As much as I like the attempt at adding old "Unseen" mechs. I would love to know more about the community warfare changes, and if it is going to be worth it to keep the game installed and comeback?

After seeing that I will be able to buy my Shadow Hawk with C-Bills I doubt I will be getting the Project Pheonix package.

Good work on the concept art though, I like the look. I dont say that often.

You don't understand. Its easy money for HG because they don't have to fight; all they have to do is demand a settlement that is less than the millions that a protracted legal battle would cost.

Why is it a surprise that fat beats skinny in a wallet fight?

They got intellectual's. You got intellectual's.
Why not put your intellectual's to designing something NEW.
Really new. New art, new look, new mount points, new names..........new etc.
That way you take a leg off the other sides legal team. 99.............clump
Surround, envelop, adapt, beam around, transmorph, mill the heads, hold 2 dots off.
They can't hit you where you ain't.

HG doesn't have a license for the mech designs themselves and never had. Their marketing license from Tatsunoko is limited by what the Japanese courts ruled in 2002 and in 2006. The Japanese courts ruled that Tatsunoko had the copyrights to the animation for Macross and Southern Cross, but the designs of the characters and mechs in those animations are owned by Studio Nue/Big West.

Also in 2002, Big West issued HG an injunction for blocking all things Macross into the United States. As part of the injunction, HG cannot create any new derivative works of the Macross and Southern Cross designs. This is why HG's Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles replaced the original characters with new ones and none of the new mechs are based on Macross/Southern Cross. The new mech designs are derived from Mospeada's mechs.

Now FASA had a shared license with Twentieth Century Imports over the art that was created by TCI for advertising purposes. TCI, from what can be ascertained, got their license from Big West/Studio Nue to import model kits based on various animations made by Big West/Studio Nue. A key thing about a shared license is that it directly connects FASA to Big West/Studio Nue since it puts FASA in the place of being an original party to TCI's licensing contract.

As it stands now, HG does not have a legal leg to stand on when you factor in the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. Under said convention, the United States and Canada are bound to abide by the copyright laws and decisions of the original nation where the work was created which is Japan. Since Japan already settled the matter of who owns what, all it takes is for PGI or Catalyst Games to take HG to court with their new licensing from Studio Nue/Big West for the art.

Oh one other thing, HG isn't in the greatest of financial situations right now. Their owner is facing huge fines from Italy for being involved in a scam by Italy's Prime Minister on the importation of Paramount properties into Italy. HG also has numerous scam and fraud alerts on consumer protection websites about their real estate practices and have lost a lot of their real revenue.

Their Robotech property sits idle as evidenced by the fact that their webpage for Robotech News hasn't been updated since 2011. Their storefront has a lot of out of stock items especially under the Toys section. A key thing to notice there is that the only Macross item they have for sale is the Zentradi Light Artillery Battle Pod with the rest of them being out of stock. They have plenty of stock for Mospeada mechs which fits due to the injunction.

I honestly have a hard time believing they'll move to two mechs a month because that will diminish milking power of PGI.

Only time I wouldn't be surprised by a 4 mech simul release is if it's for Clans.

At one a month an avid player can about keep up, and if you just get the ones you want, you can keep up for free. At two a month more people will spend real money on the mechs. You can bet the have been doing some number crunching to figure this out with data behind it, but they will go two per month because it will make them more money, not less.

so...anyway...instead of how great pheonix packages seem to be to newer players...i just got a couple games off steam for 15 bucks...

they seem to do a good job of making promises (i.e. coolant flush, 3pv, and delivery)

meanwhile my wallet and brain is taking a break from this...

and to be honest with myself a lot of my feelings are due to impatience...but my brain says "seriously hotfix things...plz?"

AFAIK PGI has the rights to use the original Locus, Shadow Hawk, Thunderbolt and Battlemaster artwork if they want to. The reason those 'mechs don't look like they do in the tech readouts is because PGI uses their own designs for all the 'mechs they create. In theory this should also keep them safe from legal action if they brought in Phoenix Hawks, Marauders etc. but it's considered too much of a risk (and there are some shady legal agreements I don't know much about).

You are right and wrong catylist games has licensed the rights for the artwork for the books and minis but that doesn't translate to pgi being able to use them in game. So while both are battletech both do not have access to the art work

Personally, I am sorta glad. I can respect the desire to the the original designs, but I can't agree with it. Looking at the really old artwork for some of the Mechs they look really... simple, to put it mildly.

The MWO Atlas, for example, is waaaay better looking than "old school" Atlas.

Please consider keeping this up until.... say... October. At least.

I'm furloughed until the end of September, and I will have a very hard time justifying dropping $80 on anything extra to my wife while simultaneously making 20% less money.

But I'm really, really interested in picking up that Battlemaster.

This may be a stupid question, but still I'll ask it ^_^
Wanted to know if the price, of the overlord preorder pack for example, is only 80$, or after 15.10 when it comes out I'll have to pay some kind of 2nd part of the amount of the price. I'm asking because I bought other types of preorders, where you need to pay on 2 parts, not that a thing like that is written anywhere in the description of the packs, but still.

Actually, the Monster doesn't look like any mech in Battletech. The closest would be the Stone Rhino, but there are substantial differences.

Robotech is a bastardization of three separate anime series which are Genesis Mospeada, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, and Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross. Macross Frontier and Macross Zero do not have any relation to Robotech. Harmony Gold frankensteined Robotech with the original Macross, so the original version of the Monster appeared very briefly in certain episodes. HG does not have the rights to the Monster's design since that it owned by Studio Nue/Big West as HG's license was from Tatsunoko.

No, the PP is the full price. Pay $80 (or 60, 40, or 20 as appropriate) now and you get everything on the 15th automagically. No additional charge.
