Considering the TRO version looks like this:

And it's one of the few 3050 era non-unseen 55 ton mechs, I think we should count ourselves lucky.

Specially the legs...

Yup.

The head bugs me the most. Everyone can call it an ugly chimp, but it had character. Looks like a generic trooper now.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kintaro

For those who don't know much about it.

55 tons. 275 engine.

KTO-19

1x NARC
1x LRM5
2x SRM6
2x ML

KTO-18

Same as above, but replace NARC with a third SRM6.

KTO-19b

Switches to an XL and DHS, upgrades the LRM5 to an LRM15, and adds CASE.

KTO-20

Switches to DHS, swaps the NARC for a LL.

19 and 19b are Star League, 18 is Davion, and 20 is Kurita.

We're looking at a real missile carrier here, with a couple lasers for backup. Should be interesting.

At 55 tons I doubt it.

Woah! When I heard of the code references, I wasn't all that excited, though I knew our good Alex would make it look epic. Now, though, looking at it, this thing looks awesome! I think I will get one.

Also, I dearly hope for a ballistic variant.

Meh. Looks like a Victor that shrank in the dryer.
For a 55 ton missile-heavy mech, I was hoping for the Dervish.

Apparently, there are some folks hoping for the Panther. ...A mech about as small as a Spider or Commando, that comes with a PPC and a lot of armor. But, it would go the same speed as a Cataphract, with half the weight.

I keep hoping for a Marauder, but I'm not holding my breath.
A King Crab might be interesting.
Kintaro? Meh.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but no where does it say this is the august mech. They could have been forced to announce it because someone dig the files out of the test server. The NGNG post on Facebook said their was only a hero and two variants found. Maybe someone just let some files slip onto the server by accident.

Cause they already have two variants and the hero mech rendered with in game resources and the hero mech was not only named (Golden Boy IIRC) but had its own colors and camo. Thats about as done as it gets.

Well, the Royal -19b is obviously a non-starter. The -19 is an interesting choice, given that only ComStar had it in 3050.

Given how I've been enjoying my Commando, I'm looking forward to the missile swarm of the -18, myself...

Love it! I'm happy to see another mech that never really had any love in previous titles.

All the recent mechs have been too humanoid, it's starting to get difficult to tell what you're facing out there =/

I always preferred mech designs like the raven, catapult, jagermech, and such... I like to know what I'm facing at a glance rather than looking for a specific identifying feature such as the quickdraw's head antenna. I'm not saying it's all that hard now, but with even more samey looking mechs coming out it's only getting harder.

It'd be a real shame to mistake a quickdraw and an even worse shame to mistake a highlander for the kintaro...
