That's $80 for TWELVE mechs. That's about $6.50ish per mech, not counting the free mech bays you receive with each. Not so bad anymore is it?

This is exactly what drives the F2P model. If everyone could get everything they wanted without paying real money, how does the game continue to survive?
Third: It's not JUST mechs you're getting for the $80. You also receive 90 days of premium time, 120 if you ordered early (a signigicant value in iteself) and 4 cockpit items and the forum badge.
Finally:
The non-Phoenix variants will all be available for C-bill purchase eventually.

The game is free to play. That means you don't have to pay if you don't want to and yet can still play the game. However, free to play does not mean access to all content free of charge. (Look at Dungeons and Dragons online and others where premium races, classes and content all cost extra). There will be some content that can only be obtained by using real money. This is part of the income model for free to play games, whether this is bobbleheads, colours, mechs or even access to premium maps at some point in time.
In addition, people have to want that content for it to be actually working as intended. Your post demonstrates that it is working, there are folks who want the content and are willing to pay the rate asked, those who want it but are unwilling to pay the current price and those who do not want the content. They have a good idea of the first group from sales numbers while posts like yours generate some information on the second group.

Unfortunately, while everything you say is totally correct, this is the direction of the industry these days. I think this model is really just the PC gaming industry gasping for air in the sea of console profits.

This is the best deal you will find in a game like this. You are dropping a lot of grinding and getting a lot of content with this purchase... so... there really is not a leg to stand on here.

Fact is console gaming was all there was in the past, SNES anyone? Pc gaming has been steadily and sometimes times quickly out pacing consoles. The sales of Skyrim says alot. I forget exactly the numbers but it was like 8 to 1 ratio for pc gaming sales vrs console. Mass effect not sure the numbers but it is eay to guess. And online gaming in general is owned by pc gaming. But consoles have alot of muscle so who knows. I doubt pc's are on the outs though.

I am under the impression that many players of MWO are a little older and a little more established, where $80 for the top level package of a game they enjoy isn't really too hard to swallow. I understand full well that not everyone sees it this way, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

I can afford $80 but I don't see the value in it at this point. If $80 got me CW, 2-3 new game modes, plus what is in the package already I might be able to justify it. But for me the game is getting stale due to the repetitive nature and I am frustrated with many other aspects of the game.
Frankly I don't understand the logic behind thinking PP Overlord is a good deal. Is it because they charge $40 for one hero mech, so getting 12 for $80 is a relative deal? But it is not really 12, it is 3 variants of 4 mechs and I don't have any interest in playing most of them.
Mechwarrior 4 had something like 25 mechs when it came out along with a single player campaign, more maps, and more game modes. It was $50 back 12 years ago and similar AAA games go for $60 now, so Overlord looks like a good deal as long as you don't compare it to what you got from previous MW titles. Also, I think about $80 and what else I could spend that on and there are a lot more attractive options than PP to me. I can think of 10 things off the top of my head I would much rather spend that much money doing.
If the game were closer to how it was planned to be at launch I would be much more likely to drop some more cash on it, but as it stands now I don't see myself getting $80 worth of value from PP. If you are having fun and think it is worth $80 then I hope you enjoy it and get your money's worth, but I am not spending anymore money until there is much more of a game.

In his defense, neither does PGI. This is the worst monetization model i've seen in years. They are trying to monetize off a grind fest, but all that means is your players who can't play often are forced to subsidize those who can. That alone is an unsustainable model, and REAL game studio with a REAL mathematician/analytic department can tell you that.
The effect is doubled by the fact it is premium TIME, not premium matches. They are selling a way around the grind to people who don't have time to grind. However, that means they don't have time to use the Premium Time they purchased as well, rendering it entirely useless. Who wants to pay for 24 hours of premium time a day, when they only play 1 hour a day? Amateur design, nuff said.
