Not that it's an excuse. A business is a business and if it's not giving its customers what they want they're less likely to spend money and it's more likely to get low reviews. Like 5s and 6s. It just is what it is.

Not that I want to start an argument or anything, but were you expecting transformable mechs? Spaceship battles and Skyrim-esque dungeon crawling? This is Battletech, mech on mech focus. So to an extent, the game WILL be kind of like this for the next X years. The only thing that will change is that they will add new stuff like bases and asymetric warfare and new maps and new mechs and new paint schemes. That's all.
If you expect a game to be totally transformed from what it was 2 years ago, I would say that it's a little unrealistic. What I find to be very realistic is that content delivery needs to be done at a much quicker pace than it is done now. The only thing that is anthing remotely resembling quick right now is the mech delivery and even that is a little slow. CW, DX11, Clans and all other bells and whistles should have been done long ago.
I don't expect the game to be different from what it was at open beta launch, I just expect it to have more attractions. To put it bluntly, I don't go to an ammusment parc to experience new things, I go there to experience the rides, what I expect is that they add new ones as the years go by...
???? uhm can you please explain to me where I wanted or expected anything like what you just described? I simply stated that there has been no new rides (to use your analogy) added to this amusement park in 2 years. The park opened, the owners said hey, we will have this cool new ride to you by this date while you are allowed to enjoy the park during this exclusive private opening, then it was well we will have this brand new ride for you 90 days after we open to the public, then it was never heard of again, then nearly two years later the owners say, hey here's some slides on what this cool new ride we promised you two years ago is going to be and we will get it to you in 6 months or so.
If you don't expect a game to advance or be different from a beta product to final release maybe I am just misunderstanding the words and meanings of the words beta and final released product? This is still beside the point. I could care less what they call it whether it be closed beta, open beta, final release, etc. The simple fact is that core content like this has been ignored in favor of other features such as 3pv and ghost heat while things like
Lobbies
In game VOIP
Matchmaking
CW
Factions
Role Warfare
and other key pillars that were originally pitched to customers to help sale a product are completely ignored. You look at any poll on these forums and things like CW and Lobbies are at the top of the list for what players want implemented. I don't bash others for enjoying the game, but I'm not going to stand there and be told to just shut up and go away because I don't agree with their opinion of the game. My opinion is just as valuable as theirs and it still baffles me why someone who enjoys playing the game could care less what my opinion and thoughts on the game are when it comes to things like this. Most seem more intent on name calling or giving a justification of the delays, or just flat out saying I enjoy the game so you should to because your opinion is invalidated by mine.

While I agree with a lot of your points (every time I hear people talk about suing I just sink into my chair and cover my head with my hands) there are also much smaller studios who put out content much more quickly. A great example is Natural Selection 2- they have a seven-man team and no publisher, so money is incredibly tight for them. Funny thing though, they manage to come out with major new patches every few months that add quite a lot of content to the game, and they went from alpha to launch in a couple years just like MWO- but alpha was a buggy unplayable mess like any alpha should be, and NS2 is a slick, professional game that looks and plays just as well as any triple-a multiplayer shooter. If the team behind NS2 can do it with 1/7 the people and a fraction of the money, I don't see why we've gotten almost no content since going into open beta here- especially given that the devs are using a commercial game engine that is designed for quick game iteration.
Yeah, I hear you. Honestly, I don't think suing is a real possibility or even a good solution, I'm just trying to offer alternatives to incessantly flaming a developer who has, at this point, proven that they can't meet deadlines and we shouldn't expect anything more than "Soon".
"Soon" was a BioWare trademark during TOR development too, and not a lot of those promises will ever materialize despite them investing hundreds of millions in that game. My only point here is that a lot of this rage is like screaming at a brick wall, and the only people that suffer from this is the community that still does play the game, whether our hopes will ever be fulfilled or not.
For now, the game is fun to me while lacking depth, more fun than the same rehashed shooters many people have been happily gobbling up on consoles for nigh a decade now.
Could (and should) PGI do better? I think almost everyone here agrees that the answer is yes. I also agree that some small developers manage to churn out content against all odds. This definitely doesn't seem to be one of them. We can do without the forum trolls spewing hate all over the forums 24/7 though - especially the ones not even playing the game actively. At this point, give it a rest. PGI does not seem to be responding to your actions. Move along, folks, move along.

I'm not saying 'I told you so,' but I totally told you so.
maybe I missed a post or something, but I have no context for what you're trying to say here...
are you saying 3rd person does or does not have a huge advantage? are you saying that the tournament didn't happen....I'm lost.

Then I'm just not going to show up but instead stay home and eat candy while watching TV. Maybe I'll show up next year, maybe I'll just swing by their house in July and act surprised when they don't have candy and punch waiting for me. It'll be AWESOME.
Teasing aside I really appreciate the presentation that was given (though the fact that a player had to put up for the rest of us to see a day after the event.... really?) in terms of the info it provided. I hope it turns out well.

Just my 2 cents though. Probably will have my head bitten off by some forum troll.

Well, you didn't see anyone using 3PV because they announced that 3PV was disabled for the tournament, which got huge cheers and applause from the crowd.

Uh... The event was in the 12vs12 mode where 3PV is not available....

I hope so, it would be nice to actually see the progression finally but I'm still skeptical. 3pv still has potential for exploitation even if it wasn't used there but that's neither here nor there

I don't disagree with you that it does have potential to be exploited, however, it's not going to be a simple thing to do that, people are going to have to try really hard to break it.
Generally speaking Russ seemed excited at how things are going. So it's left me feeling optimistic about the whole situation.

I'm saying they banned third person, because it's OP. I'm saying there were no phoenix mechs for the special match, like the defense force pretended.

The Blackjack....er..... Centurion Round was very cool and a GREAT way to reveal the newest (and most awesome and ambitious one to date) Map. Was kinda hoping the finals would be fought on it, but kinda a cool twist the way they did it.
And as a guy who went from uninvited to getting to actually play in the Tournament as an alternate MW, I had a pretty good time, even if we in Team Phranken couldn't quite pull it out in the end.
And hey, Russ, Bryan, remember those two words I gave you guys to regain community good will.
URBAN
MECH
Cheers!

Have you not played online games often? lol Seriously, people will go out of their way to exploit things like this. Also it's really not that hard. Scout sits behind a hill safe from detection and harm while using 3pv to call out enemy positions and mech types to teammates. it's actually pretty easy to exploit for unfair advantages that were not its intended use.
I hope you are genuinely correct about the CW though.

How different is that from a scout behind enemy lines relaying intel to his team while powered down and unseen? Based on your comment, my hiding/scouting places are still safe to use.

Umm.... think about it.
But it really isn't an issue. In 12 mans, it's 1PV only. In PuG games, the only advantage it would give you is the ability to communicate movement to the rest of the team, but since there is no communication in PuG matches, the theoretical advantage doesn't exist.
