Oh I have... but I try not to lump bad sales with bad decision making at the higher levels (like balance, or the common courtesy to apologize for a incredibly late monthly dev post).

Then again, they are all kinda looking like the same at this point.

Fair enough then, I figured that would be the case, since I knew I'd seen your name in other threads that were often more provocative than this one.

If someone pays for this that is good for both PGI and for us gamers. PGI needs money to keep developing the game and the fact that they are finding ways to get it, without forcing us to do so through P2W is a really good thing.
Quit whining about sale and moneygrab. If the local store has a sale on fruit or whatever noone is forcing you to buy an apple. No member of PGI or IGP has been at my house forcing me to spend money.
They are just selling a product, not robbing us.
If you are over 18 and qq'ing, you still have no real life exp.points because this is how everything works in life. Nothing is free.
F2P is misleading, because if you don't use RM, someone else is basically paying for you, so that you're able to play for free.
Dev's kids need food too:D

Daniel

How is it P2W if your not getting anything special from it other than the fact you can play the mechs early? Wait, does this mean the dragon slayer you cannot fit AC20 in which is a Hero mech with bonus is P2W?

I dont see any advantage MC equipped players are going to have.. ..ooh look you have the new 85 tonne victor early?!?! Here is my 100 tonne Atlas about to smash your puny 85 tonne assault..

P2W QQ fail. Facepalm.

Actually, lots of people complained about sensible stuff like the utter lack of communication from PGI about what's up with this game and why no July CDU was not released without any explantion, but I don't see you commenting about that.

could be he didn't see a fault with those particular complaints, only the ones he addressed.

This has got to be the worst special.

If you actually commit to buying 2 Victors and the DS early, you would have spent effectively $50 on 3 mechs.

Even an early bird special has an actual discount... every freaking store in the world does this. I don't see why PGi's version should be the exception (unless you like just giving money away, which is completely up to you).

You can't keep doing this like that and expect no blacklash at some point...

If people want to buy the mechs early its their call..

..if you dont want to spend the money then just wait a whole week..

Not rocket science.

why do all of the newer mechs have so many weapons on the arms?

Can we get more mechs with a mix of different weapon slots in the torsos(right, left, and center).

bah I bough a victor to go with my slayer hero mech. you know why? because I buy mechs with mc creds anyway. and besides 3 ac2's and twin errppc is so much freaking win! also you broke people need to quit whining about pay to win. everything is pay to win to yall. jeez. please explain how charging for an early release of a STANDARD mech is any kind of pay to win? you do realize you can buy the mech for like 8 dollars right? that the cost of a big mac and fries. dev's got to eat to you know.

I've likely put more money into this game than you have, Charlie, but that doesn't mean I'm going to spend it foolishly.

There's nothing special about this offer at all, but in the first three matches I dropped in this evening, I saw a total of four Victor standard variants, so there are plenty of suckers out there, and I for one am thankful for them. Keep funding the game, guys. :(

How is the Victor Pay to Win? What does it do that other mechs can? How can I solo them in my Cataphract without Jump Jets?

Don't spoil it, he thinks he's being clever with glib 1-liners. Gameplay wise, it's just an 80-tonner.
Business-wise, it's how you should run a FTP game, so that the vast, silent majority can keep playing for free off the back of other people paying for them (sorry, there is no nice way to phrase it, that's the business model - and this coming from someone who hasn't made a purchase since this time last year at Founders' time).

There are things flawed in this game, things that would take such little effort to change, but make such a big impact on the gameplay - but the thing that needs change most, that will never change, is the people who play it.

In other words, too few people bought the dragon slayer, because it's not a boat?

