I've fought Goons in EVE for the better part of five years and I can only say that they are excellent badguys. They vary from inexperienced to extremely skilled, they have an amazing supportstructure and are very apt in metagaming. I say they are excellent because they play their role so well: they're very easy to hate ingame. Mittens is an amazing antagonist and his style and attitude plays a large part. I also believe that Mittens is very good for EVE, so I voted for him in the last CSM election, because I can see the difference between Mittens the player and Mittens the character.

In short EVE-Online would be a far more boring place without Goons and I'm very happy they decided to spend some attention to MWO. I don't care if I end up fighting with them or against them in MWO, it will be a lot of fun all the same.

So World of Tanks and Call of Duty don't count as fair fights? I'll tell you what, Modern Warfare 2 certainly didn't count as a fair fight because of all the damned exploits and hacking that went on, and we still used to win there.

Also in EvE? Everything that I've read went on was fair because it was in the rules of the game. The fact that people didn't like it doesn't make it unfair. If another group managed to be as co-ordinated as the swarm was then I doubt there'd have been an issue at all. Unfortunately the internet at large seems to be full of people who try to improve their own scores/standing rather than actually play objectives. I mean, look at Call of Duty's all star player Wings of Redemption, who's best known for posting videos of domination matches where he goes nowhere near the objective markers and whines that no-one else is capping them as he racks up a million kills and his team loses.

So, you're speculating based on no historical precedent. While you may be right, I'm not a Psychic Friend anymore, I would highly encourage you to know your opponent before giving people hope like that. If I were a betting man, which I'm not because I gave it all to the JCLDS to support my multi-**** habit, I'd bet against you.

As I said on page 4(?) of this thread, I (and many others) have had experience in Goon, and/or against Good, and/or as a generic 'pubbie' looking from the outside. I certainly have mixed feelings about them being in MWO and House Liao; but the more you try to bait them, the more you try and antagonize them, the more you're simply going to find yourself the one antagonized. Either have fun with Goon, ignore Goon, or leave the game, because they are here and that's that.

I think what he means is.. If the goons try to dominate MWO and fail, they will likely pack up and leave or go into hiding... And that the odds of them dominating a game where there are alot of ... highly skilled mechwarrior veterans, they may find it alot harder than they think, no matter what schemes they may be planning... Ill say this, I know they have inside knowledge already about how the game works, since they have beta testers sharing info.... so out of the gate they may have a slight advantage, but we old school mechwarriors learn fast. I wish them luck, they will need it.

Only way they could withdrawl from a game is if a community aimed at them would form. That itslef would only feed their ego, but if those guys pitted the whole gaming community against them, hacked their forums, spammed their team speaks and make their lifes horrible, goons would simply cease to exist. ;)

You know that things like that make them criminals and if it was proved by PGI, they could sue those people for a lot of money and no titan in the world would help them. I sincerely hope for them that they don't simply go against the law like that, because in real life, their actions aren't unpunished (like when Mittani got drunk and told them to force someone to kill someone or something like that). ;)

Ah, yes. Terrorism. Certainly the way to defend you rmoral high ground. He who fights monsters, and so forth.

It might work, but you're also going up against a group with proven tenacity and a larger resource pool to pull from. Total war may not be the wisest course of action.

Or if you prefer another cliche: If you come at the king, you best not miss.

It's not agianst law to make someone's life horrible on the internet. The whole goon community is seeimgly based around this very fact. ;)

Ah, I see. Well that presupposes that we actually HAVE a plan. I mean, the main plan at the moment as far as I know is "go on teamspeak, coordinate, ends".

In terms of sharing beta knowledge, go look anywhere you like in the SA forums, no one is doing that. SA has always been good about respecting game developers even when we've been ****** at other things. There's a lot of devs from various developers with accounts, and if there's one thing in this thread that's been spot on its that the community looks after its own.

You're threatening to hack a forum, specifically a forum that requires paid entry. From a purely technical standpoint, yes, there is a law against it.

It'd be like someone calling you fat every day after work, so you come in and shoot them one day. The name calling is a dick move, but not illegal. The shooting, while aggrivated, is still a crime. I haven't seen goons threaten the community with much of anything in this thread, and yet you seem to be the one recommending ruining people's lives.

Have you considered the possibility that you might be a horrible human being and not them?

First part is that it is possible to down goons.

Second part is reminding them of law.

Nothing against them right now, though. ;)

"...and yet you seem to be the one recommending ruining people's lives."

Poor choice of words on my part. It was meant that way you ruin their games by teamkilling them, etc.

Any prerelease info your group has, will be irrelevant upon release... So it doesnt really matter much.. Lets just say someone in the goon group let a little something slip in public... somewhere.... and I saw it. 4000+ members, you cant possibly expect that they all be honest can you? Dont sweat it.

You specifically mentioned out-of-game criminal acts to harrass them until they left. Teamkilling? Okay, sure. That's fine. That's an in-game action to be dealt with by in-game reaction however is appropriate. Fair game.

There is a wide gulf between teamkilling and defacing/destroying property and harassment outside the community setting. You should be more careful when you speak, people might take you more seriously than you wanted.

Clearly, the wisest method to remove a hive of wasps is to take off your shirt and repeatedly whack with a pool noodle while yelling "COME AT ME BRO"
