What about mechs that use PPC+some other gun combo?
And what about Thunderbolt, is it that bad? Having MASC + ECM combo looks good to me.

Edit: I'm really liking the heavy PP Grasshopper, thank you.

Thunderbolts are good 'mechs, but can feel left out in the new meta. It's a 65-tonner, and it still has structure quirks instead of armor, which puts it at a disadvantage since structure damage generates critical hits. It does have excellent hit boxes; back when the Clans were first released, in all of their overpowered glory, they used to leg Thunderbolts to death in Faction Warfare, like a Light - because that was the only way to efficiently kill them. The Thunderbolt is still tough as nails, but its defensive abilities just aren't that great compared to the amount of firepower that's out there nowadays. It can also be difficult to find a build that isn't just done better by another 'mech (EG the Vapor Eagle, for PPCs.) That being said, they have been compensated with excellent quirks in a number of their chassis; for PPCs, the TDR-9M really Stands Out.

Which mech to move to after playing Mad Dog variants for 90% of my matches? I'm thinking Timberwolf but suspect that will just feel more or less like the same thing but a little bigger. Currently have $18 million to spend.

It depends on what your future 'Mech should do.

The Madcat is a good choice. Keep in mind that TBR-S comes with a full set of jump jets, one of them is affixed to the centre torso. This can be advantageous or disadvantageous, depending on your intended build(s). So think twice before making your purchase.

It's a solid chassis in this game and absolutely iconic in Battletech in general. They generally are used as laserboats but you do have options for other weapons. There's also some heroes available for MC and a "booster pack" and Legendary in the store that you might be interested in, if you decide you like the chassis and want to buy something with real money. The Legendary is different in that it is actually not an omnimech like the others.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll definitely check out the store. I bought a BAS-PRIME but I already miss the mix of speed and firepower of those heavies. Will absolutely get a MC next.

TBR-BH. You don't get ECM on MDDs.

Do the trial mechs have skillpoints? Some of them work surprisingly well, so I wonder if they're already fully pimped, or if skilling them up will make them even better.

Does the missile spread skill in the skill tree effect streaks?

I think some have skill trees baked in. so some have skill trees i'm not sure if all do.

Two factors.

1) They use the skills:

Piranha Games Inc. said:

TRIAL 'MECHS
  • New (T)rial 'Mechs have a skill tree baked into the Quirks (not available for purchase)

2) They have better loadouts than the previous generation of Trial / Champion 'Mechs offered.

I see, thank you! Was wondering why they had to designate them (T) which means there is no way to automatically transfer the loadout after I purchase the same mech.

As I said, it was to differentiate them from those old Champion 'Mechs.

I'm pretty sure it was required in order to bake in the skills, they had to create a new mech variant with different quirks. So not to differentiate, just to provide a better and more complete experience to the trial mech pilots.

Unfortunately, this has come about a decade too late.

No, Streak SRM do not use the spread mechanic.

Just saw that Legendry mechs are available in the ingame shop for MC. If you buy there, does it give you access to the Battle pass or are they downgraded "ordinary" hero mechs then?

No-you only get the battlepass if you pay cash for them.

They are just like any other Hero 'Mech that you buy for MCs in the in-game Store - no extra stuff.

Question about MechDB: does this "Alphas to overheat" mean the number of alpha strikes, or total dmg before overheating?
