I am usually a PUG player and also agree that the fun of the game is to kill other mechs, get as many kills as you can and deal as most damage as you possibly can but my point is....

If your team is already losing by 6 or 7, why would you hide and waste people's time until time runs off?

I understand that sometimes when you are in that position of losing by A LOT people hide to wait a few moments before they attempt a cap but some people simply hide when they feel that they are too damaged and could die! -.-

If you know that KDR is an useless stat, then why would you care about it?!

If you are a player that cares about your ELO then you should worry about the insignificant KDR.

When I see this happening, I simply call off his/her position for the enemy top kill him
(if in my team) And I dont care if get reported for that.

I respect the way people play but I hate when people hide instead of helping the team.

But many still regard KDR as the most important thing ever! For some reason.

The only hiding one really need to do, imho, is in Conquest when the cap is nearly finished.

Well, you can always get 6 kills at the end and come back from 2-5 like I do...

*waves*

You have to earn my slavage!

*runs and hides*

If you want the last light to help you win a match, Dont leave most of the enemy with full armor VS your last light at the end of the match.

I hear what you say, but it's still wrong to hide rather than fight.

If I'm in a Light and last man standing, I will always try to split the enemy up, and get as many kills as possible before I go down fighting.

Sometimes I surprise myself and the enemy by taking out their remaining three or four players single-handedly. Those are the most enjoyably epic MWO wins of all.

So, by fighting to the end, you are not only 'doing the right thing', you are also giving yourself a chance to have an epic victory.

By hiding, you are just annoying everyone else in the game and wasting their time.

Remember, just because you're outnumbered because the enemy team was killing your team, that your allies weren't just standing there looking blanky at the enemy, they were actually dealing damage, make sure their damage actually means something. You might just turn out to be a badass that kills most of the enemy team. You will probably get a few people saying "thank you" for finishing off that guy that they almost killed, but died before they could.

Even if you are in no codition to fight (little to no weapons left, or little armor), you should either try to cap, or try to lure enemies away from your team by distracting them, or just spot for your team (even if there's no lrms, information is ammunition).

Like Zphyr said, you should only hide if you're going for a cap win in conquest.

most of the time I would agree with you but a few times I've been pissed off enough at my teams incompetence that I've went off and hid, especially if I know the enemy is already capping the base. If im the only one who was doing any damage and my team nearly cored me with friendly fire, you know what, screw them. they can wait. I'm not a total k/d *****(I'll gladly sacrifice myself if it means the team will win) but i do enjoy keeping track of how well i do, and if your sheer incompetence is going to ruin my fun i dont really mind if i waste a minute or two of your life.

call me selfish if you want but thats how i feel.

Then again those situations are few and far between and most of the time ill go out in a blaze of glory trying to take out the most damaged mechs with me.

Never hid and ran the clock down but if it's 0 - 7 and I'm the last mech (because I was capping bases : / ) I'll either make a suicide run or just dc depending on map size.

KDR is only sorta meaningful if you purely pug. Though really if it's under 1 you're probably not that great...

How can anyone turn down the opportunity to go out in a blaze of glory, like the guy in the MechWarrior 4 intro?

Whenever I play, I see that everyone on the team is dieing. I have the chance to hide and survive but I usually just charge in to try and save them ^.^

What's funny, is those who do go and hide to keep their KDR high-are usually the ones who only jump into a fight to try and nail a kill. And will mostly stay out of the fighting otherwise. Basically vultures, I noticed.

Had a Hunchback who just sat outside a 3v3 and waited until the three lights were on red CT before jumping into to finish them off with his AC10. >_>

It's a little disheartening.

Edit: And he extended the match by atleast 8 minutes due to him powering down, I actually was happy when a Jenner found him and finished him off.

i once hid when i was the last guy on my team. I had just killed a base capper and i had no armor and only was only surviving as a zombie mech (lost my arms in the fight) so i powered down in the cap circle to make them think i was dead and to stop them capping it.... That was pretty funny when they couldnt work out why it wasnt capping (until the smart one killed me)

I dont even look at my KDR. I will say if we are down by that much im going to hide. The enemy team has to earn my salvage!!! Just because your easy does not mean I have to be. If you want to duel me one at a time until I kill all of you Im down with that. Otherwise play smarter not harder and you wont have to deal with this much.

Oh, teams have blundered into guns many a time, and it's why I've sometimes spared my light 'Mech the repair bill.

This implied "warrior code" goes both ways, one of the tenets being "don't play stupidly."

And, too, on big maps, giving the other team merry chase is a lot of fun. No one's denying me that, especially when they've gone and gotten their ride crashed.

I just got 3 kills in a quickdraw 4h, but only after having a red CT and going to hide on the side of the ship in Forest Colony.

It's called picking your fights. You hide, knowing you can do more damage at a distance, acting as a distraction away from the main fight and doing more damage with greater team value than a charge would ever accomplish.

Just mopping up kills or sparing yourself with a long wait to others, however, is uncool.

You are selfish. Saying ''that's how I feel'' doesn't excuse it.

Your k/d is already meaningless - to yourself and to others - if you distort it by hiding at the end of losing matches.

So man up, stop deluding yourself, and try to get a kill before the game ends, regardless of how hard that is..

Remember, if you do kill someone going down in a blaze of glory then everyone on your team who ever damaged that Mech will get a kill assist. By being selfish and wimping out, you are denying all of them the opportunity for CBills and XP, as well as yourself.
