If everyone stops playing the game, that means Mechwarrior wont be around...which means we'll all have to wait another 5-10 years before someone else decides to resurrect the franchise out the ashes of PGI/IGP.

- SAYF

Some people, myself included, think that if MWO fails then this is probably the last time anyone will ever try to resurrect MechWarrior.

Another wasted turn by our developers. Hope see you all at UniteAndDrop!

If your unhappy with the latest "September developers update" and the lack of honest and open communication from PGI/IGP to their dedicated and still loyal fanbase and have supported the savemwo initiative, then please join us in www.uniteandrop.com

If your still undecided or sitting on the fence, maybe now is the time to make a choice on where you stand?

The more people who join www.uniteandrop.com on the day the better chance we have as a community to make our voices heard.

Soo, PGI is afraid of people trash-talking their decision making abilities? What do you plan on doing about commercial reviewers? There's still no content to speak of! No missions, no community warfare (other than the door slamming as we all leave!), no voice comms....

Behind the scenes, we have been working hard on UI 2.0, CW, and Clans.

specify that! "Clans" as in "Clan Invasion" or as in Clan/Guild/Merc Corps/whatever else one might call it, depending on the game/genre ?

Balance
Do you remember the last patch before open beta? Every weapon had a place and wasn't over powered save the MG's, Flamers, and AC2 which were weak. Hit boxes worked. How did we go from that to this.

Charity
Congrats

Economics
Why are we grinding Cbills again? It didn't work the last 2 time you tried it. Grind EXP and soak the players for GXP transfers. Customizing and playing new mechs is what keeps players around. Then soak players for hero mechs and mech bays.

The math has been analyzed and declared dumb. Please don't think a new player wants to fight a full battle to earn a single medium laser if he does well.

Community
So many words but so little substance save don't yell at IGP yell at PGI.
Do you remember the original Planetside. It's greatest loss of players was when the Dev's said here's a great idea lets put Big F Robots in the game. Then ignored the players when they asked then yelled for it to be either nerfed or removed. Don't let this happen to you.

Policy
Hate mail? Have you had these problems before? How could this have been averted?

Launch Event
What are we launching? Who even knows outside this forum. Is this crisis just to get people posting the name of MWO on other forums in the hope that bad publicity is better than none? Though at least you managed to get Angry Joe on here.

I was on the fence about buying the Phoenix Pack. Last week convinced me not to. This week looks to make me think about dropping the Founders.

For all those who continue to state this is only Beta. Isn't a Beta supposed to improve over time not get worse?

First, excuses should not be in here. You want to talk about 3pv and why you dont listen to the community, make a different news post. Provide real content in this, not trolling.

Second
How is 3pv a success? It does NOT help you with orientation if your mech is too big - and many are NOT scaled right to begin with. If it is a success, than one can only surmise that your intention was a MechAssault style 3pv because that is exactly what it can be used as.

Third, New player retention. I doubt your numbers. There are two possibilities - you are obligated to make 3pv sound popular, so you created this. Or, since this is a free registration game, everyone who quit with their main accounts last week started small ones and played them for a week. Either way, your changes did nothing to help new players so therefor this is a sham.

Finally, Your approach to the community. Ask yourself this - when is it ever ok to tell the community which represents you in every aspect that they are not the core demographic and that because there is some mystical silent majority out there that you ACTUALLY HAVE NO CONTACT WITH SO YOU DO NOT ACTUALLY KNOW HOW THEY FEEL so therefor it is ok for you to ignore the uproar that happened.

Protip - it is never ok.

Even if I was just neutral on this, I have to point to the fact that these are the people who are going to go out and talk about your game. they are going to be the ones that flood metacritic, that actually talk to people about this game... If you are dismissive of these people - most of whom gave you that 5 million dollar stack of cash to come up with this game - than you are going to fail. Pure and simple.

And here is the annoying thing. Despite having the data and proof before that Premades were not the problem with people getting smashed, you went with the vocal minority on the forum - a minority of what you call a minority - and stripped out people's ability to play with friends within a certain range.

In closing, you do not make a mechwarrior simulator game for an audience that is not mechwarrior simulator fans.

PGI is gonna be like the next Harmony Gold for Mechwarrior at this rate. Squatting on the rights while not doing anything useful with them for years.....

