Mechwarrior Online Developer Interview [Video]

Video Link
[ I would embed if I knew how]

Something that amused me was;

"this [launch] is just the beginning, we've now laid the base and the framework of this game"

whoever was spouting that nonsense. What the **** have you been doing for 2.5 years?

The video came across as; two dudes in tshirts saying "Yep, we made this robot game, you should check it out, kthxbai"

OP there's something you're missing. this is no longer an in gaming circles promise they're admitting to phase 1 CW at new years on ABCnews. they're commiting on a public broadcaster to their deadline IE: they're carers at this level of management is on the line now. i've no doubt they'ed be fired and this vid along with the 4 pillars one will be refferenced along with burning effegess if they fail to delivery. that kind of risk on their part makes me a little more hopefull that this game isn't a grab and bin effort... i look forward to seeing what happens in the coming months.

now they're in the spotlight it's make or break for russ and bryan, the faces everyone will remember for making...or braking MWO.

Galaxy, not that I think they won't have CW Phase 1 by New Years.. but:

You'd have thought that about 3pv split queues..

true but there's a difference between lying to the playerbase {like a foreman lying to the factory workers} and lying on a nationwide news broadcast {worse than lying to investors} beleive me they've really started to put their heads on the chopping block with this kinda claim.

will heads roll? we'll see come new years!

That's the local ABC affiliate for San Francisco, nothing nation-wide about it, and it's not even in the same nation where they are employed, so no I don't expect them specifically to be fired if they miss this deadline.
That said, it is pretty cool to see them get prime-time air-time in such a large market.

Decent interview but for me it confirmed one thing. Neither dev should be handling any kind of pr or marketing. They have no idea how to present. This may be one of the core issues behind certain things with the game as a whole. Now I'm not bashing them for it at all, they're game devs, I don't expect them to be great public speakers but this was painfully obvious they have no idea what to do under a spotlight. I really think they, the company, and the game as a whole would greatly benefit if they would leave this portion of the process to someone else. Hell, if the price is right I'd submit a resume lol. Seriously though guys you just launched your baby to the public in a private launch party and you looked about as enthusiastic as someone going in to the proctologist for a colonoscopy. This may be a big part of the problem as far as dealing with the gaming community as a whole

you mean news at ten won't broadcast this outside CA.... NOOOOOOOOOO! now i understand why they agreed to be interviewed but pointing where to download the game for free seems pointless when it's not a big audience who will get the message. meh better than nothing i suppose.

wow... slow news day. guess they ran out of squirrels watersking...

As to 'heads on the block' don't be daft; they've done a great job in a business sense... rake in a tonne of cash, deliver a snake oil product and keep people spending on said snake oil with thin assurances of vaporware while getting their product ready to be taken on by a larger (sony) group.

Reminds me of the closing scene from There Will Be Blood... "draaaaiiiinnige Eli!"
