Remorse" with purchases.

A simple offline mode that allows the unlimited purchasing of any Mech, configure it however you want, and put any Mechs out in the field on any map (no AI, just sitting ducks), would be invaluable in letting the player test and train in a non-trial by fire manner.

Buyers remorse is part of life, do the research. And as far as non-trial by fire, foolish. In many sircumstances how upset your mech gets by hits is the matter between life and death.

That's an excuse which completely ignores the issue.

Be lucky I'm not your boss because I'd have fired you for such a lackadaisical skirting of addressing the issue rather than commend you on your deft enthusiasm in ignoring it.

A game has every chance to right the wrong of the real world. There's no excuse for people to regret their purchases when such a simple system could easily offset the problem.

Doesn't even need to be an offline mode. Have a simple firing range and obstacle course you can run through prior to buying/building a setup. Make sure it works the way you want.

Depending on the amount of time/$$ invested into a purchase I can understand the desire for this, but it doesn't have to be...everyone will start with something, hopefully you should be able to figure out what you would like more of before the time comes to just start buying up stuff.

I hate to start referencing other games but LoL uses a rotating "Free champion list" every week that lets you try out a bunch of characters before you buy them, perhaps something like that could work here. Simply being able to test the heat output/dissipation of something before you pony up would be enough for me, though.

What's the point of trying out a Mech, though? The only feasible way you could is to do so in a non MP environment, because if they give you the Mech to try, it's unfair because it wasn't purchased. Why not just not have to wait for the week to roll around where you can try out the Mech you're interested in and just have a mode where you can use any Mech customized the way you want and take it into an offline map with no other players?

You can fully acclimate yourself to its abilities, see how well it configures in the Mech Lab, and if happy, go to the market and buy yourself one.

If you're looking to buy, a non-combat scenario/light map would be the best. Hiding it behind ambiguity (as we all know, raw numbers don't translate to 'in field' experience) doesn't help a feeling of security when purchasing. Learning to deal with size, speed, acceleration, deceleration, heat generation, all in a non-combat environment would help people figure out what they'd like. Perhaps only allow testing for presets.

I'm inclined to agree with you... if the devs don't/won't put a SP aspect in the game, then having a simple firing range/obstacle course seems to be the next best thing. Either that, or perhaps an in-game simulator geared towards these same goals? It'd exist in real life... why not the game? Whatever the devs decide to do, I hope they include some sort of way to test our designs before taking them into the field. None of us here know what mix of weapons/mechs will work the best for our playing styles... none of us here have played MWO yet. We should ALL be allowed to test out our weapons/mechs without fear of having them be destroyed.

it could simply allow someone into an empty map with the mech and let them run around. They would pay for any ammo or damage but they can just get a feel for the mech.

Or allow them a couple of matches, without earning any xp, c-bills, LP or the such, so that they can get the combat feel.

I like this idea it is going to be hard to do of course but in the long run it can be great i do see some flaws like people all having the same mech but on the other hand different build of mechs and so on can differenciate between mechs so no mech is the same

I concur with the desire to have a testing range feature before confirming new mech design purchases.

I strongly agree with the need for some sort of target range or practice mode feature. Perhaps even some enemies that fire back so your armor can get some testing.

Some sort of reproduction of the Instant Action mode of the previous games, with some basic settings and an open MechLab would be nice to have. Someone who might not purchase things normally might even be convinced to purchase something after having tried first hand how awesome it is.

A method I'm not a fan of, but seen many F2P games employ is 'rental'. You get that particular weapon/mech for a few days at an extremely reduced cost. Usually the cost is the in-game currency which you can earn, so you're not exactly bumming your actual cash on a trial run. I reckon something like this should be the bare minimum at the very least when it comes to 'trying out' buyable gear.

I have absolutely ZERO desire to put up with rental systems. ;)

If we buy a Founders pack we are buying a mech with another month before we can even play it. Somehow I can't see the option to try before you buy being in at launch.

Just have an option for a max 2v2 custom made game with no XP/C-bills for killing each other and no repair costs. This will be hosted on the PGI end and not by us.

We'll have to wait and see what the game brings.

I'd like to chime in on this.

I work out on the road for an underground telephone construction company. I frequently find myself in areas where internet access is problematical. I would love to see an offline mode for those times when I can't get a good line out to the world. I also believe that it would benefit the game as a whole, giving new pilots a place to become familiar with the controls where they don't have to worry about some elite trigger fingers blowing them to shreds. It need not be a full version of the game. Just a simple set of "missions" to help a pilot get a feel for his/her mech or hone up on his/her skills.

While I can sympathize, this is an online game primarily. I don't know if allowing players to emulate a server locally would be a good idea in terms of security of the client.