Also this was a terribly unprofessional and honestly non-updating update.

The plans for Community Warfare at launch event include informing the players that Community Warfare is no longer a design pillar and any communication that it was to be in the game was a mistake in communication....... They decided their "silent majority" demographic didn't really want it and efforts would be be better placed in developing gold ammo and other pay to win items.

I see a lot of validity in your post, and I undestand your point of view. That being said, you have to understand that they will take directions for the game that will expose it to as broad an audience as they can. Sure, some of these will not be your cup of tea, but odds are (going by the "vocal minority" standard) that your direction would have lead to a game aimed at hardcore people (not that I wouldn't like that kind of game). The sad truth is that this is a business, their goal is not to limit their income to pursue philantropical pursuits. They want to make money. And they want to make a good game. The important part is for them to push the core game mechanics out the door, then they can add the bells and whistles that make the game shine.

Now, I DO see many problems, but I think they are workable, that's why I didn't cancel my Phoenix Package. Well, that and I used my 30 days lol. But I honestly think that people are overreacting due to the nostalgia factor and their own passions towards the game. Starting a constructive debate is the best step the community could take because right now, if I was PGI as an entity, I woulnd't want to speak with the community based on the toxic nature of the inflowing communications. Again, don't misunderstand me, I do think that they have some serious Mea Culpa's to do, but I know for a fact that if I was at PGI and I saw feedback like that, my own enjoyment of working on this project would be heavily diminished and then that whole work grind factor would settle in, it reduces productivity and creates apathy. In the end, it reduces the quality of the product.

Honestly... At this point, I'm pretty much beyond caring about what happens with MW:O.

It has been stale for months. The current meta isn't fun.

The new player experience is horrible, due to the lack of tutorials and new players are just tossed into the shark tank.

Community Warfare, the thing so many of us were excited about, is months away if it ever comes at all.

Now, if I play I have to play with people who can use 3PV to peek over hills and around corners. The single thing that made MW4 play unbearable at the end.

The Developers are not responsive to the community. One AtD post and this thing from Bryan (whatever it is) are little evidence that they have changed their ways. They waited an entire week to even hint that they knew that the community was angry about 3PV's implementation.

Nope. I don't care anymore.

All they had to do to keep my business was follow through with their promise, PROMISE, that they wouldn't force me to play with 3PV folks. That's it! I would have continued being patient for the other features that they have promised

But I am not their Target Demographic apparently.

So, I'm done caring. My wallet is closed. If I play again, which I don't know if I will, I won't be buying ANYTHING with real cash.

When the game launches, I will not draw any of my friends into the game. I may actively tell them to avoid it, we'll see.

I may even post negatively about the game on Review sites, if I'm in the mood at the time.

Companies this arrogant with their core community need to understand that there is a cost for behavior like this.

www.uniteandrop.com
I'm all for this. When the create account feature is up, you have me to join. Hopefully this works. Hopefully PGI changes their tune or it's action and pitch forks here on out. In my previous posting, I invited people to email me at my business address and give me info and such if I were to take legal action. This is the last straw for me. My business lawyer and I have met and concluded that something can in fact be done. I will begin shaping and drawing up a petition for players to sign soon. I will wait until after this event concludes to see if there is any change, OR, if I receive contact from Russ Bullock or equal from PGI in regards to my questions. Again, I will happily sign any and all NDAs required. If this happens, then as I said before in my above posts. I will cease, desist, tear down my posts, apologize and do everything in my power to ensure this community of fine players that have been lied to that good is in fact coming and that we need to wait....Or. I will rally them to arms and march on your doorstep. The choice is yours. Choose.

I wanted to provide my comments before reading anyone else's, so if this has already been said, forgive me. This is going to be kind of long. The quotes are from the original post.

Quote

... adding more action, tactics, and deeper gameplay (12v12) ...

This change has probably had the biggest positive impact on the game since host-state-rewind was first rolled out. Even when I solo PUG drop, coordination has improved significantly among most teams.

Quote

... make the game appeal to a broader audience of gamers (3PV) ...

Please, please, please, do not forget the core of your fanbase ... there are certainly hundreds, more likely thousands, of players who have proven that they are willing to spend significant amounts of money to play a great Mech Warrior Game.

