To be honest, as much as I like the Saber package. If those mechs where a part of the Phoenix package, I'd ditch the Wolvie and Griff for these in a heartbeat.

(Different colors would be a nice little touch, but that's just me.)

You can forget about the Marauders, Warhammer and Rifleman... they won't be included in this game... ever. Too many legal issues.

A lot of people thought that about the current set of unseen/reseen mechs. When you start throwing money at license holders, they start becoming cooperative.

"I can make roughly $0.00 by keeping my IP locked up, or I can make paper sailor moneyhats if I take a cut of their sales..."

Except this is NOT what happened with these Phoenix 'Mechs at all. No one is getting paid any licensing fees for PGI's creations of these 'mechs (unless someone licenses them from PGI). There was never even an issue with using the Dougram/Crusher Joe designs. FASA took them down because if Harmony Gold was going to bring lawsuits over licensed art, they might as well take those down as well because the people in charge of Dougram/Crusher Joe could also bring lawsuits if they wanted to (but they never did).

PGI did what was right: they created new designs. Catalyst Games also created their own designs for these 'mechs that are perfectly legal for them to use (TEN YEARS AGO), but everyone keeps trying to ignore that. Mostly because the art in 2003's Technical Readout: Project Phoenix was horrible, but they can still use those designs as a launching point to make new iterations from with better artists instead of trying to rehash old licensed art that someone else made for an entirely different purpose.

EDIT OUT Blah Blah <snip>..........then you obviously didn't put much thought into the purchase ahead of time...

I DEFINITELY did not put much thought into my purchase......YOU got me. You also like bare bones pseudo games then. The Mechwarrior in this game is a veneer.......nothing more.

i can think of legal redesigns for most of those in my head but the massive bent legs, overhead cannon, and large arm cannons of the marauder are just too strange in a way that really makes it basically impossible to remake without it being illegal.

This has been a legal image to use for the Marauder for over a decade now:

Mind you, it's not as pretty as the Macross image, but I blame most of that on the artist, not the design. Here's what that same design looks like when handled by a better artist (FD):

EDIT: Keep in mind, both of these designs are still technically off-limits to MWO, because Battletech images in print media are owned by Topps, Inc. (and licensed to Catalyst Games for sourcebooks and other items). Topps is not licensing to PGI, so PGI has to create all of its own unique art (even if it has an artist that also has done work for the print media). But still, there is probably an infinitely smaller issue with making a Marauder that is based on this design rather than the Macross design.

Just be glad you don't have OCD like me. Each of my 20 mechs has its own engine (either STD or XL) and its own set of modules, weapons and equipment. I'm space poor this week.

LoL, I use to be a 'completionist' in other games. Thankfully, I think I've outgrown that need. :D

all mine have their own engine and equipement thougt about switching but with the current ui its a pain flicking though 73 mechs to find the one with the right engine..modules though are few and far between..

And worth every bit of it for those with the Ral Parth Battletech personel minis, the Scale is almost perfect to bring Large table top terrain constructs to life. :D

If you create something similar to an existing trademark, and call it the same thing, that is infringing on the trademark. If I make my own McDonald's logo, and call it a McDonald's, do you really think the fact that I created it myself matters?...

They can get away with it how they did the Firebrand/Rifleman, though - that is how they would have to handle the Marauder too, more than likely.
