Yes to this one

Does the King Crab have a pretty good profile, or just a very wide torso?

Both?

The bounce has made it rather tricky to hit any particular point so far

Why would I ever troll Shar. ;)

I checked there was literally no Steiner in the LP Rewards table. https://static.mwome...ks_Rewards2.pdf

That's obviously not good.

Edit: Marik - Davion - Kurita - Liao - FRR- Jade Falcon - Smoke Jaguar - Wolf - Ghost Bear. No Steiner, but could be a copy/paste glitch as Liao has German ranks. -_- Hauptmann is a Steiner mech so assuming it's the same meaning Hauptmann is german for general.

Which means probably a copy/paste issue, not that they removed Steiner absolutely. That would be simply insane.

It would be!

Steiner has a reputation for paying more than anyone else!
Us Mercs are going to need them! :o
(Did not think you were trolling - but the question surprised me - as I had not seen the table)

If you look at the ranks listed for Liao, you will see they are the Steiner ones, so looks like a C/P error.

As to which one to start with, they are all pretty much the same rewards wise.

As to losing LP, they said early on the plan was that you would keep your rank (lose perks if implemented) and have to earn the points back, ie if you had SGT, then you would have to earn the LP for a promotion before getting more.

As to switching, it's like each faction will focus on it's historical enemy, so starting with Steiner is likely going to have you face off against Kurita and Marik. So plan accordingly. Say you want Mark and Kurita. Start with Marik so can attack Steiner and Liao, then switch to Kurita and focus on Steiner to preserve your rep with Davion. Then you could switch to Davion and hit Liao some more. Finally to FRR and beat up on Steiner some more. That would get you 4 out of 6 before you had to start digging yourself out of a deep hole. :)

Unless they throw out the historical enemy bit, or have "splash alignment" ie hurting Steiner causes a minor drop with Davion, and similar with the loose alliance of Kurita, Marik, and Liao. FRR I think was friendly with Steiner as it split from Kurita. But just speculation as we don't know for sure. Also forget exactly when Steiner broke up the FedCom alliance and went off on their own (the 2nd Katrina Steiner and all that).

Be a little difficult for them to hit Liao or Smoke Jaguar! :P

Yea is what I am thinking, but if they ignore the limitations of Jumpships, then could make it a real free for all. Plus would mean FRR could really only attack Kurita worlds, unless they throw out historical alliances (which I am afraid is what is going to happen..

Clans

They are going to have access to just about every Clan Border
(All of them if I remember right)

Edit:
For a while at least - the bulk of the "why did you join our faction" threads for the FRR had people listing first chance at fighting the Clans as their reason

Yea, I was focusing on the IS conflict. Of course historically they were wiped out almost immediately, so history will have to bend there a bit as well...course it may not really matter, as at minimum you will earn rep with them, and if no "splash" LPs, no need for allies...

Okay so a quick question. The King Crabs 'skills' do you only get the one KC and it unlocks all three tiers of skills, or do you get 3 variants? Or do you just get one, and there will be more variants later? I am thinking about getting a pack, but I want to know a bit about the skill gains.

All mechs require 3 variants to complete the skills. If you get a loyalty reward King Crab you get ONE, you still need 2 more. Buy them with MC or wait for their regular CB release in 2015.

Okay so which of the three King Crabs in the shop is the one we are getting as a reward? Or are we getting a 'special' variant not in the shop?

The loyalty King Crab is a King Crab 000(L) (L for Loyalty). It is statistically the same as a KGC-000 plus a permanent C-bill boost and custom paint pattern.

you will need to buy a KGC-0000(note this one is denoted with four 0s and the other one is with three) and a KGC-000B separately. All three of them have different hardpoints although almost identical stock loadouts.

Question:

What's the difference between a Champion Mech and a Hero Mech?

Thanks.

Champions are a upgraded version of a stock varient with a 30% XP earnings boost, you can build an identical Mech with cbills albeit without the xp boost, Champions are pay for conveniance and all Inner Sphere trial mechs are Champions.

Heroes are a unique varient with a custom paintjob and a 30% Cbill earnings boost, they have a unique hardpoint layout which you cannot get on that Mech otherwise.
Heroes range form the best varient (e.g FS9-E Ember, Firestarter, Hero Mech) to the Worst varient (e.g. AWS-PB, Prety Baby, Awesome Hero Mech), they are mostly an average varient with diferant hardpoints.

Essentially:

Champion 'Mechs are pimped-out versions of normal 'Mech variants, plus a 30% C-bill bonus XP bonus. You can build a Champion 'Mech by buying the chassis and parts yourself (although you miss out on the cash bonus).

Hero 'Mechs are unique variants that have unique names and weapon layouts, plus a 10% XP bonus 30% C-bill bonus (and a unique paint job). You generally can't build these 'Mechs yourself; for example, the Pirate's Bane is a special Locust with all of its hardpoints in the torso sections and it also has space for an ECM, which no other Locust can do.

Both of these are only available for MC, of course.

EDIT: Darn it, Ninja'd.

DOUBLE EDIT: In the interest of correcting facts, I got those the wrong way around. PLUS it's actually 30% for both. D'oh!

As below, it's C-bills for Hero 'Mechs and XP for Champion 'Mechs.

Other than the different loadouts, Champion 'mechs get an XP bonus (30% now I think?) Hero 'mechs get a bonus (also 30%).

Naturally, even though three people answer, the three answers are different.

The actual correct numbers for the bonuses are, unless they've changed recently:

Hero 'Mechs get 30% C-bill boost
Champion 'Mechs get 10% XP boost

From This Thread

[EDIT] Reno Blade below is correct, the XP boost is now 30%.
