Do SRMs register damage better if chain fired, or Alpha'd in a cloud?

it does not make much difference to them registering damage, but they will hit more effectively, and thus cause more damage, if chain fired.

With all missiles the more you fire at once the more they will spread out, so an SRM4 has a narrower spread than an SRM6, but 2 SRM6 fired at once will have the same spread as 3 SRM4, the 12 missile spread will be over a larger area so some of the missiles are likely to miss your target.

if I am mounting many missiles I will generally have them setup with a "fire all" and a "chain fire" group, fire all is for point blank use against big Mechs (when I cannot miss) Chain Fire is for use at a range of 100-200m, or against faster targets (e.g. Light Mechs)

Srm hit detection used to be bugged to where alpha firing many would cause problems with hit detection and damage but that was fixed.

How does targeting for air strikes and artillery strikes work? Does the beacon land where your mech is currently standing, or where it is aiming at?

It goes to the circle reticule. Not the cross. Arms. Not torso. Arms.

With artie and air strikes, make sure that you aren't too close to terrain or structures. This can interfere with the aiming and can actually cause you to drop an artie or airstrike almost on top of your head. (I know, I've done this once or twice.)

One thing you can do to avoid that is make sure you read your range finder properly. When your arm reticle is over your target, the range finder should read the same distance as what your target box is reading. (if the target is at 800 meters away, and your range finder is reading 35 meters. That means you're about to drop a strike on top of your head, due to an invisible wall blocking your aim.)

I think you now need to click on the "Store" link to purchase mechs

What are the best settings for the VOIP chat, if you are just using it for quick matches?

So new mechlab is cool. Where did the Mech Details button go though? Brought the full screen view up of all the components. Oh, and any reason why 1600x900 is required for using the expanded view? Game settings for me don't even go that high so I can only use the column mode... :(

Mech details is "automatic" now, in a way. Hit Select Mech in the top left corner either from the home screen or the mechlab, select any mech and it will display the information on the right. Doesn't show you what's been put where, but I guess they assumed people would jump onto the new expanded view, which is pretty similar to the smurfy mech builderPosted Image

you do not need to touch the VOIP settings, just hold down [Caps Lock] to talk in a match

Thanks. I appreciate it. I was hoping I just missed it or something. Oh well, back to using Smurfy's again. Unfortunately my monitors are not capable of 1600x900, so no new expanded view for me.

If I buy a mech on the store (e.g. Hero mech), and I lose a battle, is it destroyed and gone?

No. Soon as the match is over, your mech is restored to perfect condition, and to the configuration you had it set up with. This game has nothing that get perma destroyed. You don't even pay for repair or rearm.

And for the record, works same way with all mechs, not just Hero/Champions.

There is no way anyone can completely solve lag problems. That's going to happen over any kind of network. The more variables involved, the more complicated it is to deal with. HSR isn't perfect but it usually works ok.
