Yes we don't want any sort of rock, paper, scissors. Nerf everything so it all have the same damage, but different colour, and just have every weapon chain fire. Yes we need death by a million paper cuts.

You keep running your table top 1mg, 1 small pulse, 1 medium laser, 1 SRM 4, 1 LRM 5, and AC 2 build.

no problems running a quad ppc build here. just have to space yur shots smartly.

No, it means you might actually have to fire your missiles tactically instead of just mashing one key. group each side, fire them half and half... they track better and its much better heat management As for your highlander build chain fire your LRMs...try using jump jets to maintain target when the enemy tries to duck. Yes, you might need to pick up a little better gaming skill than hitting left mouse button and then once in a while right mouse button... it's really not game ruining or very much of an inconvenience to anyone who actually knows how to play this game.

Pick up your socks.

Good patch, nice changes, keep them coming.

I love the heat system extension. Short of it not being transparent enough at the moment or new-player, it's a very nice gameplay addition.

Yes, the ERLL, LL, LPL heat stack doesn't really do anything - as already noted, no sane people alpha those together to begin with. It's being done is more of a question of principle. Hardly anyone's affected, why complain?

Same for LRMs and SRMs. That's not the last thing that will be done to those weapons. SRMs will get the rest of their fixes soon, and I'm sure most of us do not wish for a triumphant return of the SplatCat of old.

2xPPC + Gauss, ah, so many complaints... A projectile speed change will be coming. Yes, we know we want some convergence. Sadly, that one probably isn't going to happen soon.

In the end though, let's keep the constructive suggestions running and push down the whine.

So, basically, the heat cap did nothing but add a lot of convoluted *****, and the proper balance changes to the weapons we were asking for are the only things actually making a difference.

Surprise!

Yeah, I know...but that one dude must have OCD something fierce. I never even noticed the smoke column, nor thought of it as out of place or mismatched.

And anyway, if we're talking about fixing things that are the wrong size, how about fixing the freakin' Stalker; how in all that's holy is it smaller than a Catapult?!

If you take off the big box ears off a Catapult, the torso portion is no bigger than the Stalker. Also, the Stalker is like a bullet train on it's sdie or 90 degree view. Can't miss those torsos.

I know this post is wasted on most of you, but you should consider yourselves lucky.

In the original fictional universe for BattleTech/Mechwarrior heat was a MUCH bigger issue. Mechwarriors did not run around repeatedly alpha striking, not if they didn't want their mech to blow up, shutdown in front of an enemy, or broil themselves alive. Shots were carefully taken and heat was NOT something you could afford to lose track of.

(Though I'll admit, armor was also thinner, so you didn't have to alpha strike repeatedly to finally kill someone. )

What the developers are doing is not so far off from the original idea long before this game existed. Heat management is critical. Being a skilled player is not just about having good aim or god forbid, the biggest alpha strike.

t's about having self control and thinking strategically. Being able to engage in combat at multiple ranges and being able to survive one encounter, with enough armor and low enough heat to be able to engage in the next.

Sure you can alpha strike that guy in the chest and get a kill, but now you can't fire for a while, you might even be shutdown, and any mech that comes along has a distinct advantage over you. They can keep firing, and you cannot.

If they would just bring back rearm and repair, it would matter again if you died and people would not just kamikaze trying to get a kill like they do now.

The Patch Notes say SRM 4's and 6's will share the same characteristics when calculating whether or not to apply ghost heat, yet they have different max Alpha's. How will this be resolved, will firing 1 SRM 6 and 3 SRM 4's be penalized or not?

Yes. so will 2xSRm6 and 2xSRM4. Just set up a chain fire on your A1, C4 or JM6-A, and your Awesome (drawing a blank on variant).

View Postgwarm, on 30 July 2013 - 08:43 AM, said:

LL, ERLL, LPL will now share their max alpha limit.

Seriously? Really?

Who thought of this? Who decided it made any sense or was a good idea? What exactly are you trying to accomplish by doing this? Is there a single person who fires an ERLL and LPL at the same time?

Then no one will have any problems with this configuration then. Why complain about it.

Calling it like I see it, :)

PGI should apply the WTF per minute principle to all of their game decisions. Post the patch notes and use the wtf per minute ratio to determine if it goes live or not.

