I may be new here, but I don't see the big deal about 3pv. I understand it isn't the Mechwarrior feel (And I can't stand playing it), but I don't see how it is game breaking like people are saying it is. They have a floating drone above their head with a bright blinking red light, restricted movement (Armlock can't be disabled), all for what? Seeing the top portion of their back?

I could be wrong, since, I don't do competitive 12v12, I do the PUG matches. But never once have I see anyone last long in 3pv. Most people ask how to get out of it, very few stick with it the whole game.

Who cares if you don't like playing in 3PV, you can still use 1PV. You don't get much more FoV and when you're getting wrecked from the side or behind, it won't really matter. The 3PV is supposed to bring in more players, and that's what its done, (according to the devs), and with more players means more money, which means more time and rescources can be devoted to the big projects. All this griping about 3PV is taking the dev's time from the other projects since they are trying to alter this constantly now.

Anyways, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in there. :) If anyone can explain to me what the big beef is with 3PV I'm all ears (Not sarcastic, I really am curious)

white knighting

In forum parlance, it means rushing to the aid of another poster for whatever reason.

I have frequently criticized PGI on some of their decisions. The glacial progress of the content releases. The upcoming gauss nerf (which should be applied to the PPC). The spider hit boxes. Their communication style.

You confuse agreeing with them on one topic with agreeing with them on all topics. I assure you, that is NOT the case.

Quote

'You are subtly trolling the majority userbase by defending PGI's consistently unethical bait and switch and "lawyering" of their previous statements.

The majority of the userbase apparently supports this latest change, as the poll suggests. I am in the majority in this case.

Thank you Bryan for entertaining some solutions. This is a step in the right direction. However, I do hope that I can still play 1pv only when I can't muster 12 teammates together. Perhaps we can have 1pv only for mixed size team queues?

What they are doing here is saying PUG games can get an arcade-y feel, and 12s will be the "hardcore" mode.

They actually did split the ques, without splitting the ques.

Yes... doing nothing is "effectively" doing something. That's just terrible. I've already stated that somewhere along my comments.

Yes, I'm a bit of an optimist, but I believe there is a little good in everyone.

It'd be nice if Bryan could deign to perhaps if it's not too much to ask please post some clarification. Because if this is the way it's supposed to be than if you want there to be mixed queues you should vote no correct?
I think they designed this poll so that if the majority is Yes they can say ok no mixed queues because the players voted on it and said they only want it in 12 man play and if the majority is NO, then they can say no one wants 1PV only.
Am I reading it wrong? Only PGI can answer, but I think we've got our dev post for the day, look communication is improving we don't even usually get 1. Woot improved communication! :)

The proposal clearly states that Hardcore (aka 1PV-Only) would be removed from the drop down list... so yes... if people vote for that, PGI could conceivably point toward that and claim it indicated support for that removal.

If you want a 1PV-only queue for more than just 12 vs 12 man pre-made matches, then there is no acceptable answer provided to choose in that poll.

We already have seen how willing they are to ignore polls that do not match up with their agenda. If you want a vote that can get their true attention, vote with your wallet and your feet.

Wait...There's an ignore feature?!?!?! The very last thing I ever want to do is shut out dissenting opinions, or those that disagree with mine, but yeah, there are some situations were "Life it too short for your {Scrap}".

In the even that PGI has zero plans at all to incorporate a solo/4man/11man FPV only queue and has no intentions of ever doing so, and the 12man scene will be the only scene to see a chance of only-FPV, then yes, limiting 12s to FPV is fine in the sense that if PGI won't do any FPV only queue for general gaming, at least 12mans do.

Seriously need to reconsider that 12mans aren't all the time though, and people do like to play random matches with a few/sizable (amount) of friends with FPV only.

Having an FPV only queue, then FPV and 3rd PV, and then 12man FPV would be fine by me, but if you guys really can't or it isn't part of the vision any more, than yes, 12man FPV is the only way to save perhaps half of the hope many of the pessimists have. Or so.

you can check over ridges without getting shot. something you can't in 1st person. That means, a scout can keep eyes on enemys without being in danger.

at about 1 minute you can see, how he can see the enemy catapult, but it has now red triangle over it, that means he has no "line of sight" -> from 1pv he would not be able to see it. As soon as he steps up the ridge he gets line of sight and a clear line of fire and it gets a triangle.
This is a killer for competitive play. Ans also for pug matches, at least to some degree.

edit:
also, one of the reasons why people are freaking out like that about this, is that this is not the first time people are dissapointed to that degree. The more often it happens, the more extreme the reactions will be.
And let's be honest, even if we'd assume that all those people are wrong, a gaming community that used to be an awesome one (during closed beta, we were all happy and we'd kiss PGI's butts because we loved them for making this awesome game - we even threw over 5 million dollars on them in a kickstarter like project called Founders Project) doesn't freak out like that with no reason.

As for the votes... for many of us, there is not an acceptable choice provided.

Again that is how you read it. Wouldn't it be better if the person who posted it, who in fact might have a big stake in how this game fares at launch could maybe if it's not terribly troubling post the official answer? I know they apologized for poor communication, I guess that's as far as it goes. Why bother to actually communicate better right? I guess it was their position at the time that they would strive to improve communication. BTW new Saber package to spend money on.... :)

I don't ignore people I disagree with, I ignore people who pretend to disagree with me so they can generate more outrage or for whatever reason they think it's a good idea to pretend to be something they are not. I can deal with people I disagree with I don't like frauds, kind of why I'm annoyed with PGI.

removed my vote.

your poll in no way addresses those in 2/4 man drops who are opposed to 3pv and just as competitive as 12man drops

By slipping in the fact that you are going to remove the Hardcore mode option is a dastardly way of claiming that you are doing what the core group asked for.

I will gladly help in making this thread just as long as the previous 278 page thread

hardcore selection mode was a solid idea, there we have a choice, which is really all any human being wants.

Well, at first I voted yes, because the clan I'm in does do 12 mans as we can and it would remove the competitive advantage from both sides from switching back and forth between the views.

However, we definitely do a lot non 12 man drops as it's not easy to get 12 folks all on, rotate folks, and be efficient.
I fully understand that there are a lot of other folks that don't have the desire, time, or skills to find and group up with 12 folks, and truthfully they stand a high chance of getting trashed by clan 12 mans.
These folks, and the fact that even those of us that do 12 man do 90% of their drops in less then 12 are the ones that deserve to still be able to play 1PV with 1PVers only.

I have since deleted my vote, because this poll is loaded (intentional or through poor design).

In addition, can someone let me know how to put someone on ignore in the forums. I've been trying to keep up on these threads but it's difficult. There are particular prolific posters that add little to the discussion but just seem to keep it alive through word lawyering and simple trolling. I believe it reflects poorly on their clan and whatever faction/opinion they represent. I'd prefer to read the threads without it.

I continue to play, but will continue to not spend as it's still a lack of trust issue. Looking forward to Sept 17th and what CW turns out to be.
