The event itself was pretty awful, I feel bad for anyone who paid to fly down from out of state and came solo, it seems to me the only fun to be had was either if you were in the tournament yourself or if you were flying down with friends or fellow corp members. The whole event was standing room only with only 2 small couches, so you had to stand for all 8 hours, the free food was just some broccoli with dip and some bitter tasting flat bread with cheese and veggies and cold hotwings, the event was plagued by slow spots where we would just stand around doing nothing while they had technical difficulties (and I'm talking about in-game ones), and I don't know how you people watching the stream fared but in person you couldn't make out anything on the poor quality projector screen so you could barely even watch the tournament during the Forest Colony drops, and something you might have not noticed if you were watching the stream, but in person you couldn't hear the commentary at all, so for us the tournament was silent except for the game. The only thing to even do was to play on the two Razer laptops upstairs. It seems to me like everyone was just standing around waiting for their free shirts, which, they weren't even planning on giving out until 9:30 to make us stay. Of course, so many people wanted to leave that they actually started giving them out early by request, and let me tell you, there was a line at the exit just to get your stuff and go after that PC Gamer rehash presentation.
I know people will say that it was PGI's first event so give them a break but...what was even the point of the event? They could have just had the tourny without flying everyone down, there was literally nothing to do, we were paid in t-shirts to just stand around and make the room look populated so PGI could get some nice footage to show investors, there was 0 point to this meeting, the developers and PGI staff didn't even interact with us past giving brief AtD style answers to any questions we could ask the few brief times we could catch them when they'd run from the stage and back into their little segretated VIP area. They should have AT LEAST shown off clan mech concept art considering Bryan said it's already finished. But NOPE.
I think the worst of it all was how insincere Bryan came off as, then again, for all I know I was confusing incompetence with insincerity, not sure which is worse. I have no idea if you guys had a view of this from the stream but the entire time it seemed like Bryan was just making things up as he went along, to the point where he'd frantically motion toward Phil to change the slide when he'd run out of things to think up of. Even more hilarious was Paul just sitting there the entire time playing Tetris on his phone, completely and utterly disinterested in the whole thing.
I have no idea if the event was any different from the PoV of the stream, but in person, it painted a very stark reality. I don't know about you guys, but the event has done the opposite for me, it's killed any hope I had for getting any sort of new meaningful features or game modes any time soon, or for this game to ever get any better.
that's more disheartening than the cw reveal
