CT cored, rest of armor barely touched. That's MWO for you.

If I die like that, it's because I did something seriously wrong. Especially in a highlander. Especially with the amount of varied weapon systems that damaged you.
Hate to say it, but it's not the games fault.

hmm see those 2 kill assists? Those were the only 2 kills that our team did. We got steamrolled. I wasn't even badly positionned, all my teammates died (I was the 7th one to die) and was left alone against stalkers (don't pay attention to those LRMs in the screen, PPCs did all the damage)

That is one of the most frustrating things about the game, especially when your team is a lot lighter or only has 7 players.

Learn to torso twist.
My God you are such an *****.
OP: I hear ya. I guess Darren has never looked at a STK with 6 PPCs (or two, as is usually the case). 'Cause all it takes is a second and you're dead. No "torso twist" is gonna save you from that.
Btw Darren, how do you hit your targets when you don't look at them? I'm curious to know more about this skill of yours.

At some point you have to face your opponent to shoot him.
Unlock your arms. When my CT or typically my RT (Atlas RS with XL engine and Gauss rifle in one side) gets red internals, I'll torso twist so that my good side faces the enemy, and fire from the arms.
Twist away, hold CTRL, point at enemy, keep shooting. Turn accordingly to give yourself more leeway or to better protect that side.

This is not "L2P." I'm not overjoyed by PPC meta or whatever myself.
But.
I run a Blackjack.
With Large Lasers. Which, understand, makes me terrible, right there. No two ways about it.
However.
I still rarely die without having used some other parts of my mech to absorb a bit of damage, spread it around.
Do I get CT cored? Here and there, yes. I run an XL, and here and there, I get taken out by a few big alpha's or focused fire from enemy mechs and losing a side torso, having dealt pathetic amounts of damage and generally feeling useless.
None of this invalidates what is being said.
Torso twist, use cover, make sure they have more than one target available to them, and you can still do very well even in builds seen as "crappy" or "hilariously awful" as mine sometimes are.
I can pull the same type of good matches - 300 to 500 damage, 3 to 5 kills - in bad builds with bad piloting and my own bad decision making by occasionally not being bad and using all the good advice often posted and rejected by those with an ax to grind.
I'm just pointing that out. Sorry.