See now your on the whole mech department thing. I was on the sale thing and your need to buy everything. I was going to start calling up your friends and family for a Victor buying intervention because you sounded like you needed help. They hired more people and the programmers and Director need to be the ones working on the background nonsense. Do we need more mechs? Nope not really but we'll take em. I'm with you on wanting some fixes in regards to damage/Convergence etc but thats all programmer nonsense. Most of us use standard c-bills for mech purposes so what they are doing isn't bad as it generates more revenue. I am more frustrated over them pushing back all the other crap to be honest. One thing they may see is regradless of how much complaining we do we still pay and play. I know I have. This last weekend was probably the most frustrated I've been in a year so I took a day off. If im still frustrated tonight I'll take a week off.

no you won't.

Bet you wont make it 3 days.

I'm not really arguing about getting it early. Money spent is one's prerogative.

The actual issue is that there's not an actual sale. If you wanted to debut something, you would want to sell it at a nice discount, so that the early buyers don't feel scammed. There's nothing wrong with being an early adopter... but since there is no sale, a mistake is actually going to cost you real money.

Unlike early adopters of new stuff, the regular Victor's value doesn't depreciate (it's infinite in terms of the virtual supply). If PGI had even a basic sale of 15% or so, it wouldn't really hurt sales of it in the future (which will probably be @ 20-30, even 50% of the regular price). At least then it wouldn't be the obvious money grab that it currently is being valued by others.

Ironically, the DS is a better boat than the rest of the Victors.

There is just no sound reasoning for changing the way the mechs are released. I mean why change now people have been saving CBills for the Victor variants since the Dragon Slayer was released last week, and now they release the variants this week only for MC. Everybody else will have to wait until next week, these are not hero or champion mechs they are normal variants of a chassis. They should be available to everyone like all other chassis have been before when released.

why?

Just saying they SHOULD be, is not the same as having a valid argument. They FREE Victors are still being made available on the 16th, as promised. This in no way impacts what people who were not planning to spend IRL money on them do, so please, please, do tell how they should attempt to make money?

Did they break a promise by doing so?
Are they somehow P2W?
Are they diverting precious resources from "Serious intrawebz gamez fixes"?

Since the answer to ALL the above is a resounding NO, I fail to see anything remotely looking like an issue.

this is honestly the first good marketing move they've made in a long while, just goes to show you that the haters are always going to hate even if the best thing since sliced bread were to happen to this game

NOW this part, I can agree with. Nothing wrong with the "early Bird" part.... but I do think they seriously missed the boat by not doing it at say, 25% off. I can PROMISE you they would have doubled the sales of IRL Victor purchases this week, and gotten several people who probably would NOT have bought normally, to do so.

Really disappointed... I'm not stupid enough to pay MC for what are CBill variants at what is an exuberant price. So the question is why release the Victor for MC early? Are you really that low on cash? Or the weekend sale didn't net you enough overhead profit?

I'll wait till next week (at least then I can change their colour), then show people porbably how to play the Victor... until then I'll continue to run the DS into the ground for more CBills (380XL's ain't cheap)!

PS. Anyone back calculated their cbill value based off the MC yet?

EDIT: Double posted me -.-

Smart business. I explained how and why many times already.

People ALWAYS buy them anyhow. Always. (Why, who knows? More money than time? Poor impulse control? I bought a 4SP on a sale once, just cuz I was bored. *shrugs*).

More of these will buy now, because the wait will positively KILL them. Especially seeing other people using them. And many people, who ordinarily would NOT, will, for the same reason.

A smart company (verdict is still out on PGI, but just saying) doesn't need to be going broke to figure out ways to generate EXTRA revenue. IN fact, that would be the sign of a poorly run company to wait.

Wow, people have short memories. A few months ago, the Highlander fell into this same off-patch cycle. They released the Heavy Metal first. They waited two weeks before giving people access to the other variants. People complained. This time they decide to allow limited access a week early and people are complaining. I'm not PGI white knight, but dam people, a week is not gonna kill you. Some people have the MC to burn, let them. OR you could buy some yourself and get the dam mech already. They have a cycle for mech releases. Like it or not they are sticking to it.

I'm not buying it for MC. I can wait a week and feast on them for now.
