Armor distribution also depends on mech speed and your skill in twisting, turning and escaping while getting shot at PLUS the weapon loadout.
If you have a AC2, Gauss, ERLL or LRM build, you are much more prone to "stare" at your target. Either charge (Gauss), duration (ERLL and dakka from AC2) or the Lock from LRMs will keep you from twisting more, if you don't want to lose too much of you shots.

Thats why it's still very effective and very common to have alpha-strike builds where you can shoot once, twist away to protect your CT and then twist, aim and shoot again.

Most people usually run with 10 or less points in the back as you can soak more damage sacrificing your arms than to run away and getting shot in the back. :)

Finally have another question after all this time. Can an Omnipod from one mech variant be put on another variant of the mech? Like a Kit Fox S omnipod being put on a Kit Fox Prime?

Yes

Omnipods on clan mech are interchangeable with there only variants. In short kit foxes can swap omnipods

Yep, that's the whole purpose of the omnipods- all of the various Kit Fox right arms can be placed on the right arm kit fox Omni pod slot(and so on for al parts except for the CT). Some mechs even have extra pods such as the Kit Fox's right arm with the ECM, which you can place on any Kit Fox.

Any reason why PGI locks out each mech in a match until it finishes (I like to leave when I die)? If I only want to work on one mech at one time, that kinda stops me.

For a while we had a problem with suicide farmers - they would run out - do just enough that they "helped" then get themselves killed, earning themselves many "win" or "loss" cbill rewards in a few minutes using just one mech.

That does not cure it perfectly - but it slows it down greatly.
(To the point where it is almost always worth more - faster - to actually play)

Edit:
Nice sig, BTW :P

Edited Edit:
Once you have yourself set up well (IE: what mechs you want long term) several players have bought duplicate mechs (IE: several CN9-AL or BJ-1) so that they can sidestep that issue.

Doesn't help with my loss streak in a mech I am trying to level but oh well.

Yep I liked yours a lot so I hope you don't mind if I spread medium goodness. I have put many many hours into mediums that I have grown to love (YLW and TBT-7M are my favs).

I feel ya with that one, I usually try to work on several at once, but I have mechbays to spare.

So hard to pick a favorite though - that JOAT label applies in so many ways.

Edit: Pixel art for the sig came from here

I know Shar already answered your question, but keep an eye out to see if the mech you are wanting to level up is also a Triel mech. If so, you can get more XP by using it.

Also, if you want maximum rewards under the current situation, it's best to not leave as you may get more Assists. I usually Alt-Tab out unless there is a pilot I want to watch or if grouped with my BIA, in which I hang around to provide an extra set of eye...

What error are you getting? What name are you trying to use for your Unit? If you're trying to put together a unit with a lore-based name, you won't be able to. The lore-based names are reserved by PGI, and players don't get to use 'em.

It may also be that the unit name isn't taken but the tag is, IE we use DHB for our ingame tag, so a unit called Derpy Home Boys would have to find a new tag. ;)

A question that I've danced around for some time and would like a solid answer on:

Has it been stated if I, aligned to a faction and part of (but not grouped with) a unit can solo drop into a CW match.

Yes. Russ confirmed this over Twitter. Unit members can drop Solo, they just can't group up with members from other Units, even if both Units are aligned with the same Faction.

ER PPCs run really hot to begin with, then you combine that with 5 Med. Lasers, the mech is going to run pretty hot.

Nothing there would trigger Ghost Heat, it's just a really, REALLY hot build. The Smurfy Heat Efficiency is only 18% - I normally shoot for near 30%.

ER PPCs are just plain hot. ERML are fairly hot, but when you've got 5 of 'em that's quite a bit of heat, and those two SRM 6s are just going to pile it on even more.
