Which is why you will never see them announce anything for future plans again. They've learned their lessons. There is definitely such a thing as too much communication.

That is the wrong lesson to take from this.

1. SAY what you are INTENDING to DO
2. DO what you SAY you are GOING to DO
3. IF plans CHANGE, ANNOUNCE plans have changed and WHY
4. Then, repeat from step 1.

"Uh, well, don't say anything and then they can't call us a liar!" is... a frustrating and telling response.

One method of managing your community would have hell on your forums.

The other, which they went with, has complaints to BBB, CPBC, and every outlet of social media or website with a comments section and an article on your product fills up with raging nerds.

Take your pick.

They did 1. They realized it was a mistake and had to change their mind.

They could have communicated it better, but it doesn't make them a bunch of liars, nor does it mean the game has been destroyed or they turned their back on the community. That's just rhetoric.

So the proper course of action is:

1) Never provide specifics about what you're planning on doing.

Launch is around the corner and you gullable players are still doing this lost cause.

Stop wasting are time and go back to playing MW 4.

Cause no one really cares.

YES PGI!, do not TELL US ANY DETAILS on your plans for the future, instead keep it all a secret and just DUMP IT ON OUR HEADS one Tuesday and see how we react, this is clearly the best way to conduct business!

Yes, that's the spirit now everyone!
Tell over 1000 (1299 to be exact) players to **** off and go play a game that barely operates on a system because you don't agree with them, screw them for being sensible and civilized, we don't need their type anymore!

I disagree.

First: Had the vision merely changed and they had intended to give us the split queues then changed their mind, that communication would have - not should have but Would Have - been addressed prior to the patch. I assure you PGI "had a plan" even if it was a poorly thought out one so far as the split queues. My theory is they had decided to drop it, knew it would go over like a lead balloon, and figured they would do it like that scene in Mad Max where the Road Warrior is going to pull the arrow out of that guy's leg and they count to 3 but Max pulls it on 2 to get it over with :D

Second: Split queues were a hard-won compromise over months and months of discussions and assurances. Forgiving and Forgetting is nice and all, but this was not an oversight. Or, at least, if it WAS an oversight, I am even more flabbergasted and appalled. At leas the "get it over with" theory seems like there is someone at the helm; "Oh, yeah, we forgot we had promised split queues and introduced the patch without them... oops..." is... well, I'd hate to see a restaurant or financial firm run like this, yes?

Lastly: Gimped 3PV does not give the 3PV players what they want / need, and only ****** off the anti-3PV crowd without a split queue. Lose-lose.

Now again, this is all opinion and I could be wrong or in the minority or whatever. But, if this wasn't deliberate, it was beyond stupid from a business and management standpoint.

I disagree with your disagreement. :D

Imo, this isnt a cruise ship or a restaurant were people's itineraries are hanging on every management decision. Instead, we are watching sausage being made. Its ugly, it’s messy. The vision is there but actual development is a crazy crunch. It’s the end product that matters.

That said, PGI did make the decision to engage the community in early beta which means they opened themselves to player flaming by setting expectations with informal commitments. "Never say never". When you engage the community, you have to keep up with a clear set of goals and clear reasons why goals changed. That I can agree was not kept up with. Did they intentionally pull the crossbow bolt out at 2 instead of 3? Possibly. Why spend what could be a long effort to win over more players when 3PV was already supported by test players and it was going to be implemented anyway no matter what.

Forgive and forget? Like I said, the end product is what matters. I was never offended by the changes in the first place so I don’t feel lied to or betrayed. I expect game development to have twists and turns. Beta is for testing and tuning incomplete features. 3PV is just one more feature I want balanced more toward gimp / newb training mode.

You guys should be proud, but there is nothing to see here:

Petitions / Call Outs
Any MechWarrior who-
  • Generates petitions or biased Suggestion polls; or
  • Demands response or acknowledgement of their posts or concerns; or
  • Negatively calls-out one or more staff members; or

They're rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I'm gonna bow out of this popsicle stand for good, but I'll be watching this brilliant failure (MWO, not the community) from afar.

I think more people spend time on the forums then playing the game. I find it amazing how much people love to sit here and discuss the political side of a ******* video game. This game started small, blew up out of control. Went into open beta, has been in a downward spiral since. I love poking at all the baddies that continue to defend a game that yields NOTHING from grinding all day. I can't use those mechs to fight in spectacular clan war fare battles, I can't participate in any type of league because there are no lobbies, and the game still runs like a bag of ****. I play every other game max'd out, yet still get a simple black screen freeze. Either way, this game is rubbish and any of you baddies that continue to ride the PGI/IGP band wagon are a bunch of sheep.

Lol all the yets to prove what? That they are all correct. I'd hire someone to fix it but they'd probably tell me nothing is wrong with it. You check the hardware support forums lately? The same desktop crash from a year ago is still around, going into release. Spam more k?

I guess that depends on the status of the game doesn't it?

I guess that means a lot like it is today, plus community warfare, lobbies, and more content to grind out.

If those things exist, will you come back? Or will you find new things to be upset about?

I would, but I won't be playing it out of just boredom. Someone will have to mention the huge differences and increase in new content... ohh and the clans. Won't bother playing till I can serve Kerensky.

That's actually a pretty good question... and I personally don't know what I will do, I PLAN to come back when the game is in a better state... but how long will that take and what other games will have taken my attention away from this by then? Currently my game money is going into war thunder and Star Citizen... War Thunder is pretty amazing right now, and if PGI takes too long, Star Citizen will be out in a year (Fighter module) or two...

I hope you do come back. At its most basic level, playing giant stompy space robots is incredibly fun. The foundation of the game is rock solid; they just need to put the different parts in to flesh out the content.

Totally, and in 90 days when all those parts are in the game, it's going to be epic.

The thing is I myself want to believe in game that i was sold so long ago when it 1st was announced, Bought my 120 founders package 1st day the started selling them, even though i could not even log in to game.

The SaveMWO movement and the Unite and drop thing. cool.

But the game has gotten stale , very very stale with the current set up. I mean really what is there to do after 10000+ drops?
same maps
same modes
Meta changes is all that really happens with this game mech wise/weapon load outs.

Im am not one of the ones who demand my money back. sure to some thats alot, but not really. to me i spent 120 bucks and considered it as a subscription i played for "X" amount of year/months. Fine keep my money.

But the important part here is.

I will not spend another Dime of my money on this game until there is something to spend it on.
Not fluff
Not more mech packages
nada, nothing

I will instead give money to games that are fun to me and have some better content
Like Warthunder and Star Citizen even though same boat as MWO when i 1st joined up, cant play it for awhile to come. thats ok cause im giving it to them because unlike PGI, they have a proven track record with games and hell they have raised over 20 million bucks all player funded. on its way to 21.

I simply cannot even log in and drop in this game because of stale and boring maps.

if and when they actually put something in game ill be back more and more

Hell what tomorrow is the release of what? taking the beta name off?

wow, gee golly miss molly.
really a release of plans that we all been hearing for months and nothing to show for it.
Bugs that havent been fixed since we started playing.

good luck on that release

how many times have we been told Community warfare will be here and such and such date? Hell we waited MONTHS for the Orion, but hell what did we get? Mechs no one even knew about and you have to pay for them if you want them early.

naw.

wow this is the biggest post ever for me lol
guess ill say good luck
