They are essentially un-announcing their own game.

That´s harsh and not true. They recieved a mixed resonance for their last patch. Some agreed to the changes, some made suggestions, others despised them. But there was SOME positive resonance for a patch that was essentially just a round of trial+error-balancing.

launch is their last chance for a sort of "clean slate", give people good impressions at launch with a bit of promotion and they're good to go, but no, clearly have to screw it up
gah *facedesk*
When is the best time to launch a new overhaul of the UI?
In Beta so the players can help find all the bugs or after launch and hope that it dosn't go ***'s up and push any new players away when they see a huge buggy feature introduced.
Well i'm not a games developer so i am only guessing here but I think the best time to test a large feature like this is in Beta, obviously i'm wrong.

Adv. Zoom was "fixed" by enlarging the pixels at the max regular zoom level, instead of standard non-zoomed pixels. This makes it look sharper, but also takes away the same amount of FOV as zooming in regularly does. IMO this is a decent compromise but still doesn't truly give a 4x zoom or a zoom w/out diminished situational awareness. I still would have rather seen a straight up 4x zoom, acknowledging that any sort of PIP is a no go thanks to the engine. Also this fix should and probably could have been done MUCH sooner.

I want to know what this means. It could be a game breaker for me as i'm basically waiting for clan mechs (no not because they're OP. I just like the look of a lot of clan mechs and think most IS mechs look like {Scrap} ).
Also, if PGI aren't following lore (which they barely have so far) then why the hell are they making a BT game?

I'm surprised there isn't a leader board for it.

I am confused.....What exactly is launch all about? Maybe if we are lucky we will get that moon base map I heard they were working on?

I don't think they will screw up the visual appearance of clan mechs.
But we can safely assume that Clan tech is going to be designed and balanced by Uncle Nerfbat.

1. Launch, market, and bring in new players
2. Change the entire UI 2 weeks later.
3. New players, just becoming acclimated to the old UI, are faced with a new UI.
*sighs*
For real?
I mean....seriously.....
For real?
And they are removing their biggest shield from some of the most dedicated people: Beta.
I honestly an absolutely flabbergasted here and can't believe this. I mean, <deleted the nasty part>

What a nonsense.. I'm a totally Inner Sphere pilot, but I'm convinced that Clantech MUST be superrior. Yes, it's lolOP in a duel. But it ballances pretty great with numbers.
Make it 1 Star VS 3 lances and it's totally OK. I'm serious. That's how it's made in TT.
PGI, you don't want the majority of your schoolchildren target audience to defect to Clans? Make the Clans HARD to join. It's in the lore, guys. Clans ARE superior, there are NO NOOBS there. You can't make just ANYONE a Clanner. He must at least run a hundred battles and score some good ELO or something. So the Star of Clanners could give a hard fight to 2-3 IS lances (need some BattleValue matching) and take a really glorious victory.

Terrible management skills would be giving them a compliment. Plus side, it's going to be really fun reading the reviews of this game after "launch", if these guys think we hurt their feelings being honest with them wait until the world gets to see it without the beta tag.

Honestly guys, I know enough about creating databases to know I don't know much and even I, (if given 2 weeks, an intern and a graphic artist) could have put together a CW that is more feature rich than what you guys have (vaguely) alluded to.
I could have added in some bells and whistles too, like planets determining what maps would be in rotation, groups choosing opponents without unnecessary load on the game server... and wait for it.... planetary conditions effecting the game space (gravity, pollution, etc).

That is not the point in this topic. Tell me what is this launching about? This game is not ready for launch, period.
there is much to do and to test before you launch a game, this should be done in the beta not after release.
50% of the founders are gone, you cant just ignore the fact and call it "vocal minority".
There is nothing to launch, it´s just another patch in a game that is still deep in the beta stage.

There is some truth to that, but let's consider their track record.
We were told we'd have CW "a few months" after Open Beta, but definitely before Launch. I heard that myself in chat from Paul's own fingers. Now, not only did they miss that date (by a LOT), but we won't have it at launch. Hell, my money is on not having it 6 months after launch. FAIL
We were told that those who didn't want 3 POV would NEVER have to play against those who do. FAIL.
I don't know how other units are doing, but frankly, mine's dying. Teams have been nerfed into irrelevance. PGI doesn't give a {Scrap} about us and we know it. We were told CW would change that. But it's nowhere to be seen, of course. What could be a potentially HUGE recruiting tool for them is bleeding away into other games.
In their desperation to get playing numbers up, they make the most common mistake a development company makes. Instead of trying to produce a truly high quality experience, they try and draw in a larger "core audience" with dumb-downed features and abstracted meta-game. Apparently anything too complicated is just too hard for the average Joe to get. SO instead of a true MechWarrior game, we're headed towards MechAssault online.
Maybe that's what they want, but honestly I feel like I've been the victim of a bait and switch.
It's really disheartening, but you can almost taste PGI's panic in these moves.
Why am I still here? I still love MechWarrior. And I still hope they "figure it out" and and deliver on the promise that's there.
But who am I kidding.... they've gone into a defensive crouch and have decided we don't matter.