Here is some constructive critisism.....LET PEOPLE BUILD THEIR MECHS HOW THEY WANT.....some of us figured out how to deal with splat cats just like we've learned how to deal with LRM spammers and long range snipers.....so why place restrictions on how someone can gear up their mech. All that is happening is one step forward 12 steps back. I myself know alot of people who refuse to play MWO now because of all this stuipidness and I personally am glad I have not yet activated my founders time and will not be purchaseing anything else so long as they keep making stupid patches like this which continuously make you purchase more and more loadouts and regear your mech because of all of the changes rather than gear and play your mech as you like...

Plus don't think that people will not find ways to exploit every possible variation they can dream up in order to work around all of this mess. So in the end you will accomplish nothing but **** off the masses and drive more and more people away from the game because they can't play it how they want to.

Well, I really enjoyed my 4 LL Stalker. It wasn't overpowered, but it was effective. But now that I can't run that anymore without a penalty, I guess its 2 ER PPC/Gauss?

Also the SRMs are now really confusing. If you're going to link all SRMs together, can we make the limit the same on all of them?

How about 2LL and 2PPC? Is the catch phrase / talking points now 2PPC/Gauss.

View PostRoland, on 30 July 2013 - 10:39 AM, said:

The LL/ERLL/LPL change seems really strange.

I mean, this brings up two questions in my mind:
1) Who was actually using LPL's? The correct answer is: No one who was remotely competitive, because the LPL is currently trash
2) Even if you were using LPL's, why on earth would you pair them in an alpha strike with a LL? The range difference on those two weapons is huge.. The firing time is different. Those weapons simply no not complement each other at all.

It just strikes me as really weird that such a change would even be bothered with. Either there is some kind of secret aspect to the LPL which I am totally unaware of (which is possible), or it demonstrates a point of confusion on PGI's part in terms of how such weapons are used.. or really, how any weapons are used in their game.

Well, only reason is because if you are going to link the PPCs/ERPPCs, LRMs, and SRMs together, might as well treat the Large Lasers the same even if no one is using them.

Well looks like my premium time kept on seeping away, good way to utterly undo the whole weekend sale.

On the patch, I had a lot of stuttering for awhile but that seems to have cleared up, on most maps however I have this weird static like scratchy sound as if my volume was cranked too high in the right ear of my headset. Doing various sound tests right now but so far dosnt appear to be on my end, no other game/audio program seems to replicate the effect. Anyone else had this issue? its driving me batty while playing.

Sigh. Seriously devs? Why the heck do you keep making these incredibly stupid changes?

PPC and LL/ER LL yes it makes sense. LPL is NOT the same weapon as an LL. SRM 6 and LRM20 are NOT the same weapon as smaller missile launching versions. There is *NO* reason to link them in heat penalty because they are NOT THE SAME GDAMN WEAPON SYSTEM.

The changes to LRM effectively makes ANY lrm loadout USELESS. Congratulations.
SRM changes make SRM users fire it in chain fire.. which makes the damn thing useless compared to firing a medium laser instead. Congratulations.

This is an idiotic change. Go back, put some more work on it and at least have the DECENCY of making penalties that make sense.

(whole bunch of other rage was here)

Or maybe as a pilot you should focus on more than one weapon on your mech. Just thought.

My LRM "boat" is the HBK-4J, I have 2 LRM15s on it. I'm not even a little bit effected by this. Oh and I have 4 medium lasers on it. I don't over heat, and when I run out of LRM ammo I can do something besides plod off to cap a base.

Also: The heat scaling isn't for when you have SRMs and LRMs together, you read that wrong. All LRMs count towards the heat scale as a group. All SRMs the same but if you had say, 2 LRMs and 2 SRMs you have no heat scaling to worry about.

How does it hurt newbies?

Here's what will happen: A newbie will join the game, buy a mech and fiddle with it. They'll think "4 PPCs, heck yea!" They'll drop with it and get eaten up because they crippled themselves with heat and constant alpha striking. They'll go back to the drawing board and readjust until they find a build they like. Everybody then has fun. Where's the downside?

I agree going down to a lower heat cap would be much less convoluted and accomplish the same principle.
