This game plenty of upsides. There is a lot of interesting things, such as customizing mech loadout and test them in combat, which can keep you hooked to the game for hours. The combat is exciting, the visual effect is top-notch (although you need a decent computer), and the amount of tactics and teamwork involved to win in the core gameplay is high.
The game also have plenty of downsides. First of all, the game desperately needs a lot of features to be completed. It need a detailed tutorial on control and weapon systems. There is also no lobby system, the social interaction in-game is lacking. The developers have indicated that they are working on a revamped UI and a 'community war' system that allows players to fight for planet control. But it has been 'in production' for a very long time without actual tangible update from the developers.
And finally, speaking of the developers, their communication with both the playerbase, and amongst themselves, are questionable at best. They have made a lot of pledges which they failed to keep (which is why you see a number of disgruntled rants here). Sometimes they do not seem to know what is going on on the other end of their building (search for Russ' apology). It does give out the feeling that they are dragging the game back and the game is not realising its full potential, well, not yet anyway.
Conclusion: This game is worth a try if you likes some shooting with stompy robots. However, I strongly recommend not spending any real money until the developer is able to polish the game and roll out the big features such as the eagerly anticipated (for over a year) community warfare. This game also has tons of potential, if only the developer knows how to untap it.

Certainly not me, absolutely frustrating to bring in just a basic mech with lasers and 1 or 2 lrm's, maybe one streak - only to drop in a random match and find Mr. ECM who can fire their lrms and streaks at me while I can't. Not sure what PGI was thinking with this - trying to be "different" when ECM was far more balanced in MW3, 4, or LL. They are indeed too emotionally attached to their work, trying to be "different," when it is too clear that certain area's of the games are suffering because of it (the "heat" system for example).

I wouldn't put too much stock into "deemed helpful" today. It's being used mostly as "upvote/downvote" rather than actually finding something helpful, and is skewed heavily in favor of negative reviews.
That being said whoever at IGPGI decided that now was a good time for launch is still kind of a dezgra. I enjoy the game thoroughly, but this wasn't a patch worthy of launch.

going? GONE.
lets see, after buying, meaning fully supporting the game (I'll post receipts on metacritic) almost 300 bucks.
Yup,and I can afford it. No more. The devs go so far off track its jokingly referred to walletwarrior online...
After my 3rd or so uninstalling reinstalling to try and fix the hangs, the lag, the crashes to desktop the fps drop with each new patch. I'm done.
The patch with 3rd person was thee worse.
If reviews over the next few months get better, I'll be back, otherwise. c'ya

There you have it. MWO is a better game than World of Tanks. The users have spoken.

I am surprised you didn't try and say MWO has more players since it got more reviews, lol.
But, yea... like I have said before, metacritic is a joke, and nobody should use it to determine if they should play a game or not.

That is *if* they start reviewing it, it doesn't even seem to be on the radar of most places/critics at all. That doesn't bode well methinks.

The score isn't that important, but if I was someone considering to try MWO but see all the comments about how the devs (man)handle the community, I'd probably look for another game to test.

No one is going to read the user reviews.
The sad thing is all the phony accounts used to hand out zero ratings, like Sean_Lang, Prosperity Park, Egomane, miSs, etc, etc. They should just strip out all the 0s and 10s as clearly biased.
Of course, there are twice as many 0s

I think they are waiting to see if this "launch" is a joke before weighing in. Even with all the money IGP slipped PC gamer they have to be wondering how they can review this when they called it one of the best 25 PC shooters ever...ever...

PCGamer will probably make an effort, since they've been doing promos and such for MWO before. Unless the recent bad press scared them off too that is.
I'm sure it'll (shockingly) mirror the dev teams online games are never done mantra and in just a few short months the features promised a few short months ago will be promised to be implemented in a few short months.