To us, that means a competition-focused PC-based FPS/Simulation.

While it's possible that a casual-focused console/PC hybrid arcade game could be successful, it will be without many (maybe most) of the core BattleTech/MechWarrior fans (including me), and that would be unfortunate.

Quote

... good bump in new player retention!

Tutorial. Give us a tutorial and private lobbies, and I will be very excited about inviting my friends to play the game again.

Quote

... UI 2.0, CW, and Clans ...

Eager for more information.

Quote

Balance ... ever evolving meta-game ...

I ask you to consider including us in your discussions about balance. Regardless of what you do, the most competitive players--who are represented by many of the most active forum posters--will find a way to use the changes to their advantage. Change too big or in the wrong direction, and we'll end up with another LRM-pocalypse-like-event. Let us help you!

Quote

Charity

I continue to be amazed and inspired by the good things this community can do.

Quote

Economics

Be careful making the C-Bill earnings too slow. If a new player buys (and then properly equips) a mech that turns out to be the wrong one for them, then they're stuck with that mech for a long time before they buy (and properly equip) another one.

Quote

Even though best intentions and plans for future designs and direction of the game can take a different course as we develop them ...

When things change, tell us how and why, early.
Pretty please, with sugar on top, just friggin' communicate with us more often.

Quote

... favourite weapons, builds, Mechs that we want to be the best they can be, but oftentimes we can overly focus on what affects us ...

The problem with balance is not favorites, it's when one type of mech is mathematically superior to others. Competitive players will use what works, regardless of favorites ... we want our favorites to work as well as everyone else's favorite, and not have to take something we don't like to be able to win.

Quote

... new form of communication since spring ... keeping them closer to the chest until we are ready to make a presentation to the community ...

How do you think that's going regarding Camera (3rd Person) View?

I have a very straight forward question for mr Bryan Ekman. Have you decided to take MWO development path down the road of an arcade shooter or do you still plan on developing it into an immersive sim experience? Very serious question because this will determine where my path will go as far as spending money and supporting MWO. I really don't want to invest in something that has taken on an entirely new paradigm from what it was intended to be in closed beta.

Ck

But it should be obvious by this point that they're going for Arcade Shooter.

Just wait till after launch, we'll have powerups dropping from dead mechs. it'll be Mech Assault all over again

To wait 10 years and to be so close to what I thought was an amazing mech game seen in CB days. Ahhh the let down.
I guess I posted my question out of desperation and holding on to some kind of hope. Yes the signs are all there that PGI intends to go the arcade path but I would like to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak

I know right...

I used to defend my choice in spending 120usd on Legendary Founders.

The sad part is, I don't even have everything that I was promised yet. [my names still not in the credits, as there are no credits.]

Isn't that cute... not to mention the game I'd initally been pitched has changed far from what it was intended to be.

Frankly, if I thought they could

I second Tennex on this. I generally like some more data with my data, and I feel a week is faaaaarrrr too short to have any idea the impact 3PV has on the game.

If a week is more than plenty of time for conclusions like these, then why are we not seeing bi-weekly patches that are tuning weapons and working on balancing?

This "update" has convinced me that Bryan and the devs are openly hostile to to player base.

"After releasing 3PV we saw an immediate improvement in our target demographic"
"Target Demographic"

Considering that so many people put this game on indefinite hiatus with the release of 3PV, I can only assume that hardcore, simulation, founding players are not their target demographic.

Earlier they explained that the C-Bill decrease was to make it so that players could generate enough C-bills to buy a "top tier mech like the Atlas" in X hours. Unfortunately they forgot to take their bad design into consideration and forgot that all the base mechs in the game suck and require an additional 1.5-7 million C-bills to even make viable. In reality it takes DOUBLE the current earnings to get a top tier mech like the Atlas.

They advocated the "suicide rush strategy" for grinding with

"If players so wish, they can even increase C-Bill earnings substantially by exiting matches if they are destroyed early, and jumping into a new one."

Nothing else needs to be said about ^

They used a huge paragraph that was TL;DR: The forums don't matter, we wont listen to complaints there.

By saying that IGP and PGI share the burden of development they explained that all these horrible choices in development are BOTH parties fault.

GG PGI.
